Does it say what he defines as bust?

just for funsies, I played against the 72 Dolphins, with my imported team, and beat them 52-10....so we can forget about them being undefeated, they got severely abused by a clearly superior modern team, and they aren't undefeated anymore

QUOTE (striker @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) If Hudson and/or Torres do well in spring, would you deal Floyd to open a spot for them, if it mean bringing back a stud hitter like Gonzalez or Fielder? Torres is not an MLB caliber starting pitcher. He could be a reliever, but that's about it. He's virtually a non-prospect. Hudson is a stud, but if Gonzalez or Fielder were made available, it would be now up until Spring Training started, or come June or July, and I doubt the Sox would want to deal Floyd midseason for a hitter. I think the Sox are virtually done making moves and will add one more hitter by the time Spring Training rolls around, along with some MLC types.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) The decision isn't gutless, but it is too pre-cautious for my taste. There are only a few teams who are lucky enough to make a run at a perfect season. In fact I would say that a perfect season is the single most important record that exists in the NFL. The NFL doesn't cherish stats and numbers the same way that MLB does, but the perfect season is really the only thing (maybe along with the single season td passing record) that fans and the league seem to cherish. I understand that going 16-0 doesn't mean anything if Peyton Manning blows out his knee and they lose their first playoff game, but I think there are certain (very few) situations where you assume that kind of risk. In my opinion, I would have kept my guys in and gone for history. There is something very special about going undefeated and if you can do it you enshrine your organization as the only team to ever go 19-0. That would have been worth it to me and I would have been upset if Lovie pulled Cutler in a similar situation (wouldn't that be a nice problem to have). That being said, I understand why Polian and Caldwell did what they did. They are completely fixated on winning the SB and they should be. They obviously don't share my opinion about the perfect season and if they win the superbowl the decision to pull the starters in game 15 will be a footnote. Oh well. Actually, if they do go 15-1 (and they should, considering the Bills are awful) and then win the Super Bowl, I think they'll be scrutinized more for pulling their starters in game 15 rather than it becoming a footnote with the thought being that they were basically one half of football away where they pulled their starters away from being a perfect 19-0. I don't think they'll get anywhere near the Super Bowl, but it's just my take on the whole matter. -
QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Thank you for the well wishes guys. I am thankful for my life after something like that. LMAO at Kyle. I went through so much trouble and money trying to get my car to pass the emissions so I can get my plates just to let it get crushed by a truck. Whadayagunnado. Get a new one I suppose

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) TO was dealt for a 2nd round pick, but at the same time, there were somewhat more complex issues. For example, he was attempting to be declared a free agent and was challenging things in court...beyond just the personality problems. Yes, he was eventually traded for a 5th rounder (to appease Baltimore) and Brandon Whiting (for some compensation to San Fran), and there were a ton of circumstances surrounding that anyways (specifically his agent not filing the papers to make him a free agent). I'm just stating, his value on the market to atleast one team was a 2nd round pick, and he was a fantastic receiver. The Bears are going to be very hard pressed to get that much value out of Devin Hester . -

QUOTE (T R U @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 02:44 AM) Aside from the fact that no one ever would give a 1st round pick for Hester at any point in his career, no one would offer a 1st and 4th for Hester AND Tillman.. You need to be a superstar player or be at a premium position like LT or QB to be traded for a 1st rounder.. its hard for some teams to move a star WR for a 1st round pick.. Terrell Owens, prior to the 2004 season, was initially dealt for a 2nd round pick, and TO was really f***ing good 5 years ago too. Hester is an explosive #2 receiver at best. He has no place as the #1 receiver on any team, and anybody willing to give up more than a 3rd round pick for him is crazy. -

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) We're not paying for him and our payroll would still under 120mil. The Sox payroll has never been above $110 mill. Why would they suddenly go close to $120 mill? QUOTE (striker @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) What would be considered acceptable? .800+? Atleast. You'd prefer better. .750 is league average. Scott Podsednik put up a .750 OPS, and I don't ever want to see him as the full-time DH, do you?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) My question in reply is...do we look at Vlad's numbers last year and think "This is vastly better than we'd get from Jones". I'm just not sure I do. Jones's numbers are only 10 points of OPS below Vlad. Played in less games due to injury, but he's also 2 years younger and hasn't spent time playing on the turf in Montreal The one thing I can see being a legit upgrade is a LH bat rather than a RH bat. Ozzie loves the platoon, we already know that, and there are guys on the market he can do that with. He can't do it with Vlad, and that really creates a RH heavy heart of the order unless Teahen steps up big time. Jones has also been playing in the majors just as long as Guerrero has, has played in more games, and even has more plate appearances than Guerrero does (though the difference between plate appearances is minimal). I don't always believe that age is the best indicator of when a player is breaking down because the amount of wear and tear on their bodies matters a lot too.

And then some dude named Johan. All they have to be hoping for is for one of those middle of the rotation starters to step up and have a big year while all the others remain around 4.50 or so. They've been interested in starting pitching all offseason though, so they might still add one.

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 04:26 AM) Right. That's why I don't want Thome back - his slugging pct. with the Dodgers was only .235 with an OPS of .471. So, he has no more power. Obviously, he wasn't comfortable with something over the last 6 weeks of the season with Detroit. Before that, he drove in 72 runs in 110 games with Baltimore. He's a career .282 hitter with a .340 OBP. I'm not saying Huff is Albert Pujols but I think he'd be a pretty good fit, of those left available, to help the White Sox win some games. He's more the type that Ozzie wants where he gives the team some flexibility and he can still move a little bit. We need a lefty hitter. Kenny has said that's what he wants. What's nice about Huff is that if Konerko went down early in the season for the year, he could play first rather than Kotsay being the regular there. And, if Teahen were to go down he could play 3B instead of making Vizquel a regular. He's not perfect but Delgado is injured. Thome they don't want because he offers no flexibilty. Vlad is right handed and health and mobility are questionable. Branyan might be ok but he's been a very inconsistent player over his career. Blaylock is always injured and his rep is borass. Who's left? Aubrey Huff has had exactly 1 good season in the past 5, with a couple others putting up relatively mediocre numbers for offensive positions and 2 of them being pretty bad. In the last 15 years, Jim Thome has had exactly 1 bad season. He isn't the .900 OPS threat he used to be, but he's still a solid .850, with an OPS close to .900 against righties. Ozzie still has the flexibility of his bench (for that matter, Thome would never have to be in the lineup against a lefty), the Sox get great left handed power, and Thome continues playing because I really don't think he'd go anywhere else.

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) It's a good argument in a year if Quentin struggles with injuries again and Carter has a solid major-league debut. Until then, it's a pretty silly question. And as far as whether it was a good trade, it's not just about "right now and in the future." Without that trade, we're almost certainly not 2008 AL Central champs. You can take the worst "almost" out of that final sentence.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) Bills getting Charlie Weis? There are worse choices out there. It would be better if it was as the OC, but Bills fans can only win small battles. What I would wonder beyond that would be if the Bills would keep the Cover 2 or if Weis would want to bring in Crennel and install a 3-4 defense, because that would fine by me and then Maybin may turn into a great pick as a rush linebacker. -

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Bill Polian Called Out by Colts Fans on Radio Show Yikes. That organization seems unable to address small but very important aspects of the team, notably special teams and public relations. -

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) - Okay. Please tell me his "one freak injury" has nothing to do with his history of injury with the D-Backs and since coming over from them. Quentin does not have a history of injuries with the DBacks. He had a surgery to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder (which does nothing to effect his throwing and only saps from his power when it's injured because he won't be able to follow through without being in pain) and that is it in regards to his injuries within the Diamondbacks system. He played 125 games in 2004, 136 games in 2005, 142 games in 2006, and 114 games in 2007 (the year of his surgery). That's 3 full seasons plus most of the 2007 season anyways. Since coming to Chicago, he's broken his wrist because he punched a bat or a locker or a wall or something (supposedly a bat, but who really knows?), and in 2009 he was injured because of plantar fasciitis. None of the injuries are related whatsoever. COULD contribute does not mean WILL contribute. And CONTRIBUTE just means he plays in the majors and puts up numbers. He could contribute in the form of a .725 OPS. That doesn't mean he's GOOD.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) I really like this idea. At his worst i see Kila projecting out to be a Nick Johnson-esque player, but i could honestly see him hitting about 25 homers a season with great OBP skills. I think Kila has a legitimate chance at making the team, or atleast he should. They've lost Shealy and Jacobs this offseason, so they're lacking 1B depth. Hopefully he gets a shot.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) I guess when Carter sees a couple of years in the majors, the trade can be evaluated better then. If he can produce the power numbers he's put up in the minors though, he could end up being a right handed poor man's Ryan Howard. As well as if Quentin can be consistent and not injury prone. Because it does make a difference what side of the plate he hits on, a poor man's right handed Ryan Howard is probably a .220-.250 hitter and more likely to be a platoon player than starter. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Differing opinions? You took a personal shot at me for making this poll when a legitimate question. Carter vs. Quentin is a good argument, IMO. I do not think it is a good argument at all. Quentin was on his way to an MVP in 2008 before he broke his wrist, and he still has that type of capability. Carter hasn't done anything above AA yet. The Sox are going to be competing next season, and Carter wouldn't do anything for them. In absolutely every aspect of the trade, Quentin helps the Sox more than Carter would.

TO with his 1000th career reception this past Sunday. I'm still hoping the Bills resign him. He's had a solid season with absolutely awful QBs, and I'm curious to see what he could do with a semi-legitimate quarterback (some type of stopgap while another QB develops). I doubt he will want to be back though. -

The Twins broadcast of that game was pretty golden too. As soon as Thomas made contact, Bremer said "and this game is over." Except that you couldn't really hear him over the crowd.
