Marlins will attempt to trade Jeremy Hermida
witesoxfan replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (striker62704 @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) I was thinking more in the lines of Fields or a talented unproven arm like Link or Nunez. They want the salary dump so as long as they get decent talent in return they would be happy. IMO Fields has proven he sucks and Link and Nunez are bullpen arms. They are going to command a good prospect or two for Hermida if they indeed move him. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) I still think leaving Lee in was the right move. I know scoring 6 runs in one inning is really tough to do, but with the way Lee was pitching, do you really wanna risk throwing Lidge out there? The odds of Lidge blowing it were minimal, but much better chance than of Lee doing it. Its the World Series, you manage to win that days game and worry about the rest later, and I doubt the difference between 105 & 122 pitches is gonna hurt Lee later in the series You never know. And I imagine throwing Park, Madson, or Lidge out there would be just fine. Lidge has been stellar in the postseason thus far, and gave up only 1 run in his last 4 appearances during the season. I have more confidence in the Phillies bullpen right now than the Yankees. I know you want the win and do whatever you can, but 6 runs is still a huge cushion, and you also have to look to atleast game 4 for Lee to pitch next, and potentially a game 7.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) Lee has been extremely durable throughout his career, so it shouldn't be a problem. He doesn't even ice his arm after games. That's wild. It is also worth noting that he never really labored or had a tough out the entire game. His mechanics have always been really fluid, and I am a believer that it is the tougher innings, where you end up throwing 30-40 pitches, are the innings you need to worry about more. You obviously don't want to leave a pitcher out for 130-150 pitches ever, but if you can average about 12-15 pitches or so an inning and never get into the 25-30 range, you should be all right in the long run. I'm guess I'm more upset about the fact that Lee was left in a game that was pretty much decided already.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) In fact, the Phillies offense may even be the more potent one in Yankee Stadium with that short porch in right (Rollins, Utley, Howard, Ibanez) Victorino has hit 3 homers this postseason as well, and I know Werth went oppo for atleast one of his homers. I think tonight could be a high scoring game. I'm still questioning leaving Lee in to close the game out, especially when they were up 4-0 after 8 and that turned into 6-0 after the top of the 9th. He threw 15-20 pitches in that last frame, and that just seems unnecessary to me when you want him to pitch 3 games in this series if he has to.

Something to consider on the potential trade front.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 01:50 AM) Dunn's career OPS is .903 which is a bit above your desired range. Thoughts? He is going to cost the Sox prospects. He is signed for one more year. He is going to make like $10-12 mill next year, which eats up any remaining resource the White Sox have to sign free agents. I'm going to pass on those alone, though may revisit come the winter of 2010. -
Greg Walker Admits Any Other Team Would Have Fired Him
witesoxfan replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
While it's true that people on Soxtalk could probably coach the Yankees to the playoffs, the Yankees also spend $200+ mill and have talent up the ass. There are middle of the pack teams every year that get to the playoffs though and the coaches in those spots do wonders for those teams. The Rockies this past year might not have won 80 games with Soxtalk managing them, and instead won 92. The White Sox in 2005 probably wouldn't have made the playoffs if not for the job Don Cooper did bringing that pitching staff back together, and I think you have to give some credit to Greg Walker for resurrecting the career of Jermaine Dye. The Sox offenses the past few years have been anywhere from inconsistent and mundane to inconsistent but explosive, and a lot of that has to do with Greg Walker. Like I said, I think Walker might be coaching his last year in Chicago, but he does serve a purpose and he has done a little good for the White Sox. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 29, 2009 -> 12:41 AM) I don't think the Sox will concentrate at all on acquiring a DH. Defense should be a key factor in any acquisition followed by salary . I see the Sox rotating the DH position among whoever fills out the 25 man roster. I've honestly never seen the benefit of that unless a team had a good enough bench that they were able to rotate guys in an out. I doubt that is the Sox bench this year. Having the DH actually be able to play a bit of defense, yes, I can see that, but if my choice is a guy that puts up an .800 OPS that can play a reasonable amount of defense at 1B, LF, and RF or a guy that can put up an .850 OPS and can't play a lick of defense, I'm taking the .850 every time. -
Sox need defense for serious run in 2010
witesoxfan replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The article mentions that bullpens are hit and miss from year to year - this is true - but defense is hit and miss from year to year too. Generally, the best will be better than the rest, but a guy like Polanco, even at 34 years of age, is going to start breaking down in the next few years and could become a rather mediocre shortstop. And on top of that, Getz is solid defensively and Nix's scouting report says that he is fantastic at 2B (and though I didn't see much, I did hear that there were some flashes of that this year). A lot of times defense has more to do with putting athletic players on the field and advanced scouting. You can put a world class sprinter in CF, but if he's out of position, he's almost never going to catch a ball. -

I think the bigger question in regards to dealing for Dunn involve what the Sox long-term plans would be with him. If you are only going to trade for his services for one year and then let him walk, you may as well just sign Thome on a 1-year stopgap and figure out what is available beyond that point. There is definitely a downgrade between the two, but it is not huge and Thome doesn't cost players and will cost less money. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) How is Sabathia not nearly as good as Lee? I'd like to hear this. Just this postseason. He's just seemed much more hittable overall, and looked worse tonight too (though he only gave up the 2 homers). The Yankees never really had a chance to score, and the Phils had atleast the one chance. And, though barely, the numbers do back it up. Sabathia has been fantastic and is a fantastic pitcher, I just think Lee is the superior pitcher at this point in time.
-
I know it's cool to get Lee a shutout, especially with how efficient he's been and how little he's labored, but don't you want to save his arm for game 4, even if he only goes out there and throws 10 pitches? Have Madson or Park go out, hell have Lidge go out there...I think any of those 3 can get you through the 9th without giving up 4 runs (and maybe 5 if Victorino can get Ruiz home here).
-
I think the Phillies are a bit underrated again. It's going to be interesting to see what Pedro does tomorrow, but with Cliff Lee on their side, and Sabathia quite honestly not nearly as good as Lee is, they have a chance to take all 3 of those. It's only one game, but the Phillies chances of winning got astronomically better (assuming whoever comes in to pitch the 9th can hold a 4-run lead).
-
The other side of that is that Marte got some great calls against Utley. I thought strike 1 was a ball, and strike 2 was clearly a ball.
-
That one, on the other hand, is gone in most parks.
-
haha suck it Yankees, can't happen two straight series
-
Rob a Candy Truck on Mafia Wars is the greatest job ever
-
Utley hits a flyball that's caught in about 28 other stadiums. 1-0 Phils.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) Why is everyone on TV acting like its a huge surprise that Cliff Lee is good? He won a f***ing Cy Young, of course he's good. because he plays for the Phillies and not the Yankees
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) Phillies miss a big opportunity there in the first against CC. And Lee looked really good in the first. He got really f***ing good.

Greg Walker Admits Any Other Team Would Have Fired Him
witesoxfan replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I imagine quite of these quotes are taken out of order, and that the firing quote came right in the middle of it. Not that it matters a ton, just that I imagine that's probably how it happened. And it is also Cowley trying to start s*** up. He likes doing that, even if this is newsworthy. I do think Walker has worn out his welcome, but he is going to be apart of the equation next year, and I do imagine he will be on the hot seat. -
sounds like Rachel Phelps

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) yeah but it does not matter if the other team fans like the idea . i mean Flowers and Hudson AND A FEW MORE GOOD PROSPECTS should get a deal done i know the padres want a catcher and are interested in flowers as he was part of the deal they wanted with Atlanta to get Peavy last year but Atlanta wouldn't put him in the deal . anyway i hope KW at leasts tries to make a deal for ADRIAN . Atlanta wouldn't deal Tommy Hanson. There's no reason they'd deal Tyler Flowers for Javier Vazquez but not Jake Peavy. -

The Bills Cover 2 has been decent this year, and they've been dealing with all kinds of injuries on defense. I don't think there is any chance the Cover 2 has been figured out, and I actually think it's going to be making a bit of a comeback in the next 5-10 years. -

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 06:59 AM) Yeah but it seems everytime you start a trade proposal with the opposing team's forum they wanna rape and plunder. I mentioned this very idea and they want Gordo right off the bat knowing he is as close to untouchable in the bigs as it gets. I mention Flowers/Huddie but get laughed at also. Just think he would fit in really well with his offense/defense, OBP, UZR, and HR/RBI all point to very productive years at the Cell. yeah of course they are going to ask for Beckham, the Padres almost certainly wouldn't even think of moving Gonzalez without Beckham being involved -
I talk to Jose Valentin quite a bit, and he just wanted to let everyone know that he really does in fact hate all of you.
