  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) I agree with KW. Get your ass in better shape. If he wants to last for a while he will. If he thinks he can get by not being in good shape, he will regret it years from now. What's troubling is Jenks' fighting the concern. Doesn't he want to be the best he can be? Lazy people don't generally change, and don't generally like to be told what to do.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) Now that this probably won't happen, what's next? This was probably never going to happen, it doesn't mean that talks are dead. If anything, that was proven with the Peavy trade. As a baseball fan in the offseason, all you can do is wait it out and see what happens.
  3. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) http://www.sporcle.com/games/DaCollins33/team_lofton Name the teams Kenny Lofton has played for. I got 9 out of 11. I did that one yesterday too. The only team I missed was his last new stop. I remembered one of yours because that deal netted Ryan Meaux, who was traded for Geoff Blum.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) UZR and a lot of people's eyes say that he had actually a decent defensive year there. Not a gold glove, but actually above average. That doesn't mean it's going to happen again next year. History suggests it won't.
  5. QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) I'm convinced the Teahen deal was predicated on this video http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/media/vide...tent_id=5456613 god thats awesome
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) hmm...not a bad thought. Or, we could just go after Jeter and move Lexi back to 2b. or move Jeter to 3B because he is not good defensively
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 05:24 PM) Anybody see what happened to Eric Wood? That was f***in' nasty. I could barely watch the replay. And I don't consider myself the squeamish type at all. http://www.rantrave.com/Rant/Eric-Wood-Inj...d-to-Watch.aspx yeah, that's nasty. That's exactly what the Bills needed, another season ending injury, and this one to a first round pick, no less. I just hope he can recover completely.
  8. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) What about a deal that would send Flowers, Jenks, Morel for Upton and Burrell, the Sox have to give up less in the way of prospects, take on some salary, and fill the DH and OF holes for next season. CF Upton SS Ramirez LF Quentin 1B Konerko C AJP 2B Beckham 3B Teahen DH Burrell RF Rios Bench De Aza Vizquel Blanco Kotsay Still a pretty right handed lineup, with a lot of money coming off the books after next season with Konerko and Burrell. First and foremost, Burrell and Rios would both be hitting higher in that lineup. It'd be more likely you'd see Beckham hitting 2nd, Burrell and Rios hitting 6th and 7th, with Ramirez and Teahen rounding out the lineup. Second, I still don't see a huge bat in that lineup. Surely both Upton and Burrell could get there, but they were far from it last season. Finally, I don't understand why Tampa makes that deal. There has been talk on here of them being interested in Jenks, but they have both Wheeler and Howell, who are more than capable of closing games down for them. Flowers would probably be an upgrade from Navarro, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see Navarro bounce back and put up another .750 OPS again either. Further, Morel is too far away and generally unproven as a prospect, and that still wouldn't be enough value for Upton alone. Finally, the Rays lose two big parts of their offense - again, even considering both were generally awful last season - and don't really get anything MLB ready back. That general deal just doesn't make a lot of sense.
  9. With three very small moves, Williams has upgraded both the White Sox infield offense and the defense off of the bench too, and it seems to me that they are looking much better all-around already. Teahen is an improvement over Getz/Nix offensively and if he can put up anything similar to either his 2009 or 2007 season, Sox fans should be happy. Now you bring in a player in Vizquel who is fundamentally fantastic, plays fantastic defense, and isn't going to embarrass himself as a hitter so long as it's off of the bench, and Kotsay is just fine off of the bench as a 1B/OF type, so long as he remains in the corner outfield spots and doesn't start too much. He can also pinch run for Konerko or whoever else late in games, and that may buy the Sox an extra couple runs throughout the entirety of a season. I have absolutely no problems with what Williams has done at all this offseason.
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) What if that conjuction included Lexi in a trade for AG? If the White Sox are going to trade a shortstop for Gonzalez, it's not going to be Ramirez. Even considering how much Ramirez means to the Sox, because they aren't going to find a SS who has near the capability of becoming a great player at the SS position at that price, Ramirez is older than Adrian Gonzalez. Why would the Padres have any real interest in Ramirez? I'm sure what the Sox were trying to do when they were going to trade Konerko to the Angels was to get Brandon Wood or a similar type of prospect who would interest the Padres. If the Sox offer Hudson, Flowers, Danks2, and Wood, there is a possibility the Padres bite at that offer.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) OMG, thats so Juan Uribe. Not only is he a little thick like Juan, but that HR swing was pure Uribe. I thought it looked a little like Craig Biggio too. Not that I think he is going to be as good as Biggio, just that the swing was pretty similar.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 01:28 AM) I never got much past buzzed tonight. I could have really gone for some awkward sex tonight, though. Awkward sex rocks your socks
  13. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) This is the lines for the rest of the White Sox prospects: Brent Morel: .435/.456/.565/1.020 with 4 BBs / 7 Ks in 62 ABs (4 XBHs: 2 2B, 2 HR) C.J. Retherford: .246/.333/.348/.681 with 7 BBs and 9 Ks in 69 ABs (4 XBHs: 2 3B, 1 HR) Dayan Viciedo: .333/.350/.556/.906 with 1 BB and 6 Ks in 18 ABs (2 XBHs: 1 2B, 1 HR) With a phenomenal closing rush, White Sox prospect Brent Morel ran away with the Arizona Fall League batting championship. The third baseman went 19-for-33 over his final eight games to close at .435 and beat Yankees farmhand Colin Curtis by 38 points. Morel did not join the league until Oct. 26 and did not accumulate enough plate appearances to qualify for the title until the final day. Source: http://soxbronzetitan.wordpress.com/ Danks in full... Jordan Danks: .343/.458/.505/.963 with 20 BBs / 26 Ks in 99 ABs (10 XBHs: 7 2B, 3 HR) The discipline is nice...the 4.57 K/PA or 3.81 K/AB is still quite rough, especially against minor league pitching in a hitter's league.
  14. In regards to Morel v Viciedo, it seems to me that Morel is comparable to Crede, and, crazy as it sounds, probably the more likely bet to make it as such in the majors, whereas Viciedo has Beltre-like potential. And both without the defense. Viciedo has the much higher upside, was adjusting to professional baseball in the majors (and for that matter much longer roadtrips), and was like 20 years old playing in AA. This is a big year for him, but I don't think by any stretch of the imagination it's a make or break year. I do think 2011 is make or break.
  15. All the Sox could get for Allen was Tony Pena. I did it in the Iwamura trade thread, but the Rays actually got back a worse reliever than Tony Pena, statistically, and Iwamura has proven a hell of a lot more than Brandon Allen. That is just the going rate for cheap and under control relievers who are in their prime age years.
  16. Oh, and a meeting with Shanahan next week. That works for me.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 01:45 AM) The Packers released him and no one else picked him up until now? He was on the Packers practice squad, and that's where the Bills signed him from.
  18. QUOTE (qwerty @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 01:11 AM) Truly it should be like that every day, but even better. We could do without the little old lady bickering (snark like comments) that goes on, which is the first thing someone resorts to when they don't know what else to say. Such a thing is truly what keeps me away for extended periods of time. I wish i was posting 20 plus times a day, rather than the 20 per month, if that. I always hope for the best, so maybe the tides shall turn this off-season. I was going to throw in a snarky, cheap comment in here just for fun, but I can't even do it. This thread is too money right now.
  19. The Bills signed Brian "The Bomb" Brahm. Print the 2010-11 Super Bowl tickets.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 08:12 PM) I think Wite just means he's our 4th best pitcher. Anyways, to start the season it'll probably be: Buehrle, Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Garcia in that order anyways. Precisely, and that's not a knock against Floyd, because Floyd is damn fine pitcher himself.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) Not if you look at the big picture. Floewers is not needed at DH as we have other possible options who are better suited for that job. Flowers needs to learn to catch and step in when AJ is gone and you don't do that in the DH spot Flowers may inevitably be the best option for the Sox. That's all I'm saying, and if that's how Kenny and Ozzie feel, that's how it's gonna happen.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 06:34 PM) Someone after my economic heart... it's what I do
  23. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) In a seven game series that restaurant would be outstanding though. Wait wah I think in our heart of hearts we know that Mark/Floyd/Danks isnt striking fear into another team come playoff time. Solid but I think we'd still be the underdog against whatever other divisional champ we'd face. In game 163, Joe Mauer, who had locked up the AL batting title, bunted against John Danks because he couldn't hit him. Mark Buehrle has thrown two no-hitters, has pitched in the postseason, and has pitched well in the postseason. Floyd is the #4 starting pitcher. It doesn't matter if they "strike fear" - if you put lion on the mound, it's going to strike fear in the opponent. What I want on the mound in the playoffs is a guy that is going to pitch well and give the team a chance to win.
