  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 01:29 AM) This will go down as KW's worst deal ever simply because Pena is so bad and Allen actually has an upside. You have apparently not watched Pena pitch. Good stuff. Very little control of it. Pena has a very high upside as a reliever; any pitcher that cannot control what he throws will get lit up. Almost all of September with Coop, an offseason resting, and a Spring Training with Coop may do wonders for him. He might also fail miserably. Brandon Allen might not turn into anything more than a .750 1Bman, which can be found around pretty much any street corner. He might also turn into a Prince Fielder type of hitter. No one knows yet on that front either.
  2. QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:21 AM) rockie biddle fits in here somewhere Rocky Biddle was never a good reliever. He fits into best facial hair bullpen, along with Koch, Hermanson, and Jenks.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 10:56 PM) hahaha Those morons on ESPN compared Brandon Allen to Ryan Howard. All I can say is "wow". That's a very forgiving comparison. to be fair, when Howard was in AA and AAA, when he was a year older than Brandon Allen, he only hit 46 homers.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) And they don't know what's coming when he's out at WR? And when you stop suddenly paying attention to him, they'll run a play either to him or through him.
  5. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) What the hell is Ozzie's problem???? WE ARE OUT OF IT. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Is he seriously supposed to say to the new guys "hey, season's over, your f***ed"? Get f***ing real.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) I don't know why you'd actually want the QB on the field for that formation 1/2 the time unless you're planning on giving him the ball as a passer. Isn't the whole idea that you go from playing 10 on 11 to playing 11 on 11? QB is a decoy. If he leaves the field of play, teams know what is coming. Thus, he has to line up.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) Never a true Sox (same with Guerrier), but we traded FF for Everett the first time around. Guerrier was originally drafted by the White Sox. I'd say he was a true Sox. Never pitched in the majors, but he was traded for Damaso Marte, so I'd say it worked out for the Sox just fine.
  8. QUOTE (SockMe @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) I wish I could be that positive at this point I don't know how that's being really that positive
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) Any chance the trades somehow spark this team to go on a tear? crazier s***'s happened. That'd be right up there with the craziest of the crazy, but it's not THE craziest. I'd rate Seattle in 95 and Colorado in 07 as crazier.
  10. I don't see how the Sox can spend any more than $95-100 mill next year.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) And you'd be a horrendous general manager. You can disagree with that all you want, but I know it. The Sox wouldn't have even been in the race had Thome not been in the fold. That team damn near scored 900 runs, and that was with a piss poor second half.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) It's about time Wise is back. Anyone else notice that once he went down the team tanked? People think the White Sox lost their left handed power by dealing Thome. I say it just came back up.
  13. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Slug-ball is when you sit back and wait for the 3 run homer. That is this team. In 2005, yeah we could mash, but we could also manufacture runs. Every year I can remember before and after 2005, he lived and died by the homer. Not in 2005 though, we won with pitching, defense, timely hitting etc. Thome is none of those things. No, that team scored most of its runs on home runs. The fact of the matter was that they could pitch too, and they threw the s*** out of the ball. 4 starters with an ERA below 4, 3 dominant relievers and that bullpen never went through a bad stretch, and only used 6 starters all season. The pitching and defense won that World Series, and it had little to do with their ability to manufacture runs. The team was more fundamentally sound, and could manufacture a run, but that is an offense I never want the Sox to be apart of again, as it was the 2nd worst offense of the decade. What I would like to see, and what Williams is trying to duplicate, is putting together a starting pitching staff similar to that in ability. He's done exactly that with Peavy-Buehrle-Floyd-Danks, in whatever order you want. The fact that Dan Hudson is in AAA only helps that rotation.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) Dye DHing now, or Quentin? why not just Flower and AJ? When Flowers comes up, they're going to have to see what he can bring to the table.
  15. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) What if he got Abreau.. Quentin/Rios/Abreau Pods DH. Doesn't sound like a fail to me. If you move Konerko there's plenty of good hitting 1b out there. I still think bringing Thome back on a one or two year deal makes the most sense.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) You don’t have to be a professional out to see that lefty-hitting 1st basemen who has hit well in the minors should be valued over a relief pitcher. And if Brandon Allen puts up .260/.330/.470 and Tony Pena puts up 2.50 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and pitches 75 innings, who is more valuable?
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Oh. So here's where this thread went. I thought I was getting prepped for banishment. nope, just talking bout poop
  18. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) balls. OK, blame me. ASSHOLE THANKS FOR MAKING THE WHITE SOX LOSE
  19. QUOTE (IITsox @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 02:39 PM) David Aardsma Mike MacDougal Nick Masset Javier Vazquez 3 of the 4 are pitching in the NL. That doesnt count. And MacDougal isn't really having a good season with the Nationals, seeing how his K/9 is 4.82 and his BB/9 is 4.82. If anything, it means he's been lucky as hell and he's bound to come back down soon enough. Aardsma has been solid as hell, and I never wanted to give him up. FWIW. To get back to the topic, Clint Barmes has 21 homers. He's not having a good year, I just thought it was crazy that Clint Barmes has 21 homers.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) QB: Hasselbeck, Mark Sanchez RB: LT, Ray Rice, Mendenhall, Cadillac Williams WR: Andre Johnson, Bowe, Josh Morgan, Bess, Manningham TE: Olsen, Keller K: Josh Brown DEF: Cowboys, Texans Keep in mind it's a 16 team league. Thoughts? solid depth at RB, but no solid 2nd starter. I love the thought process, but don't like how it went about (draft 2nd running backs based on potential to start). Rice is likely to start, but McClain and McGahee propose too many problems. Mendenhall may flat out not be good enough and, unless Willie is healthy, he's a f***ing stud. And, even with any talent around, Cadillac Williams may not get enough carries, especially consider the injuries he's had. Stay away. Wideout is good, because Johnson is yayaya, and Bowe is going to get numbers. Morgan is a solid backup if something goes wrong, you have another #2 in Bess, and Manningingham is a solid choice, though perhaps not my favorite. If you have a feeling, go with it. Don't like Cowboys defense, but you have a good team otherwise. Just go with it till about week 4-5...thats when most changes should be noticed and made. I would, at the very least, look for a better backup running back. Don't drop Rice, as he may help, but the other two are irrelevant at this point, as far as (my drunk ass) is concerned. Do drop Caddy. Too many injuries, too s***ty a team. I'd be surprised if he gets 500 yards this year.
  21. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) I don't what people want the sox to do for Crede. We can't have a statue for every decent player we ever have. Chris Widger on the other hand should be given the key to the city. I firmly believe Timo needs something too.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) That would be funny if we fell behind Cleveland. We truly are a team that has tanked. I don't think it'd be that funny.
