  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) We really need Brandon Allen to change his initials. what's really odd is that's the first thing I thought of when I saw his post too
  2. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) I was going to do the research, but you hit it right on the head. I'll also say he's only worth that if he's pitching half his games at PetCo. since 2004 on the road 427 IP, 3.31 ERA not nearly as bad as some might think, though certainly a bit overrated
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) Sarah Silverman is the stupidest comedian this side of Tim and Eric. I happen to like Tim and Eric, thank you. You just have to check in your maturity card at the door.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) The Javy of the last month? I find that hard to believe. Is the NL as bad as the minor leagues now? He was horrific. #2 is probably an overstatement, but at the same time, perhaps not for the Brewers. Still, aside from his last 4 outings (not that they don't mean anything, because they severely damage his year long ERA, even though the one in the playoffs obviously doesn't count towards his season ERA), he was a pretty damn solid starter all season long. If a team finds good value in that, then they very well may trade for him.
  5. QUOTE (Shadows @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 05:21 PM) Point is Buffalo isn't that good, but at least you aren't being as ridiculous as brian is I think they're a good team, I just think the loss of Brady makes the AFC East and quite frankly the AFC in general that much weaker. As far as I'm concerned, the AFC is wide the f*** open right now and there are only about 3-4 teams you can truly count out right now, those being Oakland, KC, and Cinci as the guarantees and probably Miami too though any team with Parcells in the organization has a chance. There are any number of teams that, if they get hot or get cold, could ride it to a playoff spot or golf reservation.
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 03:46 PM) Can't tell you how many times on an expressway I change lanes to go around someone and they speed up. It's my second biggest pet peeve ever. My biggest pet peeve is when someone passes you going about 85, pulls into your lane, and then slows down to about 77 (with 75 MPH speed limits and me driving my usual 80 MPH). If it's on the interstate and I am in the clear, I usually pull into the passing lane, floor it until I get to about 94 MPH, and simply let it coast back down to cruise control. I'll be a good half mile ahead of the asshole at that point and hopefully without flashing lights behind me.
  7. Josh Bard has thrown out around 12% of potential base stealers in the past 3 years.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) I can never predict accurately what Brian Sabean is thinking, but the last thing his organization needs is aging sluggers. The only bats they may be interested in other then the Q, Missile, Swish variety would be a package of people like Anderson, Allen, Shelby, Retherford, Gartrell and Cook . if he could get them for very little, absolutely he would
  9. I heard some stud on here interviewed him.
  10. QUOTE (Shadows @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) Why because they beat San Diego? So what even Miami beat San Diego.. Dont look now, but the Brady-less Pats are only a game behind And the Bills schedule has probably been harder than the Patriots has thus far. What's your point?
  11. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) http://www.theonion.com/content/node/50818 a better article about brett myers. The wife incident was over 2 years ago, and his incident with the reporter i could care less about. Reporters are jackasses and need to be told off every now and then. (brett never attempted to spell retard, although i wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't.) If johnny uribe can shoot people, i'll let brett throw a few punches and say a few mean words. You do realize that's from The Onion, right?
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 02:43 AM) I'd probably take Garland. If his shoulder is true and he can give me 3 years with a 105 ERA+ and 200+ innings then he's worth $8M dollars. If Poreda wasn't ready in September then he's not going to be ready in March, I don't think the Sox have much interest in Garcia (they didn't even go to his tryout last year and made no attempt to sign him) and even if they do, I don't (can't stand watching that man pitch), I want no part of Richard in the rotation he should be the #1 lefty specialist out of the pen next year and I don't think Egbert will be a member of the organization come April. As for my mother she has a nasty slider but her fastball tops out at 38 MPH and I'm not sure she could even get the ball to the plate on a fly so I'm gonna have to rule her out as well. Fair enough. You know, if Jericho Scott and your mother combined their abilities, he'd be too good for a 12 year old league. Personally, even if Garland came that cheaply - I don't think he will just because of the demand of starting pitchers and he's not coming off a 6+ ERA but rather just slightly under 5 - I don't think the Sox would be interested. Williams nearly traded him once when he was young, supposedly nearly traded him to Houston, and then did finally trade him to Anaheim. Perhaps that was just KW feeling the waters, especially the time to Houston, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of organizational love for Garland. Of course, if Garland did come that cheaply, and he checked out physically, and the Sox signed him, I really have to believe Javy would be on his way out, regardless of who is better.
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 01:42 AM) I just love this stat. Last year 48 major league pitchers threw at least 190 innings, of them, Jon Garland was the worst (according to VORP). 67 pitchers threw at least 175 innings, Garland was the 7th worst out of the group, the 6 pitchers behind him: Zach Duke, Daniel Cabrera, Tim Redding, Jeff Suppan, Barry Zito and Brian Bannister. That being said, if he were somehow interested I'd still give Garland a Jason Marquis type deal (assuming he's healthy, if that shoulder is f***ed I'm not interested); 3 years, $21M-$24M with incentives for All Star appearances, Cy Young voting and ~210 IP that could raise the deal to say $30M. Would you rather give Garland $7.5 mill a year over 3 years or try your luck with a combination of Garcia, Richard, Egbert, Poreda, YourMother, etc, while paying less than $5 mill and being locked into no long-term committment?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 12:33 AM) We ain't gonna make the playoffs without upgrading the starting rotation as well as the pen. I want Jon. In all honesty, Jack Egbert or Clayton Richard might be upgrades over Jon Garland, and they won't require a multi-year deal.
  15. I haven't been actually keeping track, but I'm pretty sure I have not used a razor in any form in about a month. I also don't grow facial hair well, if you haven't figured that out by now. I'm feeling pretty super.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 11:57 PM) I don't. I'm just saying many teams don't care about that. They just sign the guy. Garland is a FA??? What the frick. SIGN HIM. We need him back. He's the inning eater. I want Jon. Garland was one of the worst starting pitchers in the AL last year and he has a ton of mileage on his arm. He should not be brought back.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 11:29 PM) As has been discussed it's a pipe dream and is indeed, highly unlikely to ever occur. That being said, a package of Anderson, Allen, Shelby, Broadway, McCullough and a few other pieces (We're talking high upside bats, with maybe a Logan and a Egbert thrown in) would potentially sway the Giants as long as there was agreement that the Sox inherit a good portion of Zito's salary if not all of it. This is predicated on the Giants need for Lincecum being seemingly lessened by the emergence of Alderson and Bumgardener in their Minor League system, as well as the continued successes of Sanchez and Cain. Now, with Coopers recent successes, as well as some slight improvements shown my Zito in the second half it seems possible for his career to be somewhat revived in Chicago. As you saw, he was penciled in as the 5th starter in the rotation. Despite being a ludicrously wonderful thought, it's also highly unrealistic. So yes, I still stick to the idea that we'll be seeing the standard Buehrle, Vasquez, Danks, Floyd, insert FA starter here scenario. The Sox don't have the pieces to reasonably make a deal for someone like Lincecum. The names you mentioned would have absolutely no value to the Giants in such a trade; they'd be interested in them just because they could use talent in their system, but the most you'd get is probably someone like Fred Lewis or Randy Winn, and even that's pretty damn unlikely. On top of that, McCulloch has literally no value unless some team wants to take a chance on him - a 4.65 ERA in a pitcher's park at AA...yeah no. It's interesting to think of a Cain/Lincecum and Zito type deal, but I wouldn't put any real thought into it.
  18. The Bills are good, but the season isn't even half over yet. Minnesota started out 6-0 a few years back and finished the season 2-8 to end it at .500. I doubt the Bills will play that poorly, but it's still young and they are still a young team. Tennessee looks much scarier than Buffalo does at this point.
  19. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) Vasquez is a good pitcher, but after ozzie told him he has no juevos/marbles, I just don't see him sticking around. Ozzie has no control over where Javy goes though. KW has to be on the same page.
  20. There's no way they'd do Lincecum even with potential injury concerns, but I'm curious as to whether they'd consider giving up Cain. Not that I want the Sox even thinking about that, just that they'd almost certainly rather do Cain than Lince.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) Buehrle got one? That's the exception more than the rule, and his was 4 years - they didn't buck the trend too badly.
  22. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 01:06 PM) pitching staff Hamels>Kazmir Myers Moyer Blanton Lidge>whoever the Rays have closing Phils middle relief And I say Rays in 6 The Phillies bullpen has been quite a bit better than the Rays has, though I do agree that with the analysis of the starting pitching.
  23. who did they send to Pittsburgh for Franklyn German?
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) Have either of those two won a World Series? I was originally going to root for the Rays (to have another team win it all before the Cubs), but it'd be hard to root against two guys that have been around that long. The Phillies won in 1980 with Pete Rose on the team. So go Rays, though I'll be happy regardless of which team wins it. There are a lot of likable guys on both teams and I actually like both teams too. Once Boston was eliminated, I knew I would be happy.
  25. so I guess I missed out on the fact that Tony Gonzalez is a dick. He wanted to be traded, and the Bills offered a 3rd and some, and he turned it down. So basically, the Chiefs complied with his wishes and he would rather be stuck in misery than having a chance to win...because Buffalo is a small market (like KC's much bigger). Tony Gonzalez can suck a fat one.
