  1. If you think Williams only has the pieces for one big deal, you are sorely mistaken.
  2. Toby Hall hit .377 against lefties this year. Not advocating bringing him back, just throwing it out there. Also, though it's probably an impossibility, but if the Sox could find a way to carry 11 pitchers next year, I wouldn't be opposed to using 3 catchers, or atleast having a guy on the bench who has the ability to catch while playing other positions as well.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) It's actually more like a 74% chance but the bad Dotel is so bad that it seems like he shows up more often than 26% of the time. That's because bad Dotel likes to leave fastballs up and out over the plate all the time.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Yeah, it's really easy to dvr something, believe it or not, you don't even have to make it a big deal! That's what I've been doing this year. All you have to do is select the show you want, and push the record button. I know you can do it, Wite. I have to do it on someone else's TV though...I has no cable in room.
  5. QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) I'm just very, very bored with the Cubs/Sox thing. I think the Internet is the main reason why. IN MYYYYYYY DAAAAYYYYYYY, it used to be that a few Sox fans gave s*** to the few Cubs fans they knew, and vice versa. The whole micro-analysis of how many column inches go to each team, how many minutes of TV time go to each team on the nightly sportscasts, etc, also adds to my fatigue over the whole thing. Plus, it's just so pervasive on any message boards, I've just reached overload. And Sox fans really shouldn't be too happy that their team won ONE WHOLE playoff game rather than zero. It's not that great a thing. I think there's some satisfaction from Sox fans. They weren't supposed to be competitive this season, whereas the Cubs were. The Sox struggled to a division title but ultimately won it by beating the team who swept them less than a week earlier, winning 3 straight games against 3 different teams to get in, while the Cubs coasted to a division title. And the Sox have won a World Series within the past 4 years, let alone 100. Sox fans seem generally satisfied with the season the Sox had; the Cubs should have nothing but massive disappointment.
  6. If I weren't busy getting hammered every Saturday night of the year, I would actually take the time out to watch it. I might have to start DVRing it so I can watch it later.
  7. QUOTE (BearSox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 06:17 AM) If I had to say who was going to regress next year, I'd tell you Jermaine Dye, but we have already begun to see his regression since 06. uh... 05 - .845 OPS 06 - 1.007 OPS 07 - .803 OPS 08 - .885 OPS /scratches head
  8. Batting him leadoff also gets him the most at bats out of anyone on the club. If they are the best hitter, it makes sense to me, because they can do things that a leadoff hitter does but they'll also be able to drive in runs too.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 06:55 AM) Furcal is likely going to be too expensive for the Sox to consider and will probably re-up with the Dodgers if he plays well through the playoffs. Hudson might come at a discount due to his recent streak of injuries, but the Diamondbacks have cleared out all the other 2B in their system so they will likely try hard to get him to return. There are some guys out there that we could take a look at, but not really high end guys. Joaquin Arias from Texas is a player who is blocked can play both middle IF posisitons and has speed. He is young and cheap and could probably be had for some of the pitchers that do not figure into the picture for next year. Also you could trade Fields and a 1B either Swish or Kong, if he would accept it, to the Giants for Velez, Lewis, and a P. The quality of the P will depend on which guy goes there in the trade obviously. Doing that allows KW to go out and spend money for a 3B. I have pretty much assumed that Javy will be traded this winter mostly due to his contract status. Somewhere like Atlanta, Cincinatti, or Milwaukee would proably make sense for him. Not sure how well any of those teams match up as trade partners so its possible if he is traded it is in a three way move, because one thing is for certain, Kenny does not trade for prospects that do not have a shot at making the club in the next season. Arias is overrated. He was supposed to be a top prospect coming up through the Rangers system, but he was terrible as a 21 year old in AAA (understandable) but really never did anything offensively to receive those promotions. He also missed most of 2007 and put up a .750 OPS this past season in AAA as a 23 year old in the PCL. He's got limited power (if that) and he doesn't draw walks. He doesn't excite me. I also don't know why you'd trade Konerko (who wouldn't accept a trade to San Francisco in the first place) and have Eugenio Velez be one of the main pieces back, let alone including Fields in the deal. I also don't see why San Francisco would make that deal in the first place...yeah Brian Sabean is the GM, but they are in a clear rebuilding mode, and while they'll probably sign a free agent or two, I can't expect them to trade one of their good young players in Fred Lewis for a player who has seemingly become a non-prospect or either Swisher or Konerko who had down years. In fact, Lewis had a higher OPS+ than both Konerko and Swisher. That makes no sense really at all.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) I bet he goes with Marshall and Hoffpauir for Brian Roberts Why can't the Sox top that?

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) $1 at a couple of the bars. And I was carded. I looked at the guy and basically gave him a WTF? You are kidding right. And sire enough he wanted my id. You tell me the bars and I'll blackout within seconds. I can usually handle myself pretty well, but $1 Jagbombs is fracking ridiculous.
  12. QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) Yeah his shows are great.I have his new series Feasting on Waves on the DVR but have yet to watch it.His other series he had when he went out on the road was a good watch so Iam guessing this one will be interesting also. I honestly don't know what I'd do without Alton Brown.
  13. Leverage spots merely have to do with the importance of the situation. It takes into consideration things such as what inning it is, how close the score is, and how many runners are on base (as far as I'm aware...there may be more or less to it than that though). I also wouldn't view Villanueva as a starting pitcher. As a starter, he got absolutely crushed this past season - 6.43 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, and more than 2 homers allowed per 9. As a reliever, his ERA was 2.12, WHIP of 1.04, K/9 of better than 9, and fewer hits than innings pitched. He seems like a perfect 7th inning filler for the Sox, and I really wonder if Milwaukee isn't considering using him as a closer next year.
  14. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) What's with all this level-headedness and calm discussion. What has SoxTalk come to?? CHICAGO WHITE SOX 2009!!! I'm voting for them
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) They're annoying but I think Joe Crede's popups annoy me a bit more than PK's. After all only 42% of Konerko's contact outs last year came via the flyout, compare that to Crede's 63% and Pauly's lookin' pretty good. YEAH WELL ATLEAST CREDE IS ON THE BANNER
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 12:02 AM) Dotel, Vasquez are also big possibilities to end up there, you might have enough MLB talent to get Hardy, and enough to go after a Roberts with prospects then... I actually would see Dotel going to Milwaukee in a deal. Short-term, good arm, good pitcher when he's on. Something like Vazquez, Dotel, Anderson for Hardy and Villanueva. Milwaukee would atleast have to consider it...they're adding about $15 mill in such a deal, but they have an absolute ton coming off the books. It would also free up money for the Sox to either take on a contract or splurge a bit in free agency. I'm actually not afraid of Hardy at all. He's just developed as a hitter is really all. It takes some guys a couple years. What's also really good to see with Hardy is that the past two seasons he's been an absolute stud in clutch situations. Most of his RISP, runners on, and high and medium leverage stats are good. He's actually a fantastic hitter in medium leverage spots. That's fine and dandy, but everyone always thinks the Rays will make Figgins available and I just don't necessarily understand why. I also think Roberts is going to be very expensive to trade for but I see the Sox in the race the whole time unless they strike a deal with someone of similar caliber before that. I'm also a bit scared of McLouth, though I do think he'd be fine; regardless, I don't think that has to be dealt with. It was stated on rotoworld a couple of days ago that the Pirates would only deal McLouth if someone wanted to overpay for him.
  17. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) If I'm going to read into anything, that would tell me the Sox knew that had a weakness in speed, had that asset in AAA, and still decided not to bring him up. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for Owens. I'd agree completely with this.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:50 PM) I don't know. I always kind of liked AJ. From reading all the articles, it's apparent Swish will be back especially since he's affordable. I don't wish ill will on him. I hope he bounces back. I just never thought he was worthy of the manlove on here especially during the period Paulie was sucking and got roasted. If I had my way though, KW would move on and dump him and try again in the continuing quest to find a replacement for Rowand. In my mind, Swish and AJ are in the same boat. Swisher needs to hit better than he did last year, but it seems that by most accounts he was pretty damn unlucky last year and he should improve next year. He seems to be a well liked guy in the clubhouse and there's a ton of potential for him to improve his stock dramatically. He needs to work with Walker or someone though to quicken his swing a bit, because with how long it is, he's never going to be much more than a .240 hitter. QUOTE (logic101 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) I'm not really disagreeing with you. Javy is way better than Suppan, no matter how down on him the fans (and Ozzie) are at the moment. And it makes sense to try to move him to Milwaukee. But Suppan and his over priced contract would seem to prevent them from adding Vazquez. And they are sure as hell not going to give up one of their top trading chips to get him. There's a chance Cameron will not be renewed. His numbers were very close this year to Tori Hunters. Should Kenny be interrested? The Brewers are dropping quite a bit of salary in losing Sabathia and probably Sheets; they also have quite a few expiring contracts in their bullpen. They'll have more than enough money to get Vazquez and they could and probably should be quite interested in him should the Sox make him available. And no, the Sox shouldn't make a play for Cameron unless it's late in the offseason. He's a decent player but there's enough in-house options and several other choices that would make him a mediocre choice at the moment.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Cause Swish has been given a free pass by many for this season for some reason. They say he'll be fine next year when he's set in a regular position. Whatever. I'd cut my losses and dump him for your proverbial bag of balls. Try it again, KW. AJ Pierzynski was pretty mediocre his first and third years in Chicago...why didn't you want to dump him then?
  20. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) If it makes your team better, then you should make the deal. Baseball is such a mystery sport, just look at the Tigers, that you jsut need to worry about yourself. Make the best trade that you feel helps your team compete. I would love to have Garza come this way, but I dont think Dye would be enough for him, maybe a mid prospect to go along. I'd agree, it's just a matter of how you do it to get the guys you want. Shelby or Allen would be guys they would consider, but if you would trade for Beltre or Hardy, you'd have to have enough ammo to get them as well, and the Sox don't have much of it as is. Right now though I'd say that I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Brian Anderson ended up in Milwaukee.
  21. The playoffs aren't even over. He's just f***ing around right now.
  22. QUOTE (MAX @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) I guess its the fact that they just beat us out of the playoffs that makes me think a deal is unlikely, but I'll probably be wrong about that too. At this point, everything is conjecture, so nothing should be taken too seriously.
  23. QUOTE (logic101 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Suppan is a bad contract that I'm pretty sure the Brewers would love to unload. Hall is in that catagory as well. When you're thinking of unloading bad contracts and failed prospects - like Javy and Josh Fields - that's pretty much what you can expect to be offered in return. For Hardy they'd want Danks. Except that Javier Vazquez is a far superior pitcher to Jeff Suppan. If you don't believe me, compare their numbers over the past 2-3 seasons, compare what leagues they have pitched in, and consider that Suppan makes almost the exact same salary as Vazquez. As it is, they need arms pretty badly. Unless Sheets resigns, Suppan will have more value to the Brewers than he will the rest of the league.
  24. I do believe that if Uribe is not brought back that Getz will be the primary backup in the infield. Even so, I could see Getz playing his way onto the roster if there is another player on the bench or in the field that can play 1B (so Swisher, but another would be OK too).
  25. I'm in a bit of a crunch, and I haven't paid enough attention to the Filibuster to figure out where the catch-all went so I threw it in here. I'm looking for a speech McCain made on March 25, 2008 entitled "John McCain's Remarks on Economic Woes"...you can find the speech in text at realclearpolitics.com...anyways, I've obviously got the article, but I'd like to find the video of the speech if possible. If you know where it is, I'll cuddle with you for a night instead of Heads.
