  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) He hasn't pitched much in games...it must have simply been a matter of him working with Cooper and the team deciding based on that advice that they were better off with the kid. Can Russell pitch more than 1 inning if needed? Anyone know? He's averaging more than 1.1 IP per appearance in AAA this season and he used to be a starter, so I'd say the answer'd be "yeah"
  2. There are some absolute gems in this thread. I kinda figured I'd come on the board and see people looking over the cliff. My favorite is how 3 games could cost the Sox the season. The Tigers won 4 of 5 games in the 3rd week of April, 4 in a row in the 4th week of April, and 8 of 10 from April 21st to May 1st, including a sweep of the Yankees IN NEW YORK. They were just waking up, right? Right - they've gone 15-22 since that time period, which is a 96 loss pace, which includes the sweep of the White Sox (meaning before this series, they'd lost 22 of 34); currently, they are on a 91 loss pace even after their series with the Sox. Do I think they could get hot and win like 20 of 23? Absolutely...their offense is still one of the best in the AL. It doesn't change the fact that it's just not goddamn likely. Bad teams are generally bad teams for a reason, and the Tigers team ERA of 4.74 is a huge reason why. Add to it that their starter with the lowest ERA is Armando Galaragga and their starter with the second lowest ERA coming into today - Bonderman - is done for the year. That rotation is one of the worst in all of baseball. Also, while I understand that being swept can be a bit of a momentum killer, it can also just be a bit of a humbling experience for a team that's pretty young overall. And going 4-2 over the next 6 wouldn't be a momentum killer...it would suck, but it wouldn't be a bad thing. I'm sugarcoating the s*** out of this, and I realize that, but it's not the end of the world that the team got swept. Just suck it up and move on.
  3. QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) Having a veteran presence in the middle of a pennant race is a good idea. Its really not about if owens is better or not, and more about what to do in certain situations. The whitesox forgot how to run bases in detriot and a little lofton might have helped. A guy like that would be a nice fill in. I would prefer Lofton over Owens...I guess I didn't watch much Sox baseball in the second half of last year, so I don't know what kind of baserunner Owens really is (whether he's actually good and smart on the bases or if he's just a trackstar) but one thing that is certain is that Lofton is a pretty smart baserunner.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) You know what's worse? When the Cubs won the last game in both series's, and then the Scrubs fans say the Cubs were better since they won the last game between the 2. It would be just as dumb if the Sox won 6/6 from the Cubs this year, and then the Cubs went on to win it all, and a Sox fan saying we were better. The last statement has no possibility of ever happening.
  5. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:41 AM) Milton Bradley Hunts Down Royals' Analyst. I love Milton Bradley. Dude's just so f***ing crazy it's hilarious.
  6. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) Loiaza is a mopup guy, someone to eat innings in blowout wins or losses. That's his role, and it's an important one. It lets you save Dotel, Thornton, Logan, and to a lesser extent, Masset for when you need them most. So don't sweat whether he hits 83 or 86. His pitch speed isn't really important. from the corner, nothin but net
  7. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) nook logan???really? might as well bring back TIMO Yeah, Nook Logan is terrible. I'd much prefer Owens to Logan simply because he doesn't cost the Sox extra money, even if that money is barely anything.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) They shouldn't of messed with Quentin at all. He's cooled off a tad of late, hasn't he? .212/.316/.455/.770 in June
  9. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 11:23 AM) Well that's true, anyone is expendable if you get the right deal. If they can find a guy who plays good defense at 2B, SS, and 3B and has speed and is a pesky hitter, launch Uribe. But I can't figure out who that'd be. Maybe too soon and maybe his defense isn't good enough, but Mark Loretta comes to mind. Not beating the world down, but a .278/.352/.370 line is pretty solid.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 10:54 PM) Maybe so, but it now gives Cubs fans an excuse to give when the Sox beat them in the two serieses. I wouldn't care so long as the wins are on the board. People said the Sox got lucky and they made excuses for 2005, but the banner in LF is all that matters to me.
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) Swish has sucked for the majority of the season so Iam not going to get to excited right now.This might just be one of those Uribe like hot streaks and when its done it gets real bad again. Nick Swisher seriously pissed in your cereal, didn't he?
  12. Richar went 1 for 5, and that raised his average. Yikes.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 10, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Coco was punched in the top of the head and had his face scratched. Pretty girly move by those guys. Shields threw a hell of a haymaker and Crisp dodged it. Or atleast I seem to recall Shields throwing one.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) For probably the best closer in baseball, yes. and then what do you do with Bobby? I'm not about to deal any prospects to Minnesota, that contract is not a pretty one, the bullpen has been fantastic anyways, and I doubt Minnesota would trade Nathan having locked him up for quite a few years.
  15. I'm bored, have no story, and have a deadline to meet...let's throw together a crazy trade scenario that fits the needs of some teams because it's fun and people like talking about trades!!
  16. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) The Cubs will make a pitch for CC Sabathia with Hill, Pie, Murton and another prospect or 2 Hill is older and can't find the strike zone, Pie's playing like absolute s*** in AAA, and Matt Murton is a DH playing LF. The Cubs can try, but there are teams with better packages they could put together for Captain Cholesterol.
  17. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 05:55 PM) line closed on dontrelle at 1.1 IP 8 ER 5 BB 3 H He's unhealthy or just flat out lost it...so glad the Sox didn't pick him up. He's bad.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) I wonder if the Twins would trade us Joe Nathan..... If you want to deal with that contract, by all means.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) Yes. (shhh) there's no such things as f***ing jinxes
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 04:05 PM) Swisher proving why you don't give up on a struggling young hitter with a history of major league success. but nick swisher is suck
  21. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
  22. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:51 AM) It might be a while if Beckham keeps hitting like this. (2 hrs today) You don't get much higher than 8th overall...so yeah, Gordon's signing with the Sox almost assuredly.
  23. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) offensively...beckham reminds me of "the passion" Eww, don't sign him then, I heard Mel Gibson sucks at baseball
  24. Really, the only time I ever go to Perkins is when it's 3 in the morning, I'm hammered, and I'm hungry as s***. I really don't think any of the above applies, so the Twins probably should not go to Perkins either.
