QUOTE (Brian @ May 18, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) You two must be close. I don't think I would cry if my sister got married. Guess I have a cold storage shed where my heart should be. We are very close, but I'm also an emotional guy. I'm also a hungover guy.

QUOTE (Cali @ May 16, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) I call it soda, but I rarely drink it... I ask for it by name if I do. Coke/Mountain Dew/Barqs etc. I have no problem with "Pop", but that's a little too general of a term. Asking for a pop is like going to a bar and saying "Gimme a Beer" There's more than one kind. You gotta be specific. See, pop/soda really isn't a term you should use in public areas, unless it's fountain drink and you have to buy the drink at the counter. If you're at a friends house, they'll say "do you want a (pop/soda/vodka-Sprite) or beer or water or something?" and you say "(whatever)." That's pretty much the only time I ever really refer to it as pop(/soda/Morgan-Coke)

Jesus, f*** the f*** out of UND......f*** North Dakota...GO YOTES! if it's halftime, I've left, FWIW and yeah, hamfaced...sister got married, and I've tried (and accomplished) to be sociable yet drunk from 8 PM to 1 AM. Let's just say I'm getting old, because I know how to stay drunk without getting blackout while remaining unsober. It sucks, but it was so damn fun.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 17, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) It's not career ending. It takes way more than a seizure to knock him off his spot as Senator. Tim Johnson can't really talk anymore, but he's almost a shoe-in to be re-elected...the one governor, I think from Missouri, was elected after he'd passed away too. This isn't stopping Kennedy from coming back.

I cried today. And then my sister said her vows. And then I cried again. And then I danced with her. Somewhere in between there, I got hamfaced. And then, at the end of the night, I cried one more time. She's still my sister, but she's not a "wite" anymore.

QUOTE (juddling @ May 16, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) Is it me...or is it ironic that after years of hearing people say that Joe Crede should get the Gold Glove but every year Eric Chavez would get it...now that chavez is hurt and hasn't played yet this year...Joe is having probably his worst defensive year ever???? So much to say, so little motivation to say it.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) I hate to say this, as watching White Sox games is something I look forward to every day. However, this team is boring. At least during the corpseball era, they would light up the scoreboard a few times each week. I'd argue that the 2005 White Sox were boring too. There's no comparison happening, and anyone that says I am is putting words into my mouth...I'd also say the 2008 Sox are more boring...just that I have no problem with boring, so long as the team is winning. Recently, even against mediocre/bad teams, they are winning. So there's no beef from me.

I saw Gavin in the 2nd (I honestly had better things to do. Honestly). His breaking balls looked inconsistent and, when in the zone, s***ty. I'm clueless as to how he threw any amount of shutout innings, let alone 6. Fantastic. HE'S MY BOY.

It's on WGN if you want to watch. This may be the matchup of two pitchers who used to be good and now suck. I like to look at it as the matchup of 2 pitchers who, at one time or another, used to be Cy Young contenders, though one won one (!!1!11!!1!1!11!!11oneoneone), but one is now mediocre because he signed a monster deal, took it easy because he's loaded for life, and will just go out there and pitch when the ball is given to him. If it's not, he'd sit down. The other one is a f***ing Boras client. f*** him. In all seriousness, Buehrle should pitch well in San Fran. Zito f***ing sucks. Hit him.

So I was watching the Cubs game today and thought that Mientkiewicz would be a fantastic fit for the bench. Am I alone/wrong in thinking so?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2008 -> 04:23 AM) You're both wrong. It's flippy-cup. People that go to school in Michigan have no say in this matter

QUOTE (rangercal @ May 16, 2008 -> 04:02 AM) Precisely. And that never gets old. (we also aren't talking about KGf***ingII, we're talking about Kf***ingL...fwif***ingw) -
Sox r haz one 2 in row like zOMGZ!!!11!111!ELEVENTY Seriously, Thome will be sitting, Konerko should be sitting, Swish should be at 1B and Anderson should be in CF...if that's as so, Gavin could have himself a day. If Konerko's at 1B and Swisher's in CF, Floyd better strike someone out every inning and not walk many because the defense won't be what it could be, especially in a bigass park. WAIT, I R THAWHT SOX R TRADED 4 SANCHEZZ R.? Yeah hit his punkass around for a bit please, cuz he's a f***s***b****

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 15, 2008 -> 06:30 AM) Oh, he was a much different pitcher in 05 and 06 than he was in 07 and now. In 05, Jenks was a power pitcher, just look at the strikeout totals. In 06, his velocity dropped some, but he was still able to throw it in the high 90's for the majority of the season, and he was still a power pitcher. In 07, his velocity was topping out at 97 on good days, but for the most part he was staying in the mid 90's. In 07, he transformed from a power pitcher to a finese pitcher. To say he was the same Bobby Jenks that he was in 05 is being ubsurd. Jenks velocity drop has made a difference in him... however, he has adapted, and his drop hasn't hurt him (yet at least). So please, try again, and give me a good example of when a 3-4 mph loss in velocity doesn't make a difference in a pitcher. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 15, 2008 -> 04:55 AM) What makes a bigger difference is leaving a fastball out of the fat part of the plate. That's the biggest factor of all.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 15, 2008 -> 05:59 PM) I didnt want to start a whole thread about it, but I would look at signing Kenny Lofton to a minor league deal if I was KW. His OBP has been fairly steady over the years and could add a decent presence to the top of our lineup. Right now our leadoff hitters have been some of the worst in the majors. Where the hell can you play him? That's the biggest problem of it all. The Sox outfield is completely full. His addition to the lineup would be nice, but I'm not about to bench Konerko/Thome/Swisher for Lofton. And I doubt Lofton's ego will allow him to sign on as a 4th outfielder. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:20 AM) There is no doubt Lincecum is better, or at least performing better, but people who have yet to see Cain are going to be in for a surprise if they think it's going to be easy win. There is no easy win with this offense when it takes naps against any random pitcher, but I don't think Cain is really that good. Terrible GO/AO ratio, mediocre WHIP, and not a fantastic K/9 to make up for it like Lincecum (though it's good...Lincecum's is good FWIW)...from the stats, it looks like Cain is a guy the Sox are going to light the f*** up.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 15, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) I called it pop as well. Not sure what's going on Sheridan or Wells county, but in Burleigh (pronounced like Buehrle) we call it pop. And so do I. Anybody else who calls it anything else who may even think about calling it anything else...is wrong.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ May 16, 2008 -> 01:56 AM) I'd have to go with Ty Cobb. 11 batting average titles, 10 OPS titles, 7 OBP titles, 8 SLG titles, 6 SB titles, etc. Highest lifetime batting average in MLB history, a .433 career OBP, over 4000 hits, 2250 runs, 900 SBs, 300 triples, 725 doubles, etc. Consider this: Rickey Henderson never had an OBP of .440 or higher, but Ty Cobb did it 13 times: .456, .467, .456, .467, .466, .486, .452, .444, .440, .452, .462, .468, .440. Cobb also hit .370 or better 8 times...it's not hard to put up a .440 OBP when you're hitting .370+. Not easy, but not hard. I'd say this is a similar debate as to comparing Bonds to Ruth, although at Cobb's time, average hitters were much, much more prevalent. Considering such, I'd say a .132 IsoOBP is more impressive than a .067. As such, I'd say Henderson putting up a career .401 OBP - as a non-slugger - is more impressive than Cobb's .433 OBP with his .366 career average. I'd say, comparing to today's game, you can dumb Cobb's career average down to .320-.330ish, thus dumbing down his OBP but increasing his slugging percentage to a degree where he wouldn't be hitting leadoff anymore but rather hitting 3rd or even 4th. Now, whether that's right or wrong is debateable (it is more understandable than dumbing Ruth's numbers down to modern times, because he was a 3/4 hitter and did put up modern day 3/4 numbers in the 20s), but that's why I believe Henderson to be the greatest leadoff hitter of all time and why no one is really even close to him. That, and his 1406 stolen bases and his 80.8 career stolen base percentage. Not only did he steal 1400 bases, but he stole them at a better than productive rate. Henderson was amazing. FWIW, Cobb stole at an 83.3% rate when it was recorded...caught stealing was not recorded in 12 seasons, and when it was recorded, he stole at a 64.7% rate, which is brutal as far as base stealing goes. I'm sure he was slightly better than that, but I'd find it hard to believe he stole at a 70% rate or better during those seasons, seeing how mediocrely he stole during his other seasons.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 16, 2008 -> 12:01 AM) Like I said at the time; it's a bad idea to give ANY pitcher 4+ guaranteed years. Looking back over the past decade or so I had a hard time finding a single pitcher who lived up to a deal that included 4+ guaranteed years, they either break down physically or just lose it all together midway through the contract. Buehrle is no exception. It's also far too early to be saying that Buehrle has "lost it." He's had an ERA near 4.50 since August of last season, but Buehrle has gone through long stretches of mediocrity before and come out very well in the end. He's a very dynamic pitcher in that he's up and down as much as any starter in the league. He's also durable, and that's something I don't see changing. I still have nothing wrong with the extension to Buehrle. I'd have much rather given it to him than Garland or any other starter for that matter. I also wonder what's magic about 4 years...why is it OK to give a 3 year extension to Garland, Contreras, Garcia, and Vazquez, but not 4 to Buehrle who's proven to be [just as/more] durable as those 4, is a fan favorite, and does happen to throw with his left hand? Is one more year really going to f*** you so hard that it'll make you re-think anything you've ever done?

QUOTE (fathom @ May 15, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) I have not enjoyed the Jim Thome Chicago era. He definitely has put up some misleading stats. According to several people on this site, you would imagine Thome has been mediocre. He's the main reason the Sox 90 games in 2006 and he's a huge reason why the Sox didn't finish in last place last year. At the very least, he's never measured properly...he's always underrated or overrated.
