  1. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 3, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) OBP and slugging are important stats. but BA and RBI is something that seems to get overlooked a lot around here. OBP and SLG are by and large the independent statistics. If you have a good OBP and you have a good SLG, your BA, RBI, and runs will be higher. RBI also isn't as important as just raw runs scored. I honestly don't care one iota about RBI.
  2. I'm not a fan of Walker, but before you suggest just simply firing him, I'd like to see some candidates to replace him. The closest option the Sox have is Joe McEwing. Is that something Sox fans are ready for? Personally I wouldn't be opposed to it, but it's not the best looking toy in the store.
  3. I do find it funny that Joe Crede can be the main reason the Sox won the 2005 World Series and how he's won several games for the White Sox, yet he can't be solely blamed for a loss because it's a "team game." Crede apologists are hilarious.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) Here's a shock...Cubs won't face him next weekend. I wouldn't want to face anyone in that Diamondbacks rotation anyways though.
  5. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) I just want to say, thanks again Joe Crede, for some real f***tardery defense. Its not often that someone can lose back to back games with their defense. I thought he was a gold glover though...?
  6. QUOTE (shipps @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) Just sayin.Iam not a fan of Nick's game and never have been. And I'm just saying you're still justifying it.
  7. QUOTE (shipps @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) And to think I once made a very unfair comparison... Swisher=Burnitz. I love when people justify comparisons they made in the offseason on May 3rd.
  8. QUOTE (Soxpranos @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:08 PM) I mentioned that a week or so ago and was jumped on how we cant trade guys with such good OPS and on their past accomplishments. I suggested, trade one at at ime and when one goes, be it Thome or Konerko.. bring up Fields and have play 1st or DH. You honestly feel that Fields is a superior option to Thome or Konerko? Honestly?
  9. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ May 3, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) You've made my point Actually you made my point too, because BA is happy to be in the majors.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ May 3, 2008 -> 07:04 AM) OMG I can has Gas Can pitchur? LOL pitchin well hes doin it wrong
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 3, 2008 -> 02:36 AM) Good for you. For the rest of us, we have to wonder how we got 2 hits and mowed down AGAIN by just an average pitcher. career 4.07 ERA, 2.70 ERA in 6 starts this season He's not Johan Santana but Shaun Marcum's a pretty damn good pitcher
  12. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ May 2, 2008 -> 11:50 PM) And he got blasted for it, which is why if he still unhappy, he isn't going to let us know. Because he prefers being in the big leagues than in AAA? That was a huge reason he was in Guillen's doghouse and one of the reasons he was sent down last year.
  13. QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ May 2, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) With each passing game, I am becoming more in favor of seeing the Sox make a move for Roberts. Their offense is anemic and something needs to be done to shake things up. I am as big a fan of Richar as anyone around this place, but I do not think he will provide that spark whenever the hell he returns. Perhaps a deal of Broadway + Richard or Cassel + Richar could bring Roberts on board. I think it would take a bit more than that, but I've been thinking a potential package centered around something like that could possibly work. Just so long as the deal does not include Josh Fields, I would almost certainly be content with it. Of course, if Josh Fields were in it, I'd almost immediately hate it. Baltimore might also want to give Costanzo a shot too, so they may not prefer Fields be in the deal anyways. It's hard to figure out what Baltimore would even ask for in a trade for Roberts. If you look at what the Cubs were offering them and the Tejada trade, it would appear they are just trying to stockpile minor leaguers who have a bit of talent. If that's the case, I'd offer them Broadway/Egbert, Richar, Russell, and perhaps even Cassel or someone similar. I'd give up a glut of talent to get Roberts, so long as it doesn't take Fields. I guess that's just personally how valuable I feel Fields is to the White Sox.
  14. The first thing I would do to shake up this lineup would be to trade Jerry Owens so he can never come near the Chicago White Sox locker room ever again. Preferably in a deal for Brian Roberts. If you really wanted to shake up the lineup, you'd call up Fields. Sure, he brings the same power as everyone else, but it's against lefties. You play him against every lefty and in place of Crede once a week (which will generally be 2-3 starts a week) and then you have him ready any time a lefty reliever comes in, and he can probably get 200-300 ABs.
  15. Can the Sox make a move for one of the Reds middle infielders, send Alexei down, and let Uribe be a supersub? It would be lovely to get Uribe's bat out of the lineup, and with his presence still on the bench, he can be a late inning defensive replacement and then allow a few guys around the infield to get an occasional off day.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) Carlos Gomez was hit in the head with a ball stealing 2B. He's been on the ground for quite a while now. It looked like it hit right around his ear on his helmet, so I'm hopeful he's OK, but we'll see. moving his legs and arms a little bit, but they have the golf cart out there and they're going to carry him off the field...sitting up eyes open, but he looked completely out of it. I've never really seen a concussed person, but if I had, I'd imagine that's about what one would look like. He seriously looked like he just woke up from a 9-hour sleep.

  18. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ May 2, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) What a player tells the media to look good in the eyes of the people who hold the fate of his career in their hands, and what he really feels are two totally different things. Except that's he's announced his displeasure with the media in the past. He's a pretty genuine guy.
  19. hay guyz iz turnbowl a gud fit!? lolz
  20. QUOTE (almagest @ May 2, 2008 -> 09:11 AM) They're gonna have to get and stay pretty hot to dig themselves out of that hole. Sweeping the Yanks is a good start, though. I still think they'll have a hard time maintaining a long winning streak because of their pitching. They're 1.5 games out of first.
  21. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ May 2, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) Yeah, ok. We'll see how long they stay happy in those roles. Who said anything about happiness? Besides that, Fields knows he's starting by opening day next year at the very least, and Anderson has 3 superior players ahead of him. Anderson should be happy he's finally accepted by his manager.
  22. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ May 2, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) Hey, you make valid points. But everybody on this board thinks that Fields/BA are the second coming, and I'm just telling you the only way they are going to get consistant playing time, barring any major injuries, and/or multiple missed squeezed bunt attempts. Fields is getting consistent playing time right now, and Anderson is the perfect 4th outfielder for this team.
  23. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 2, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) Nope...hence the green and the funny picture of Bud. Is true. Bud's a funny looking guy as is though.
