  1. Yeah Thome's not a stud. Someone please convince me otherwise
  2. FWIW, regarding Young and Anderson, I was always under the impression that the DBacks would have accepted either, but to eat the contracts of Duque and Vizcaino, they needed Young, who they viewed as more talented, over Anderson.
  3. I agree with sitting PK. Add to it that Garland doesn't exactly throw hard, so that may allow Thome to catch up to a fastball or two. Swisher to 1B, Anderson to CF. That also allows for the Sox to pinch hit with PK late in the game when/if Oliver is brought on to face Thome.
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 14, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) People really underestimate what a loss in 3-4 mph off of a pitcher's fastball can do. First off, it makes the change a whole lot less effective. The change didn't loose any velocity, it's still the same speed. Whats the point of the change if it's only a 5 mph difference? It also makes mistakes easier to hit as well. Every pitcher makes mistakes, but it's a whole lot easier to get away with mistakes with more zip on the ball. An 86-87 mph fastball is BP. An 88-91 fastball at has the ability to sneak up on hitters. To think 3-4 mph doesn't make a difference on a pitcher, whether that pitcher be a flamethrower or junkballer, is being naive. What makes a bigger difference is leaving a fastball out of the fat part of the plate. That's the biggest factor of all.
  5. so much to say, so little time to say it, so I just won't use the spacebar Vazquezisaf***inggodGarlandsuckscuzIsaidsoMakesureyourkidsaresafebecauseCarlosQuentinmaystealthemand usethemastoysbecausehedoeswhateverhewantsto that felt good
  6. why is Adam Lind not in the majors? I mean, I understand some love for retreads Wilkerson and Mench as much as the next guy, but he's tearing the cover off the ball. Anyways, Getz ends up 4-4 with a walk, homer, and 3 runs...just had a monster game. Up to .298/.360/.484/.844 on the year and I think you have to see a call up in his future. He looks solid as hell. oh yeah, and Eldred had two more hits to raise his average to .301. Not that it matters a lot, I just happen to like Eldred.
  7. I noticed someone else that throws 89-92 tonight. Good movement on his fastball, nice snap on the curve, and he really worked in and out well. He got hit around a bit tonight, but he's had a pretty good career, and I've compared him to Floyd before. just sayin'
  8. extremist posts...people need to be level headed and realize that the Sox aren't going to be destined for last place or the World Series after every loss or win.
  9. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) Along those lines, apparently Simmons (Sports Guy) and ESPN aren't very chummy right now. http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2008/0...tly-seeing.html ESPN is so s***ty
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 14, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) f***ing A this was such a great acqusition ....booze and all...the guy does it all........true to da cardinal pimpin f***in quentin preach brother as my favorite person in the world always likes to say, CHRIS WHO? har har har im funny
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 14, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) Rally Quentin? uh Super Quentin
  12. QUOTE (almagest @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) Brian Roberts: .264/.349/.405 I don't think that's going to ignite our offense, especially since guys who come here seem to slump for extended periods of time in our lineup. I'll disagree with the first statement. I think Roberts would get on base a ton, which would help either when guys hit homers or help relax the lineup. A guy on second base would take pressure off the middle of the lineup and allow them to concentrate on just going up the middle. I think the lineup is trying to do a bit too much right now. Carlos Quentin disagrees with the second statement.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) Should fit right in on the North Side. Weaver looks high as s*** too. not really relevant, just that he's baked
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 14, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) I really can't see the difference between infield hits and outfield hits. All the same to me. well the difference is that outfield hits generally travel a bit further
  15. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 14, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) it was me who posted this in another thread, and it was mostly laughed away, i even explained every single hitter's position in the lineup too then someone else comes along and posts it and everyone thinks it's a great idea lol edit: here's my post on the idea of AJ leading off http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...p;#entry1637091 atleast I just laughed at it because I do think AJ leading off would be funny. It could quite feasibly work, but it'd be funny nonetheless.
  16. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ May 14, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) So he'll hit 40 homeruns a year until what age? At what point do we expect players to simply run out of gas? He has been atrocious this year, simply atrocious, and we haven't even gotten to the part where he gets injured yet. As a 3-hitter, he's a joke. He should be hitting 5th, or -at this point- platooning. I didn't say he'd hit 40 homers. I still see an OPS north of .900 though...I suggested .925 in a post elsewhere, and I don't think that's that far off of what he's capable of. I also wouldn't be surprised if he's not 100% at the moment either. Sitting him down for a while and letting him get healthy wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. He shouldn't be hitting 3rd, and that I'll agree with. 5th would be just fine with me, but it'd be crazy getting him hitting 5th.
  17. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 14, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) When scoring three runs or less 2-15 When scoring two runs or less 1-12 When scoring a run or less 0-8 When not scoring a run 0-4 The sad thing is outside of the 13-1 loss to Minnesota the average runs allowed in these games. Total runs not earned runs, total runs is 3.5. Including the Min debalce 4 runs. average. Of the 17 games in which they have scored threee runs or less Carmona, Marcum and Halladay are the only legitimate pitchers. Well jeez, when you don't score a lot of runs, you don't win a lot of games? That's a downright shocker to me.
  18. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ May 14, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) Fixed. All players have useful shelf life and many of our players are well beyond their expiration date. This is an old, laborious team ... The only REAL excitement is coming from Danks and Quentin (to some extent Floyd), players just getting their careers going. I'd like 10 more like them. don't you dare fix that...Thome is still a stud and I would bet money his end of year numbers will prove it.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) I don't care what y'all say, those 4 popped collars look badass. YEAH, THIS COLLAR'S POPPED, CUZ IM THE F***ING MAN, AND EVERYONE HERE NEEDS TO KNOW IT
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 14, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) Thome should have been traded at the deadline last year. There was no reason to keep an aging DH getting paid a gazillion dollars except for the fact that he's a stud
  21. jesus, Konerko for Roberts? KW would be fired on the spot because that move doesn't accomplish a damn thing.
  22. QUOTE (Vance Law @ May 14, 2008 -> 02:07 PM) Not sure I follow as Crede's having a career year (for him) as of now. I agree with most everything you say here though, wite. I didn't realize his OPS was up to .840...I was just remembering his numbers from about 5 days ago. That's just lack of research on my part. He's fine.
  23. So Tom Brady said that ESPN is like MTV in that MTV used to show music videos and ESPN used to show highlights but that it's pretty much all about the drama and craziness now a days. That's why he's fav.
  24. Lackeys throws fastballs. Sox hits fastballs. Lets hits somes fasts balls.
