  1. Garland had a 6.25 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and a .937 OPS against him through April and May in 2006. I'm glad the Sox got atleast a bit of value out of Garland, but let's not bury him yet.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) Alright, let's try this again. The good thing... it's hard to rain out a game that's played inside a dome. It tried to happen in Toronto.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) Carlos in the Baltimore series: 8 for 12, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 walks, 2 steals, 2 doubles. Rose average from .246 to .312, OBP from .380 to .454, OPS from .918 to 1.077 Now THAT is a series. He's actually a pretty decent fielder with decent speed as well, and has a very good arm. He will hit some doldrums as many do their 2nd time around the league, but this kid seems like a long term solution in LF who can be a guy that puts up an OPS in the 900's for a long time. Now I see why Kenny said "getting Carlos Quentin was one of our main priorities" this offseason. If he's been merely decent in LF then he's been a disappointment defensively. I don't watch enough games to be able to tell how good a player is defensively. I've seen him botch a few balls, but that's about it. I also see him as the future RFer of this club, not LF. His arm is strong enough to play there, and that I have seen.
  4. It's 25 plate appearances. I wouldn't get too worked up over it yet.

    i am drunk

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 01:52 AM) Oh, it was. Today he tells us he got 2nd degree burns from it. So like good friends we laughed. Is there a something else you should do instead? Because with something like that, I think the only thing you can do is laugh.
  6. Can someone name a better team then the DBacks? Because I seriously can't. Not only in my mind are they the best team in the NL, but they're the best team in the majors...by far.
  7. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) Getting hammered at a sports game is for amateurs...or Cubs 'fans'. Depends on what kind of sporting event it is and how you act when drunken. I mean, who wouldn't show up drunk to a D-II football game?
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 10:57 PM) For as poorly as Thome has played this season he's still sporting an .842 OPS which ranks him #1 among designated hitters. (incredibly down year for the position) And looking at Konerko's numbers he's sporting an .811 OPS which is the 5th best for 1B in the AL and only .037 points lower than his career mark. I guess if your #3 and #4 hitters are going to suck you'd want them to suck like this. It says something not only about what we have come to expect out of those 2 but also the entire philosophy of the offense that those two can have OPS's over .800 while hitting .229 and .214 respectively. Given that, if either or both get up to even .260, they'll be fantastic. I don't expect Konerko to maintain an IsoOBP of 136 all season, but I wouldn't put 150 out of the realm of possibility for Thome. Honestly, if just one of those two starts hitting quite well, I envision the offense getting real hot real fast.
  9. QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) So what are you saying, we have one of the best? Yeah...combined they should put up an .875 OPS. Right now, it's performing badly. By the end of the year, I imagine it will be in the top 10 in the majors...atleast the 3-4-5.
  10. Well, if it's Dirty 30 vs Hardcore 24, then it's essentially Busch/Keystone/Miller High Life vs Budweiser/Keystone/Miller I'll take more for less, thank you very much
  11. QUOTE (lord chas @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) can you ever win the game for us thome? He's already won several games for the Sox.
  12. QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) Are you kidding, we have one of the worst 2,3 and 4 hitters combos in baseball. Swisher should be protecting Quentin in the order or vice versa. Sox really need a leadoff man and a Number 2 guy that can get the job done. Jesus players slump and you are ready to call them some of the worst. You don't actually believe that Konerko and Thome are going to hit this poor all year, do you? I don't care how you feel about Cabrera...he could very easily hit .250 this year and I wouldn't be surprised, but you seem to be just brushing the accolades of Konerko and Thome off like they are nothing.
  13. actually a serious one...John, how do you go about attacking hitters?
  14. QUOTE (The Beast @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) I think it's a stupid debate, but that's just me. I think you're wrong saying it's a stupid debate. I think it'd be more correct if you stated what you wanted to state, understood both sides of the problem, and lived with it. If there are logical arguments for both sides of an issue (or more than both...it doesn't have to be so black and white), then it's not a stupid debate. Someone saying drunk driving is smart would be a stupid debate.
  15. Owens should stay as far away from the 25 man as possible.
  16. Yahoo sucks at baseball just thought I'd point that out, because Adam "Not-Pacman" "Eyes Wide Shut" Jones is still just sitting there
  17. Welcome to "How to burn through your bullpen 101"
  18. How did it feel to be drafted by the greatest team on the planet?
  19. hey I'm taller then the person who has the 5th highest OPS in the Sally league
  20. QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) JD is just not the player he once was and we should trade him while he's still somewhat healthy. Maybe beef up the farm system. .882 OPS this season and he was fantastic in the second half last year when he finally got healthy. I think Jermaine Dye is the most underrated player on this board. I'm not sure how many people realize how good he really is.
  21. I'd like to point out that everyone talking about average here is really implying slugging percentage. You can get on at a .450 clip, but if you hit .100, you aren't scoring runs...that's true because your team slugging percentage is probably going to be .150-.200. OPS is still the best basic way of telling how good an offense/offensive player is. The Sox are 13th in the MLB in team OPS at .754, which is good enough for 6th in the AL. That's a good offense.
  22. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) Also, it seems to me that a different type of team wins the World Series every year, so I'm not sure you can draw many conclusions from who wins. '05 sox were completely different from the '06 cards who were completely different from the '07 bosox. Different teams, surely, but all 3 of those teams' pitching staffs were fantastic down the stretch. I have yet to really see a team slug their way to a World Series victory, and I don't expect that to change any time soon. Baseball has always been a cat and mouse game, with the pitcher being the cat and the hitters being mice. At any given time, that cat can put down any number of mice, no matter how many or strong they really are.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) I'd rather just enjoy the players while they are here instead of constantly looking ahead to see when they won't. For the moment, I agree with this. It won't stop the "sign Crede to an extension" or "trade Crede while you can" or "trade Konerko/Thome/Dye" talk, but it'd be nice if it did. Atleast until June or July when we have a better perception of how the Sox are going to play as the year wears on.
