  1. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 01:07 PM) Tell me this isn't f***ing awesome. It's not only because I don't see Tiger
  2. 8 baserunners in 3 IP with 1 K? Yikes, he's not adjusting well.
  3. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Frank is not an Ex-Sox. He is ever-present. Also, there is so much activity with ex-Sox, you could probably make a sub-forum in the DC for this. Garland and Young seem to get almost daily mentions. Chris who??? oh wait that didn't work in this instance, DAMMIT
  4. TOMBSTONE speaking of the devil, I need to find some cardboard with cheese on it right now because I am craving this thing our cafeteria calls "pizza"
  5. QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 08:30 AM) Unless you are playing games in the future and adding them to the stats, then we have two below average 3rd baseman, draw your line where ever you like. I can't disagree with this statement at all. My only thoughts on it are that Josh is younger and I want to believe that he hasn't hit his ceiling yet. Crede, as a 30 year old player, I would imagine has peaked. So I have hope for Josh to improve in the future, but, understandably, I don't have much for Crede. And, just so I don't have Crede's Crew eat my face off, I still think Joe's fine and he'll put up good numbers this year. I just want nothing to do with his beyond this season.
  6. and you so easily forget about Floyd...he is solid too
  7. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) I have actually split pots in poker tournaments a lot. Especially if they were winner take all tourneys. Depending on how much the buy in was both of us hated the idea of not winning anything that if a split is allowed I normally offer it. that's why winner take all tournaments suck
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 03:13 AM) He also has 2 game winning homers in the team's first 5 wins. A hit is a hit. Frank Thomas used to occassionally hit little bloops down the RF line for doubles on his way to Cooperstown. Crede's OPS currently is about 1.100. Obviously he won't keep it up, but who is to say he can't do what he did the first 5 months of 2006 when he hit over .300 with 28 homers before his back got so bad he couldn't pick up his little girls? That's really not too shabby. Aaron Rowand was talking about Crede last month and said Crede has been playing with back pain for several years, but now its gone. At one time, Joe was one of the hottest prospects in baseball. Its not out of the realm of possibility he can break about half of Soxtalk's members' hearts and still be a very productive player. #36 prospect in all of baseball in 2001...the Sox actually had 5 in the top 100 that year. Jon Rauch was the highest at 4, followed by Borchard at 23, Crede at 36, Matt Ginter at 44, and Dan Wright at 61. And, FWIW, Crede was also #46 in 1999. And #92 in 2002. And #96 in 2000. That is 4 straight years he was on the top 100 list. He's turned into a good player, but it would be nice if he walked a bit more. Not going to complain if he plays well, just that it would be nice.
  9. QUOTE (YASNY @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) I'll put my two cents in. When I first came to Soxtalk, it really seemed to have more thought out and intelligent discussion than it does today. When there were differing opinions, they were discussed without people going nuclear as often. I don't mind the snarky post from time to time, because I think they be well placed and add a lot to a discussion. Hell, Steff was a master at that and about 99% of the time she was right on the money. But sometimes it just gets a little overbearing around here. I have taken sabbaticals from Soxtalk because it just didn't seem fun anymore. In fact, I'm on a self imposed sabbatical from the 'Buster right now. I haven't even looked in there for about 10 days. I don't know what the answers are, but I do feel the overall quality of the site has gone downhill and it's simply due to the post quality. I'd like to add a few things to this, just to be a bit of a devil's advocate. First, since the World Series run, several hundred or maybe even thousand of posters have joined. Since the ASB of 2006 (and not including right now because I'll get to that later), the Sox had been a bad team. With a favorite team struggling, people tend to take their frustration elsewhere...soooo why not a message board that talks about said bad team? After last year, going through the struggle with Erstad (ughhhhhh) and another final year of Podsednik, along with Uribe playing pretty poorly and the Sox flat out being out of the race in June, people either lost interest or were just absolutely pissed at the team. Dragging into the offseason, these said fans saw a broken down team on the field, and KW said he'd fix it; most fans felt that was a near impossibility, and got even more frustrated when he traded 4 of the team's best prospects for 2 players and then traded a fan favorite in Garland for a new SS with Uribe still on the roster. Zoom ahead to spring training, and some fans were disappointed in the moves the organization made, because they felt they were the wrong moves at the time, and those disagreements may not be done with, especially if Owens comes back and takes over the leadoff spot. The place may blow up on that day. When fans have disagreements with management, they aren't going to be happy, so the negativity, atleast in my mind, is understood, though not necessarily justified. Now, I'd like you to compare those feelings to the feeling of the beginning of the season with the Sox on a 5 game win streak. I don't sense as much negativity; I sense a quiet excitement over this team, yet people having the patience to see where this team is in a week, 2 weeks, a month, at Memorial Day, at the ASB. If the Sox keep playing well, I bet the negativity stays away. It's so much easier to be happy when the Sox are playing well, and so much easier to be pissed when they are playing poorly.
  10. QUOTE (sox-r-us @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 09:15 PM) The reason it is a flashpoint for debate is because all off-season some of these "sox fans" (wink, wink) kept crying about how Kenny was a joke and how the Sox were going to be joke; then this whining became larger when some of the roster moves were made - like picking Crede over Fields and picking Masset over Wasserman. Both Masset and Crede have contributed and justified their selections UNTIL NOW (this is subject to change since only 7 games have gone by); so obviously some of these "sox fans" are all defensive now because they have been exposed to know little to nothing about baseball and winning. Some of these "sox fans" would have much preferred that the Sox would have been 0-7 right now so that they could thump their chests and show how they know more than Kenny W and Ozzie G. Negativity is what is promoted here.....sad, but true. Quod Erat Demonstrandum. You know, you really have a lot of balls to be questioning people's fanhoods. I think it's stupid personally, because you are bound to offend the hell out of someone real soon, and you are going to get torn the f*** into. Have a nice night.
  11. And now you know why you don't use ERA after 2 games. Sure, Buehrle has a 8.31 ERA, but he also had an ERA of like 37 after the first game, and he allowed 1 run in 7 innings last year. Hell, his ERA dropped 29 runs...anyone else in the MLB able to say they did that in one performance this year? I sincerely doubt it. Deveney needs to familiarize himself with baseball and stop using averages 7 games into the season.

    i am drunk

I love you too tru Now go and pass out in a dog kennel and have someone take a picture, because that would be glorious.
  13. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) I think the facial hair is fine, Swishers + Bobby's looks very normal.. Can't say much about Boone's tho.. All right, I don't think you understand what the word normal means. Naturally colored facial hair, even if it makes you look like a biker, is more normal than bleache blonde facial hair
  14. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) The Mets will be lucky to make the playoffs with that ugly rotation they've got. Johan's carried teams on his back before, and I think he can carry the Mets through a pretty weak NL.
  15. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) I don't think it's too early to write off the Tigers. Bad pitching is bad pitching whether it's 10 or 110 games into the season. They're a .500 team or slightly above that if they start hitting, and even that is questionable. Last year's team had a bunch of guys at their career bests, not unlike 2006 Sox, so it's not out of the question their offense will be worse this season (not "last place" worse, but middle of the pack). I don't think their rotation is this bad. Dontrelle looks absolute awful, but I like Verlander, I think Bonderman's still solid, and Rogers and Robertson should be middle and end of the rotation starters. If Dontrelle remembers how or if he can just put up respectable numbers, the rotation will be fine. And, quite frankly, when Zumaya and Rodney get back, they have two solid pieces in the pen, and building a bullpen on the fly is honestly not that hard. That Tigers team last year had some guys have career years...Polanco and Maggs for sure...but I don't think Granderson's game is suddenly going to get worse any time soon, Renteria is a pretty solid damn hitter, and they have one of the best hitters in the game in Miguel Cabrera replacing one of the worst last year in Brandon Inge. I still like their lineup...cuz, you know, they aren't exactly counting on Erstad and Pods to be good offensively for them. I don't see their lineup finishing anywhere near the middle of the pack...I still see it as a top 5 offense. But, I also don't see it being nearly as good as advertised (best ever? no chance)
  16. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) I really don't think much of this is going to matter, as the D'Backs are going to roll over everyone in the NL. I'm not about to sleep on the Mets, but the DBacks are ridiculously good. I see Mets-Dbacks NLCS.
  17. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) All things being equal, I'd take a 20-30 HR 3B with Gold Glove-caliber defense in his prime over an slugging RF in his mid-30's. That said, things are not equal, as Dye will only be owed about $20 million after this season. It'd cost about $60-$75 million or so in guaranteed money to sign Crede. Well, 2 things. First, I lied, since I'm further contributing. Second, that's entirely what I was getting at too, and why I don't think it's a good idea in the least. Generally, if you resign players, make sure it's someone you'll build around or that it won't cost a fortune.
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) if the Tigers were smart, they'd dump Jones, put Cabrera in LF, and have Inge at 3B. I agree, but they want to put the sexiest lineup they can out there, and with that, try and score 950-1000 runs. Obviously, it's not working too well right now.
  19. QUOTE (sox-r-us @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) Rodney's return has been delayed; and according to Leyland, Zumaya is "light years out" .... buh bye season Christ, the season is over after 7 games? Would you please step the f*** back and realize that there are 155 left? Seriously, it's April. I love that the Tigers suck, but they aren't going to go 0-162, and they aren't going to finish in last place (barring some more injuries to their lineup).
  20. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 12:19 PM) I say we let fields hit in the minors for this season. Then sign crede long term, trade dye and bring in the crede 3b and fields and quentin corner outfielders era. So now we're going to move a guy who hits 35-40 homers a year for Joe Crede? I'm not going to make this into a debate, so this is the last I'll say on it in this thread, but I think that's a terrible idea.
  21. QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) He owns/owned a restaurant and motel about 2 hours north of me and I was lucky to meet him one time I was in there for lunch. Very gracious, very nice. Did you let him throw you a few pitches? ...cuz I wouldn't have...I may be dumb, but I'm not crazy
  22. QUOTE (DonnyDevito @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) so true. let it be known that the official scorers at Fenway gave Polanco an error to end his 2 year error-less streak. but really any average high school infielder would have been able to make the play at 3B. cabera was just too fat/slow to be able to pick it like any average athlete would have been able to do. To be completely honest, Miguel Cabrera looks like he's in fantastic shape right now, so I don't know if I'd say it's because he's out of shape. I'd say it's more because he's just an absolutely terrible fielder more than it is fat and out of shape.
  23. If the Sox had Jack Egbert on the team, they'd have 10 wins right now.
  24. I didn't think they'd have McCulloch in AAA until he showed something in AA. AAA is going to be fun to watch, if you like to watch minor league vets who suck, that is.
  25. QUOTE (DonnyDevito @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) in other news...Migueal Cabrera sucks! He's going to have to hit 150 RBI's just to make up for his piss poor defense. he's got two errors already and the red sox game isn't even halfway over...LMFAO!! There's a reason he was going to play LF in Chicago, and that's because there is actual a bit of importance in defense at 3B. It's not an absolute necessity (unless you are Ryan Braun bad), but it's much nicer to hide bad defense in LF, 1B, or even RF than at 3B.
