QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) They were all traded or released, they did not start the next season on the bench. No way!

Cap'n Crunch is the breakfast of champions

QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) I always thought the unwritten rule in professional sports is "thou shall not lose his starting job due to injury." Although Ozzie doesn't like rules. Drew Bledsoe Kurt Warner Jim Thome Frank Thomas and I'm not even thinking

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 07:56 AM) I know Crede hasn't exactly set the world on fire, but what has Fields done to win the job either so far this spring? Both of them have hit like s***. For my money if Crede isn't going to be traded, I would rather see him playing third base because of his defense, to help this pitching staff. I still would rather see Joe get dealt, but if we aren't going to get anything for us, even if he isn't hitting, he helps this team. Fields hit 23 homers last year...why should he have to win the job? It should be Crede who has to win the spot from Fields and money should have absolutely nothing to do with it.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 05:40 AM) And once again I am the last man standing. Not sure if you're so much the last man standing as you are the first man standing.

QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 02:20 AM) Massett + Richar + Anderson + MacDougal + Uribe perhaps? give them all our s*** with one decent prospect in there (who some will argue is s***) and then they'll give us Roberts?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 08:56 PM) Link. Didn't he miss most of spring training 2 years ago? He was terrible in 2006 too; if that's how he looks, the Rockies should probably cut him

Actually I'd prefer Rickey to Jerry

QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) No need, I bet Crede would rather retire then put on another teams uniform. Crede is something else. Yep, sounds like it.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:40 PM) haha he looks like tim duncan in that picture Little Tim Duncan...like if we could go back 20 years and see Tim Duncan, that's what he would look like, except he probably wouldn't have on a Sox hat or jersey
-
QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) Just because Crede doesn't have any GG's doesn't make it right. It doesn't really matter because he wouldn't be able to get the GG on over his World Series ring anyway. Timo Perez has that problem too, he's so good

QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) Yeah you're right below average hitters hit 30 HR and 90 RBI. All I'm trying to point out is in 2008 Crede will help the White Sox win more games then Josh Fields. That's the most important thing right? Winning games in '08. Brady Anderson is a Hall of Famer according to your criteria; in fact, he's one of the best hitters of all time. How many guys in baseball history can say that they hit 50 home runs? Not many And what Tony said too

QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) Ventura's best year with Sox: 34 HR 105 RBI .368 OBP .520 SLG .287 AVG Crede's best year with Sox : 30 HR 94 RBI .323 OBP .506 SLG .283 AVG Sure Ventura was awesome and everybody's favorite but not exactly Ventura>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Crede Adrian Beltre's best year was one of the best a 3Bman has ever had, and yet I'd still take Robin over him in a heartbeat. One season does not make a career; how about doing something like comparing career averages... Ventura's average season - .267 23 HR 50 XBH .362/.444/.806 with a career 114 OPS+ Crede's average season - .259 25 HR 55 XBH .305/.446/.751 with a career 92 OPS+ Ventura was a well above average hitter and one of the best defensive 3Bman of the past 25 years; Crede's a below average hitter and is just fine defensively Ventura >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Crede

QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:51 PM) Geez, get over who his agent is, it's Crede's decision not Boras's. He signed with Boras years ago when his upside was "superstar" level. I think we all know what crede is and what he's capable of. I would say he's easily worth 7-8 million a year. You're right, that's is probably what he's worth. He's going to get $10-12 mill a year on the open market though over 5 years. And, BTW, it is essentially Boras' decision; Crede does ultimately have the final say, but Crede made the initial decision to hire Boras in the first place, and Crede hired him to make sure Crede gets a lot of money. That's what Boras is best at doing, and that involves going to free agency and finding the dumbest team on the market. Crede's not coming back. (and his upside has never been "superstar" level; you have to be able to draw a walk to do that. That's why Fields can be a special player and all Crede's ever been capable of was being a good regular whose entire game depended upon his average)

QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Ohh give me a F---ing break. Frank Thomas? He was with the team for over 15 years, bad example. The others are 5 players you picked from the last 20 years, every organization in sports can pick 5 players over the last 20 years that have traded their own. How about more recent players like Buehrle and Konerko, they took somewhat of a discount to stay with the organization. I think if you made a reasonable offer to Crede for like 4 years- 28 million he would take it. This would be the best thing they could do. He plays better then good defense, it GG caliber D and watching Fields boot balls last season should make everyone apprecitate how important Joe is at 3B. And their agents aren't Scott Boras. Seriously, that's the only point that really needs to be made and understood to end this debate.

Konerko quietly available
witesoxfan replied to That funky motion's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I recall that Anaheim offered him essentially the same exact contract as the Sox, and Baltimore was the one who offered him 5/$65 but that he would have actually made more in Chicago because of the taxes in Maryland. -
QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 07:43 AM) Eh his numbers weren't THAT much difference between home vs. away in 2007. Home: .319 avg, 17 HR, 48 RBI Away: .299 avg, 10 HR, 41 RBI Not a dramatic difference. His power numbers will suffer a bit, but who wouldn't take .300 on the road? He's a quality player now, but the Giants really overpaid for his services. That's how it goes with free agents, though. 100 point difference in OPS. Thanks for so sneakily leaving that out. .937 at home .843 on the road That's a monstrous difference, and now he's going to a monstrous stadium. I'd be surprised if he put up an .800 OPS.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) I am afraid that you may be right, but only because Owens has been ouchie. I would rather see Bourgeous make the team as the 4th outfielder. Why?
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) When Aaron Rowand bats 3rd for you, your team pretty much Sucks. If Crede goes to SF, two of our bottom of the order hitters from the world series team could possibly be their 3 and 4 hitters. Rowand was the primary 5th hitter in Philadelphia last year in an offense that scored 892 runs. He had a monster year, and going from the bandbox in Philly to the cavernous stadium in San Fran will take a ton off of his production...more or less just saying

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Brian Anderson really deserves to make this team. He'll get traded to San Diego and shave another run or two off their team ERA

QUOTE(haroldbainesknees @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) We can't sign Crede long term. According to some posters here we are just a few months away from a full-scale Florida Marlins type firesale. Therefore, signing Crede long term is a moot point. Which posters are those? I haven't seen anyone say the Sox need to go on a full scale rebuilding really at all. I've seen people say that it might help in the long term and would probably be better, but the Sox have put themselves in a pretty good position for the future right now. What I've suggested previously is that this is the most important draft for the Sox in about 10 years; if they mess it up, there could be a lot of problems in the organization in the next 2-3 years.

Has the Internet taken some fun out of baseball?
witesoxfan replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The first comment was half smart-assery and half inquiry based. But I try to be a likable smart-ass, if anything. Except when we talk about Joe Crede.... lol -
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 8, 2008 -> 12:45 AM) Crede seems like a popular guy. Who is he? He hit a couple home runs and now he is still being immortalized as one of the best 3Bman in the game. Podsednik hit a couple homers in the postseason too, including a walk-off shot, but now he's with the Rockies cuz he sucks
