  1. QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) Oh man looks like they stopped at Naper Blvd so my house got missed by a couple thousand feet You are lucky, otherwise I would have creeped on your house too. What is Google even thinking with this anyways? Do they not realize what a terrific advantage they are giving to creepers and stalkers all over the world?
  2. QUOTE(gosox41 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) If teams inquired about PK during July and KW wanted 3 top prospects, why would he lower his demands so much for just PK and give up a 200+ inning pitcher. It doesn't add up. Bob Because he was never going to get 3 top prospects for a 1Bman who might be top 10 in the league. Off the top of my head, and in no order... Morneau Teixeira Howard Pujols DLee Berkman Fielder Gonzalez and that's not including guys like Ortiz and Hafner who are DH's, nor does it include the 2nd best home run hitter this year in Carlos Pena, and it's very possible I'm missing some. At this point, there is only one player you might get 3 top prospects for in the White Sox organization, and that's Mark Buehrle, and even then some teams will question whether he is consistent enough to be the #1 of their staff. Also, Vazquez has the stuff, but he's on the wrong side of 30 and hasn't been nearly consistent enough the past 4 years or so, so you'd probably be able to get 1 or maybe 2 for him, but not much more. If KW's expecting 3 top prospects, he may as well go pound some sand now because he isn't getting it.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Not really. To put it simply; Anaheim need bat. If I'm Anaheim, if I can get a bat without giving up anyone I can't replace, I'm happy. I have more than enough OF's right now, but I also have too many light hitting guys. I need a 30+ Hr, 100+ RBI guy to hit behind Vlad. End of story. well that problem is easy as hell to solve; it doesn't involve giving up any players, there's no long-term commitment, and best of all, comes with a bonus .450 OBP! Nothing more needs to be said, obviously.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) I mean, is this really a deal that all of you guys can get excited about? There would have to be additional deals to make this in the Sox favor. I'm really sure you can say the same thing from Anaheim's perspective too.
  5. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) you can't retract negative feedback..so the bastard got his own medicine AND I'm not considering refunding anything. I've had a bunch of great experiences too, everyonce and a while you get a hyperactive crazy person that is unrealistic. seriously...I was selling minidisc player from like 1997. he won it for 5 bucks. Don't you think there might be one or two issues that you should look into? especially when I said..."I have no idea if this works or not" If it was 5 bucks, I don't think the guy should have his panties in a knot.
  6. I'd hate having any reliever be a big part of a trade, but it gives the Sox quite a few years of service time, improved defense at 1B, and cuts like $20 mill in salary. I don't know how much retooling is happening though, and then would Figgins be the CFer or what? Thankfully there's about a month and a half left until the real offseason actually starts, so there's time for more craziness to come out.
  7. QUOTE(Shadows @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) Miami is better than Buffalo, but don't mistake me for trying to say that Miami is a good team right now.. That's not what the records would seem to indicate, would it? Using the "first possession in overtime" excuse is hilarious; scoring is not a given, as only like 30-40% of teams score on their first possession in overtime to end it. Man up and play some defense, get the ball back, and win the game. It's also funny that they lost the Dallas game, because I thought Trent Green was supposed to be a great game manager who wouldn't lose games for the Dolphins. I think those were almost your exact words going into the season. So suddenly losing by 17 to the Cowboys (Bills lost by 1) and 18 to the Raiders means they aren't getting blown out? The Bills have been blown out in 2 games. The first was against a 4-1 Steelers team that looks oustanding so far, and the other was against possibly the best team the NFL has seen in 20 years. Compare getting destroyed by the Cowboys and Raiders to the Steelers and Patriots. And then consider that the Dolphins lost to the Jets at about 100% health while the Bills beat them with like half the defense down and a rookie starting at QB. What does that say about the Dolphins? Zach Thomas is 34, Jason Taylor's 33, Porter 30, Traylor and Holliday in the middle of the line...that's a pretty old team as far as I'm concerned, whereas the Bills are essentially full of players within their first 5 years in the league. If you'd just look at the rosters, you'd see the huge difference. I look at coaching and see the health of the teams. The Bills are down about 10 players, and a few more are banged up, and yet they still forced 6 turnovers last night. Again, some is Romo having a bad day, but the other is disguising coverages. I don't recall Romo throwing one INT against Miami, so maybe he was just having a really good day. I'd like to point out the points allowed statistic as well. The Bills are a bend, don't break defense, and thus, tend to stop teams in the redzone and force the field goal. I don't have the statistics on hand, but I'd venture to guess the Bills have forced quite a few field goals, seeing as how Denver kicked 5 field goals in week 1, Dallas kicked 4 last night, and Pittsburgh kicked 4 field goals; New England destroyed them like they do every team, and the Jets forced 346 yards, which is only a solid day. With a little health, the Bills defense is probably looking better than that even. I will. A future at QB (who knows about Beck, even with how he's looked, and Lemon's almost 30 already), a future at RB (both teams have), a great OLine, a very solid front 7 (too bad Poz went down), and a very solid secondary (with Jabari Greer looking really solid along with Terrence McGee, and Donte Whitner). A little seasoning, a little more talent, and the Bills should be fine. Meanwhile, if the Dolphins are rebuilding, they're not doing a great job of it; starting a 37 year old QB and bringing in a 30 year old Joey Porter isn't doing much for the future. You'd think if you're going to rebuild, you'd go all out...but I guess I'm not Cam Cameron.
  8. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) I'm definiely no scout but I always felt that Young had the potential o be great and I would have been surprised if Anderson turned out o be anything special. That was just my gut feeling. I would have been much happier at the time if the Sox kept Young instead. But, let's face it, the first stupid move KW made was trading Rowand and Gio for Thome. I love Thome but he could have signed Frank Thomas for less money and not given up ANY players. Thomas produced about the same as Thome the last 2 years. Did KW trade Frank for personal reasons ? I hope KW learns from his mistakes. The Sox can't afford to let their stars leave for no return. What would have happend the last 2 seasons if KW re-signed Frank and kept Rowand, Young and Gio. Instead of paying Javy, signed a FA pitcher before 2006. And, then traded Garcia for bullpen help before 2007. I know that's all hindsight but I definitely would have re-signed Frank and kept Rowand Gio. Heck, you're talking about a DH ! If Frank hadn't have been healthy like he urned out to be in 2006 it's still not hard to find a DH somewhere. They could have used Gload even. I was actually believing your argument for a while until you mentioned Frank Thomas. You are talking about the same Frank Thomas that played 108 games the previous two seasons combined right? How were you ever going to count on that in the middle of your lineup? Hindsight is 20/20; looking back, the Sox perhaps could have kept Thomas and been just fine. Looking at the future from that point in time, letting Frank go was the right move and bringing in Thome, along with coming off a World Series run brought the Sox attention they'd never had before. Thus, I really doubt you would have resigned Frank; nobody counted on Frank to do anything in 2006, not even Oakland who signed him. That's why they gave him $500,000 guaranteed and not $5 million.
  9. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 10:24 AM) Joe Torrre probably won't bench coach for anyone, let alone Ozzie Guillen. Why on Earth would he take such a demotion, especially for a guy who is nowhere near his level in prestige? I doubt he comes back as well, but it's possible he could come back for the love of the game and just end up stepping out of the spotlight, ala Don Zimmer. If he does, I'd imagine it would be for St. Louis and not Chicago.
  10. QUOTE(Shadows @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 02:19 AM) They will, they play Buffalo twice We can keep this up forever wite We'll see; the Bills have lost a game twice this year - as in had the lead and then gave it up - on last second field goals, both of which the teams were lucky to be able to even attempt. The Dolphins have lost on last second field goals, but there wasn't any voodoo magic involved like there was last night nor against Denver. Add to it that the Bills defense is also much younger, and I like the Bills going forward much more than I do the Dolphins. You also have to consider the points allowed here; the Bills play a bend, don't break style defense, especially in the red zone, and it's shown this year in that they've only ever given up a great amount of points one time, and that was against the (soon-to-be-19-0) Patriots, whereas the Dolphins improved defense with Joey Porter has given up 31 or more 3 times already in 5 games. That doesn't bode well for success. I'd imagine based on coaching and youth alone that the Bills are already better, and they should have atleast last night's game to their win total too. They also have a pretty damn bright future finally thanks in large part to Levy taking over GMing duties.
  11. QUOTE(Shadows @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 12:13 AM) I sure hope Buffalos game ball went to Tony Romo for keeping them in the game and preventing what surely would have been a blow out I sure hope Miami wins a game this year.
  12. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 01:16 AM) Jauron needs axed tonight he is the worst head coach I have EVER seen! Except that Jauron is the best coach the Bills have had since Wade Phillips. There's some direction and a voice for a second straight year. Even if they are 1-4, they've lost two games on last second field goals; so long as Marv Levy and company can get more talent on the field, the Bills will be fine within the next few years. I love the direction the team is heading, and it appears they have a couple pieces at pivotal spots in QB and HB, so long as these last 3 games or so from Edwards haven't just been apparitions, because he has looked absolutely fantastic. Get a few receivers, build up a nice front 7 on defense, and they'll be on their way.
  13. Greg, had you put the Cubs in the AL Central this past year, they would almost assuredly not have made those moves. They made those moves because they knew those players would be solid in the NL; in the AL, Marquis puts up a 5.00-5.50 ERA, Lilly's in the 4.50-5.00, and Zambrano may be a 4.25-4.50 ERA type guy too due to his erratic control. The Cubs are not a good team in the least, and in 3 years, they are going to really regret giving these contracts out. Hell, Soriano's already having nagging injury issues, and he's in the first year of an 8 year deal. Besides that, if the Cubs are in the ALC and do make those moves, they are probably a 72-78 win team. They only won 85 games in the NL which is just as bad as it was last year (save the NL West...it's getting very good), and now they're playing golf. How much fun does that sound like? The Cubs are not what you want to imitate in the least, ever, ever. 100 years without a World Series title, expensive veterans around the entire roster for about 5-6 years, and getting not only swept, but absolutely destroyed in the playoffs by a much younger team than the one you have put on the field. Never do I want the Sox compared to the Cubs.
  14. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 12:30 AM) Hmm...If that is true then thanks for the update. I do remember hearing news about him last season and going into this season that he would be available this offseason for teams. During the season I heard less and less so maybe this would be why. The only reason I don't know how accurate that is is because I thought he signed a deal with the Cubs. Maybe it was to just avoid arbitration but usually doesn't a contract void your upcoming arbitration years? If so, it was a one year deal and I don't know about an option for 08'. Also, I thought Prior was called up in like May or June before he had that surgery? Does the 60 day DL not count against you for those things? Anyone know? A one year contract is usually agreed upon to avoid arbitration; it does not necessarily mean the player is a free agent once the 1-year deal expires. You can sign for more years than that, or you can go to an arbiter and have him decide the salary for the player for the upcoming season. However, the team always has control of a player for 6 years unless they decide not to offer the player a contract at all.
  15. QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) Same here. Something about foods with that color, consistency, and taste make me gag unless masked by several other flavors. Yogurt, cottage cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, yuck. I am afraid I may never be able to talk to you again. I'm not quite like the fat kid who drinks mayo for hydration, but sour cream and mayonnaise are two of my favorite condiments in the entire world. And I have no problem with the aging process; mold and curdling done properly is delicious.
  16. I'm just gonna go ahead and blame Shelley Duncan
  17. 2 teams down, 1 to go, and then I can rest easy about the MLB playoffs. Problem is, I don't see Boston losing.
  18. wow Loss for words, except f*** THE GODDAMN COWBOYS thats two s***ty losses on freak field goals this year.
  19. QUOTE(Shadows @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Ive seen plenty of good football being played, but don't let Romo's first bad game of the season fill your head with thoughts that Buffalo is even any good.. they still have plenty of time to blow this Like by forcing a 5th turnover. The Bills aren't good, but they are putting together a good coaching staff and just need a little more talent on the field. Give it 2 years, and I'd like to see where they are at.
  20. QUOTE(Shadows @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) This game reminds me of the first game back in the Superdome last season, it seems like it doesn't matter who they would have played tonight there was no way they would lose.. It just seems everyone is amped up since its been 13 years since their last Monday Nighter, but hopefully itll be another 13 years after tonight before I have to watch Buffalo on TV :puke It must suck watching good football being played.
  21. The Bills probably didnt draft Edwards just because of value. He looks great, and seeing that he's spread it around brings me a lot of hope. Give him some actual talent - Evans can't do everything by himself - and he may be a pretty damn good QB. I like how the team is looking right now.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) I absolutely HATE Tony Gwynn's voice. annoying voice, good knowledge I'll take Gwynn every day and then some over Tim McCarver. Tony Gwynn's voice is annoying because it's annoying; McCarver's a dumbass, and then his voice sounds just stupid because he's a dumbass. I will take a top 10 hitter of all time () over McCarver's dumbass every day no matter how he sounds.
