QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) Defensively, Gwynn is far and away their best option in Center. With all of the fire power that the Crew already has...they can live with him struggling at the plate. Besides, Gwynn can bunt, steal bases and play the small ball that the Brewers need desperately. I think Gwynn struggled in AAA because he was up and down so much during the year and never really got comfortable. They looked fine offensively to me; it looked more like they need a manager with a clue.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) Keep Joe Crede and sign him for 3B long term. We dedvelop our own players through tghe sytem and then trade them becasue they want more money!? We then dream about trading for somebody elses expensive player. Look at the star players we have let go becasue we didn't want to pay them the money they asked for. Why should we pay Burrell or anyone esle the money we could be paying our own? I think we are seeing the problems that develop when you look at someone elses talent and swoon and undervalue yours so much. Joe Crede is gold glove and silver bat potential. Joe Crede is not a star

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) I think all the people who hate Fenway, Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field wish they had a ballpark that was host to a tenth as much history as those ballparks, or which was loved by a hundredth the amount of people. While the hundredth part might be right (THANKS MEDIA - and you'd agree), the tenth I'd disagree with because I'm a homer both for the Sox and USCF and against all 3 of those teams. That, and the fact that none of those teams has ever gone 11-1 in the playoffs AND won 8 in a row. Two of the teams have done one of the two, but USCF is home to someone who did both, and then won a World Series... ...by a team KW created..

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:25 PM) I just signed myself for $20M a year, but of course that's in Monopoly money. I luv A-Row, vut that's too much I think to ask fo. Maybe $10M $10 mill is the absolute lowest he'll sign for. I imagine $12 mill is the most realistic goal, and $13-15 mill is reasonable.

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) I've heard Hahn plays a bigger role in the Sox front office then he is given credit for. Bob Then, according to the credit your are giving him, he does a great job. I wouldn't say the sole reason, but he was probably the biggest reason Buehrle resigned.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) If you people think Rowand is looking for alot of money your really going to be shocked when Hunter signs for 18-20 Mil per year. No

I refuse to acknowledge a person of that mental ineptitude as gorgeous. Her imbecilic ways make her ugly as s***. That being said, intoxication can change a lot.

#16 sucks at softball from what I hear -
From everything I've heard, the Angels are considered the favorites to land ARod.

Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:57 AM) I'd add Oswalt to that list as well. I'd agree and I'd say there are more too; I was just kind of in a hurry and threw out the first 5 names that came to mind. Lackey could be thrown in there, and there are a number of borderline guys, such as Penny, Haren, Cain, and Hamels that are all pretty close to being put into that category. -
QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Yes I know about the site, but I thought it would be a fun discussion. What would you guys think if the Sox traded PK & Jon to LAA for Kotchman, Santana, Figgins, and Wood. Then did the Phillies deal? Could we still get Hunter? To be 100% honest, I'd think I was on drugs or playing XBox. I don't think there's anyway they'd do Konerko and Garland for Kotchman, Figgins and Shields, so why in the hell would they take out Shields' $4.25 mill salary for 2008, give up Santana, and then include their top prospect as well?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) It's actually $24M next season. For $24M they could probably get Bonds and maybe Jason Jennings or for sure Carlos Silva and keep all their young talent. Actually, I hadn't researched it much, but Shields and Figgins make $9 mill combined next year. Kotchman is like in his 3rd year of service so he's making jacks***. So, they are essentially not spending $15 mill a year by not making this trade; $15 mill gets you Bonds. I think I just wouldn't make the deal. Seriously, this move would make all the sense in the world for the White Sox, and no sense at all for the Angels. That's why it's not going to happen.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 11:28 AM) You are right, he would be a better value, but if Jerry Owens is the regular CF for the 2008 White Sox, there would be cause for concern. The bottom line is unless KW wants to sign guys coming off injuries or multiple dissappointing seasons, players who have produced are going to be very expensive. Probably ridiculously expensive. KW was looking for a correction, but even Hawk said everyone is making money, so I don't think his correction is coming this winter. There may be a time when we think those silly contracts everyone was signing last year were bargains. And that is about the scariest thought I've had all day, and it's entirely possible too. Who would you rather have...Gary Matthews Jr at $11 mill, or Aaron Rowand at $13-14?

Trading Fields and/or Danks for a star

QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 06:02 AM) Agreed. Maybe I'm the only one...but I don't think CY will amount to much. Even if you do believe CY will bust out to All-Star caliber...we did get Javy. Javy is a boarderline ace or top tier #2 at 12 mil/year. Hell with Javy's stuff, if we gave him any kind of defense/run support/bullpen regularity (as in an ERA below 10), Javy could compete for 20 wins next year. We should stick with Fields and Danks. They're still prospects IMO with bright futures. We're going to need at least one of them to pull through in a big way for us. I believe it's more than likely that one will. Javy is a #2 in a good year, and is usually a 3-4. Ace pitchers are Johan, Webb, Peavy, Sabathia, Beckett; Vazquez's name doesn't belong with that group of pitchers. -
QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 06:30 AM) Ned Yost has recently come out and said that Hall is still #1 in line for CF, which I think is just trying to up the ante in seeing what they could get for Billy. Everyone on the planet knows they want to put Gwynn Jr out in Center next year. Really? Based on his AAA stats, he looks like a worse Jerry Owens. I tend to doubt they are looking to get him into CF next year.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 05:49 AM) I did say I'd want Shields over Santana. Yet I also said the Angels should put in a young pitcher who could help in a year or two [that should have a higher ceiling that Santana]. That way, the Sox would be better in the short term, with the contracts for Dye, AJ and Mark showing the sox plan on competing right away. But the young pitcher would be help for the future as well. That way, both sides are covered. Santana has struggled for a few yrs now and IMO doesn't fit in the Cell with his FB tendencies. The Angels are probably getting the short end of the deal as it is, giving either Santana or Shields; why would they then include another high ceiling arm as well? They are taking on $20 million, getting older than the Sox, and are forced to resign Garland. Why would they take on $20 million that way when they can just spend $10 mill more, get ARod, and keep Shields, Figgins, and Kotchman, especially knowing how gunshy they have been about making trades in the past?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:11 AM) Negotiation. Important word here. He won't get that much, he is probably as sure of that as everyone else is. thank you

So I watched ER tonight, and really liked it. I'm just wondering if I can still keep my man card.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) I wish someone would read the angels fans perspective on the deal. I know we all want to rape another team and all, but its not going to happen with the crazy trade all of this salary for better plays stuff. There are also better ways the Angels could spend $20 million.

There are some douches in every crowd who don't understand the rules. What can you do. The game got interesting until Drew choked on a fat one. Go Rocks.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) Which is all the more encouraging if his velocity is as what's reported in this thread. How often do pitchers throwing below 90 miss bats at such a high rate and limit home runs without deception, specialty pitches or superb location? He obviously has something to his benefit which explains the success of these last two seasons. Pitching without fear isn't reason alone. I'm still concerned about why his ERA jumped as it did when Lucy was promoted. He went from allowing an OPSA of .679 or lower in April, May, June, and July, and then it climbed all the way up to .799 in August, which coincided with Lucy's promotion. I would prefer to see what he can do in AAA with a different catcher next year, because if he's going to succeed in the majors, he's going to have to be able to work with a different catcher; Lucy is not starting material.

I love Egbert...he's probably my favorite prospect in the system right now because I'm almost positive he's going to contribute quite a few innings at the major league level, whether with the Sox or not, and I don't believe Pratt is saying he's not on the list because he sucks and he's going to suck. A lot of these lists are about stuff too, so that would also make sense as to why he's not on there. I don't necessarily believe he can't be a 3, but by all accounts, he doesn't have front of the rotation potential. That too is going to get more love in these lists than a guy with mediocre stuff but outstanding numbers. That said, it is really hard to ignore all of his peripherals; K/9 of 9, K/BB of 4, 0.16 HR/9, 1.13 WHIP, 7.5 H/9, 1.93 GO/AO, and I'm sure there are more and more. Point blank, he's not on the list because he doesn't have electric stuff, but he's got a future in the bigs. I don't know what kind, but I'm sure he has a future.

HEY O baseball game going on I love Clint Hurdle, but why change your lineup? F Willy Taveras
