D-Backs Cubs Series thread
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) First of all, Jordan has to change his sig. Second, it's now time to just sit back, relax, and enjoy some playoff baseball with absolutely no cares. Even though I was pretty sure the Cubs wouldn't do anything, there was always just the slightest chance that they would. Now, it's final. f the Yanks and Sawx too

The only thing I like about those Frank TV commercials is when he says turducken. That's seriously it, they've gotten absolutely beyond annoying.

2007 Post ASB MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 12:29 AM) I realize how he feels like crap about blowing that game and that New York fans can be dicks, but how can a guy over 40 turn down 13 mil? He'll never get that $$ from anyone else. Because he's f***ing loaded and at this point, $13 mill doesn't do anything more than $7 mill will do. He's been a good enough pitcher that he's probably set financially.

I want Barry Bonds in the Cell
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) I'm not sure if I should post my dissenting opinion in this thread or not, but here goes. I dislike Bonds very much so and would have trouble feeling good about winning anything with him as the catalyst. The win's would be tainted IMO. Don't get me wrong I root for the laundry, but I prefer my laundry to be clean. Bonds would leave an indelible mark on this franchise...win or lose. And I'd bet that the wins are tainted in the first place.

Chris Young.....
QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 09:31 AM) yeah, because he hit 30 homers? What about the fact he can't hit for average and can't get on base at over a .300 clip? He is a far ass way from being good. So, based on those measures, I'd have to think you don't like Josh Fields either. 30/30 as a rookie, he's shown the ability to take a walk in the minors, and he plays great defense in CF (but a so-so arm). I think Chris Young is going to be a special player, probably a star in the league at some point. He's outstanding.

White Sox minor league review
I'd take Chris Young over Fields, simply because I think he'll be the better all-around player while having similar power. I invision Young being about a .900 OPS guy with the speed to steal 30 or more bases while playing pretty rangy defense in CF, which is far harder to fill than LF or 3B. On the other hand, I could easily see Fields turning into a 40 homer guy (on the extreme, somewhere between Adam Dunn and Ryan Howard, likely with fewer walks; it's also unrealistic to expect that type of production out of a second year player, so it may take some time). All in all, those are probably the shining stars of the past 3-5 years, which sucks when Young is in a different uniform.

Yanks vs. Indians
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) I didn't like the biceps on that Indian logo. Just like I don't like the big juiced up Blue Jay bird. I remember the Blue Jays when their logo was that little bird -- the 1993/1994 Blue Jays logo. But it shows us what the game thinks about steroid use, and the fans. Chicks dig the long ball and huge biceps

D-Backs Cubs Series thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 09:31 AM) It still would surprise me if this series doesn't get to game 5. Supposedly Santo was saying again last night that he wants to beat up Valverde for his show-off antics on the mound. I hate that legless f***er so much. I thought that going into the series, but the Cubs look like s***, Hill got lit up in September, and I always get a funny feeling about Cubans in the playoffs. I think this thing ends Saturday night.

D-Backs Cubs Series thread
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 01:07 AM) No surprise tonight. The Cubs just aren't that good. They were the tallest midget in a horrific division. Everybody knew (except fathom) that they would be exposed. And are the D-backs fun to watch or what? Their farm system has come through quite well for them the last few years. Chris Young eats children.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 12:51 AM) Ted Lilly - 1 Ted Lilly's mit - 0 Lilly showed that glove who's boss. I think Young's homer is still flying. Was that a thing of beauty or what? And he gave the "I know I got every inch of that one" hop for good measure. I actually did the exact same hop in my room.

More Organizational Moves
QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) then that would mean Jerry Owens being our starting CF, since Ozzie and KW love him as well, and I think his good final month almost guaranteed him a roster. Plus, like someone else stated, if Erstad is still on this team, he will be getting way too much playing time. And, Jerry Owens is not starting leadoff hitter quality. We need someone who is proven and can slug over .400. I got no problem with Owens on the bench as a pinch runner late in games and such and a spot start here or there, but thats all. I still see Owens as the 4th outfielder next year.
