If the Sox fans would fill the stadium, even during losing seasons, like the Cub fans do, then they would have a 90mill payroll like the cubs too Face it, we are responsible for our team not having the resources....it is very simple economics. It will improve once the new deal with USCellular revenues help the Sox and hopefully, once the stadium gets more fan friendly with the reconstruction. Also, the Comcast deal may help the Sox out...but until then, hope and pray I am sure we can win our weak ass division without spending too much right now with who we have signed. If we can get Guadardo from the Twinks, that will be awesome. I think you will see more moves by the Sox at the trade deadline since those deals do not cost much $.

How is this KW's fault? Are you really that naive or just plain stupid? Bart is taking that offer over ours because ours has deferred money and less # of guaranteed years. Do you know Jerry Reinsdorf decides whether to give upfront money or no?

I know you guys hate him .... but I do not mind Kenny Lofton again as starting CF,,,with Rowand being the 4th OF for depth off the bench and against LH pitching/pinch hitting Also, remove Sully from your list....HE GAWN

Our friend Bartolo still remains on the market, but the Yankmees are close to signing ex-Sox fat-tub-of-goo David Wells http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1681277

Although Perez may not be enough compensation for PK, we still need to do it to save $ and to change the type of team we have (slow prodders who hit HRs or GIDP with no clue about how to field their position) If we cannot make the deal happen, the ramifications are we might lose Maggs. People do not care if Perez is equal compensation for PK or not. The fact of the matter is this is a buyer's market in the MLB today UNLESS you have a player that both the Red Sox and Yankmes want....then you can milk them for due and most often over due compensation. Otherwise, you never get enough for a player if you need to trim payroll and cut a high salary guy unless you are lucky.

why has everyone givein up on koch and konerko
sox-r-us replied to soxfan420's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have not given up on Koch, and frankly I have not given up on PK being a good MLB player either (back to his 2001 form) My position to trade PK is not because I believe he will never be as good as the year before last, but because we need different kinds of players on our roster, and I would rather keep Maggs, CLee and Frank, than keep PK. Now add to the fact that his salary is 8 mill, that is not a luxury we can carry with our payroll. -

Please show me when did Frank have 3/4 bad years? YOu cannot years when he was injured....obviously -
We should not spend the 2-3 mill on Graffy since we got Uribe...instead we get Sullivan re-signed with that dough to strengthen the bull pen If Koch gets back to his original form, then our bullpen would be fine with Danny Wright Marte Koch Sullivan Wunsch ?????
-
How about Maddux instead of Colon? He would be much cheaper(fit our payroll) and might be willing for a 2 year deal
-
This is old....there for a while Someone here said it was speculated to be 4 yrs/48 mill But it may pulled of now that they signed Escobar
-
No way no how I trade CLee We can get speed in the OF from the CF....and CLee has played very good D recently too
-
Clearly KW is trying his best to sell PK with his 3 month comment.....good job KW. Frankly, PK may very well get back to the year before last form....but the point still stands that we have enough of his kind on this team....we need grinders and production from all spots in the lineup from both sides of the bat, and we need salary to achieve that....hence, PK needs to go Out of CLee, Maggs and PK, I would gladly give up PK This may not be a bad deal for LA too, since they need a PK type....they need some thunder and would not mind the baggage that comes with it Good trade for both Perez will be the gravy for us if he can get 12-13 wins Garland, Perez, Loaiza and Buerhle are competitive enough for us in our division
-
I agree....it is not about what we get back...it is about dumping salary of a player of which kind we have many This deal will help us keep Maggs and CLee, most likely beyond next year This deal now allows us to get both Robbie and Sullivan back if we want, and still add a good reliever.....or we add Colon and make this the best pitching staff in the AL Central Though the question still stands? Who plays first base now? Maybe we go after Palmeiro????? Left handed bat and a vet for a one year deal?

This division keeps getting weaker

If Sox fans would show up at games, we would not be in such a predicament. I understand most here go to games, so this is not an indictment at anyone here personally, but if the Sox do not get the following the Cubs do, their payroll will not go up. It is really that simple.....it is a vicious cycle where the fans will not go to the park until we get a winner and it is not easy to get a winner with a shoe string budget Although I think even if we went with the team we have right now Willie at 2b, Val at SS, PK at 1B, FT at DH, CLee, Maggs and ARow at OF, Loaiza, Buerhle, Garland as top 3 pitchers with Scho and some scrub from the market as 5th pitcher, and with Wright, Marte, re-sign Sullivan, Wunsch, Koch in bull pen, we could win this division of ours, as weak as it is And if we are winning come trade deadline, KW will definitely upgrade where required....the quesiton is will the fans come though....otherwise we are in the same position next year
-
Those who keep saying we could have had Castillo for 3 years at 5-6 million instead of Jose are flat out wrong. Castillo got a much better offer from the Mets but he turned it down to stay with the Marlins So it is fair to say we would have to pay 7-8 mill a year, and even then he could have turned us down.....then we would have no 2B and no SS, and no salary room to get anyone Getting Valentin is not such a bad thing This division is going to be very weak next year too, and is there for the taking if we can get one solid pitcher I am willing to bet anything, that when the trade deadline draws near, Kenny will upgrade what he cannot do in the offseason, at very low salary increases. That is the trend these days in MLB....get cheap players at the trade deadline With our division, if we get Colon or Ponson, we will lead the division by the trade deadline, provided we play with intensity from the start
