  1. If Iguchi performs well and shows he is capable of stealing bases, Ozzie better be ready to platoon Pods and Everett if Pods plays liek last year and not as well as his performance two years back We can always play Rowand in CF, Everett and Dye in OF corners
  2. No way this happens. I would like to upgrade our 3B situation at trade deadline if Crede sucks again, but I am willing to see what he does in the first half of the season. Obviously we have no replacement either for him (unless we create another hole at SS by moving Uribe there)
  3. QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) Tons, I doubt it, some yes. If your theory holds true then would you say there will be a "ton" of sox fans going to wrigley if Maggs plays for the cubs? I suspect not. You are comparing apples to oranges. First off, there are very few (unscalped) Cub tickets available. They will be sold out none the less. OTOH, there are always tons of Sox tickets available. Secondly, Sosa is far more idolized by kids than Maggs was. Folks who never got to take their kids to watch Sosa due to sell outs at Wrigley will come to Cell to show Sosa to their kids.
  4. I bet there will be tons of Cub fans at the Orioles games at the Cell this upcoming year I know of tons of Cub fans who have already bought tickets :banghead What is worse is they will probably wear their Cub Sosa jerseys and cheer for the moron when he takes the field I hope every true Sox fan buys a ticket to that game and sits in the RF bleachers to boo his sorry ass every play This should help our attendance in a corny way though. Never before were Baltimore games any big attraction, but this year I bet the Cell gets at least 75% filled up for that game
  5. I guess then we should just resign ourselves to seeing the spankees and red sox play every year in the ALCS
  6. Why was this thread moved from the Pale Hose board? :shakes head
  7. We better be able to win the one run games now When you give up as much power as we did with Maggs, Valentin and Lee for the season and Frank for some part of the season, we will not have many games where we score 10 or 12 runs. But with people like SPod, Iguchi, Dye, Kong, Pierz etc, we will not have many games where we are shut out and popping up or grounding into DPs either. The consistency will be there (i.e. in statistical terms, the standard deviation of our scores will be low). BUT the mean score will go down. Which means we better be able to now win the 5-4 or thr 4-3 games. Our pitching and BP should keep us more in the games. Can the O produce in the clutch to win the games. There will DEFINITELY be some games when we will realize how much we miss some of the power we have lost. If we go down by 5 forget it, this team can not come back. The key is how often we let ourselves go down by 5 with the pitching and fielding upgrades.
  8. Maybe this has been discussed in the sports bar, but I think this deserves to be discussed on this board as it concerns the Sox a lot. We are one of those teams that get screwed when it comes to FAs too because of these ridiculous contracts. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/base...y.ap/index.html Some points I would like to make: a) "I don't know about the bank vault being open," Mets general manager Omar Minaya said Friday. "We competed for Pedro and for Beltran with other clubs that were right there where we were and pretty much ended up paying." This is the same Omar Minaya who could not get any FAs in Montreal due to no money. He should know what it feels for these other teams. Paying 7M for freakng Kris Benson is crazy B) McClatchy's sharp talk mirrors that of the Orioles' Peter Angelos, who said first baseman Carlos Delgado's $52 million contract with Florida reflects baseball's "fiscal insanity." Peter Angelos talking about fiscal insanity? How much did he pay for Belle? For Tejada? For freaking Ponson? And now he traded for Sosa? :headshake c) "I don't know what happened, maybe they drank some funny water, but they all decided they were back on the binge," McClatchy said. "When somebody goes out and pays an average pitcher $7 million a year, then anybody who's an average pitcher says they need $7 million a year. That's very difficult, and when you're giving pitchers $18 million in arbitration, that also makes it difficult." d) "I'm disappointed, very disappointed in the other owners, and I think as we go toward a new collective bargaining agreement, there's going to have to be some sort of constraint put on because these other guys can't control themselves," he said. I agree with him. I hope there is a hard cap in 2006. I hope there is a long lock out to get it, but it needs to be there. Screw George and his $. I hope the NHL gets it too.
  9. If nothing else we should be able to boooo Sosa more than 3 times now
  10. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines
  11. Crede & Garland Because I expect the others to do what they have always done. If these two have great seasons, and I mean great, we could win it all.
  12. I do not see what the problem is with trading Willie. If Iguchi does not pan out by the trade deadline (by then we should have enough sampling size to judge him against MLB pitching), just trade for Robbie Alomar
  13. Honestly, if we look at Willie with such little value, what can you really get for him? Do not trade him just for the heck of it. Let him play on the bench. Competition will hopefully spark a fire under his ass to a point where he makes every at bat he gets count. Hopefully, at the trade deadline we get some vet at 3B to light that same fire under Crede's ass if he is not performing by then
  14. Just like last year, there is no doubt that there will be some months when Harris will hit 0.300. And I am sure Iguchi will have some months too where he will hit 0.300. Ozzie better be able to pull the plug on one of them and play the other at the right time. The question is can Ozzie play them at the right time and bench them at the right time to get an average of 0.280 to 0.300 out of the 2B position If these two 2B can split time (not necessary 50-50 but some ratio that leads to a maximized 2B production) effectively, and we get a great OBP from the 2B position, I bet we will win a lot of games because of the ability of Pods, Iguchi and Harris to steal bases and have speed on the basepaths to go from 1st to 3rd on a bloop hit by Frank, Kong, Dye etc
  15. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Bradford is a puke. He's nothing but a right handed Wunsch. There is a reason KW dumped him. IMO we need to trade Harris for a veteran UIF that can play a solid SS and 3B. Maybe not with as much offensive potential as Willie but more defensive flexibility. Bradford is NOT a puke. OMFG, this is the most ignorant thing I have read here. :banghead
  16. QUOTE(FISK72GOAT @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) Sweeeeeet!!! The Sox just got stronger, good deal K-Dub! Oh by the way nice to be apart of this sox forum, cheers to all. - the guy on the coach Welcome and
  17. I finally get through the 9 page thread Great job Kenny .... let's play ball damn it
  18. I would take Nelson over Neil Cotts any day of the week.
  19. We should get power by upgrading 3B at trade deadline...get some vet who will be FA after this year at 3B at trade deadline Until then, hope and pray we can win games 4-3 Clearly if we do get Iguchi, the only place we can put a power hitter without losing the speed, def etc we got at other positions is by upgrading 3B....unless Crede becomes a 35 HR guy this year
  20. Borchard = most overpaid player on the Sox What a useless signing
  21. Flash Can you tell us again what kind of team JR likes?
  22. Can somebody focking ask JR one hard question instead of kissing his butt? Disgraceful I say...
  23. There goes Jerry on his "owner" bandwagon again
