I would have signed Grudz to a one year deal and let him split time with Harris at 2B Grudz plays against all lefties (or substitutes Harris if a lefty is on later in innings) and Harris plays majority of righties Both split time and play at lower end of order (before or after Crede) Not sure why we did not go after Grudz
-
What would you do at the trade deadline if, say, we do not get Iguchi, and we go with the roster we have now, and assume no injuries I think we upgrade 2B at deadline, unless Harris is kicking ass this year Or we upgrade 3B with a stop gap vet that can split time with Crede Unless of course Crede gets his swing corrected and provides a huge lift this year I know it is early but I love trade deadlines with "wheeling-but-flying-under-the-radar-Kenny" Obviously I am assuming our BP plays strong, El Duque stays relatively healthy and we get a strong performance from our pitching in the first half as expected Which 2B could we get at the deadline because they play on a team that will go nowhere and will be FA after the year? And please NO ONE mention Robbie Alomar :headshake :puke

White Sox and Iguchi far apart in Negotiations
sox-r-us replied to Sanjay2000's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why did we not sign Grudz? I am not sure I understand that..... The guy had >0.300 two years back with the Cubs. He only played part of the season due to injury last year. But I would consider him at least as good as Harris if not better He and Harris could have split time at 2B with Harris taking on the righties and Grudz playing all lefties and some righties too I am not sure yet why no one mentioned this guy....now he is gone to the Cards, so it is moot, but I wish KW had looked at Grudz fir a one year deal -
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) Look at the career numbers my friend and look where they have pitched. One has pitched in Coors Jr, the other in SAFEco Park. (emphasis on the safety for pitchers.) And yet, Buehrle has better numbers. Wrong again The Cell has only become Coors junior last year after the renovations. It was not Coors junior before then. And Girlie has had much better run support throughout his pitching career then Garcia, and still he has had similar win/loss over the last 4 years Garcia's run support last year in Seattle was just brutal. He was 2-8 despite being top 5 in league in ERA during his Sea stint.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) The point was taken, then I posted facts to show who is more "consistent." Read back. Good job editing after being taken to school...next time, post your thoughts together

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) He'll be starting opening day, not Garcia. Way to avoid the point Consistency was the point. :rolly

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:51 AM) A pitcher who has been inconsistent for most of his career who may get hammered at the Cell? From what I saw, after coming over in the trade last year, he wasn't exactly dynamite. Don't get me wrong, I love Garcia. But if I want to ask KW about the trade, you all can wait in line behind me with your love letters. Yeah and Girlie is so consistent right? :rolly

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) Not really, if you'd been around and see how we've folded the past few years, it was pretty damn predictable. Once Maggs was on the shelf, I don't think many gave the Sox a shot and rightfully so. I guess then the Red Sox would have lost once they were down 0-3 since if you have been around for 86 years, you know how they have folded in the past :rolly

Does anyone else think that many of AJ's doubles and triples will become homers here in the AL version of Coor's? I hope so....I am a little worried still about losing the HRs with Lee and Magg's departure

Keep flying under the radar Kenny

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) So, their outfield would be a gimp, an underacheiver and Corky the Chimp Boy. have fun with that northsiders. You realize that would be ten times better than our OF right????? If Maggs is healthy and plays even 75% of what he has played throughout his career

When is the last time the Sox announced some great FA signing at Sox fest?

QUOTE(hi8is @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) if we sign both AJ and Iguchi im stoked as all hell, when was the last time the sox had a team going into a season looking this solid... 1. Pods LF 2. Iguchi 2B 3. Rowand CF 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. AJ C 7. Everett DH 8. Uribe SS 9. Crede 3B #1SP: Burhle #2SP: Garcia #3SP: El Duque #4SP: Contreras #5SP: Garland Bullpen: Cotts Poliete Visquiano Hermanson Marte Shingo Then look what happens when the big hurt comes back... 1. Pods LF 2. Iguchi 2B 3. Thomas DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Rowand CF 7. AJ C 8. Uribe SS 9. Crede 3B i would have so much fun watching that team. Now think about what happens when Kenny decides to make a trade at the trade deadline to add to this team

This is why we will never get FAs at market price
sox-r-us replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agreed 100% It is not about what we believe....it is about what the players believe ....and everything that I have ever seen as a Sox fan tells me if we do not overpay for FAs we do not get them for the reasons mentioned above See Belle for a perfect case in point -
If we trade Kong away in this deal WE BETTER MAKE THE FOCKING SPANKEES PAY FOR MOST OF VASQUEZ'S CONTRACT given he has no value with the yankees (they had him on the bench for a while in the post season) AND WE BETTER SIGN DELGADO THE NEXT DAY WITH THE MONEY WE ARE SAVING INT HIS DEAL (assuming Yankees pay for Vasquez and since we will save more by dumping Kong) Also, I agree with the poster who said this will all be Ozzie's fault if this goes down

Why not Jose lima as our 5th starter? He is definitely better than our useless 5th starter options within our system Get Lima
-
2 quotes regarding Matt Clement, from his agent: "I think the overriding factor became where he thought would be the best chance for him to win for all three years of the contract he was going to enter into. Boston and the Angels have dedicated ownership and management to have them in contention year after year." "Who wouldn't want to pitch in front of their family at Fenway Park?" It may not necessarily be true but the perception is that: a) Our ownership is not dedicated to winning (and this perception gets worse when Maggs says the same thing) B) We do not have any allure of Wrigley Field, Fenway Park, Yankees stadium etc etc Sad but this is what it is....

If we can get Dye, then we can trade Paulie + Garland to AZ for RJ and platoon Car + Frank at 1B/DH Dye, Rowand and Lee will make a very good OF We could have a line up of: Willie H 2B Rowand OF Frank DH/1B Everett 1B/DH Carlos Lee Dye OF Uribe SS Crede 3B Catcher SPs RJ Garcia Buerhle Contreras Grilli/cheap vet FA
-
The only reason we are getting this guy is because Guillen thinks he can revitalize another latino player because he can relate to these guys I bet anything that if Vizquel was not latino, he is not even called
-
This trade wll never happen. Oakland lives on pitching and they will continue to ...

I do not want to hear AL Central favorites ever again....I am sick of that after let downs every year in our division
-
What is all this love for Odalis-freaking_perez I just do not get? Ever since we heard we may be looking at paulie for Perez last year, everyone seems to be in love with this clown Did any of you see him get hammered in the playoffs? Why is this guy even on our radar? He is worse than Garland...
-
Didn;t we land up with the same attendance #s this past year as the year before? I swear I saw that somewhere I know we were getting much better attendance until the AS game but then everything came apart If the attendance was approx the same, then why should pay roll change? And all that means is the only way we get RJ is if we trade Carlos Lee or Paulie? Which means we will lose the division next year because of not being able to hit .... it is always something isn't it?

If Everett works out and gives us the year he gave Texas two years back (even if he gives us one great 1st half of the year), it should solve a lot of our problems We get a RF that can produce and reduce the loss of #s from Maggs, especially the power #s....with Rowand and Lee, that solidifies our OF for next year We can spend all of our money on a stud pitcher, a solid BP arm and one solid IF'er (either 2nd or SS)
