  1. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) If the Sox pull the historic collapse Kenny Williams has to lose his job. the sox had holes coming into the season. Every team with a payroll less than $100 has holes. But he's done a good job getting the right kind of players [mostly through Ozzie's prodding and style of play]
  2. QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) And that's what hurt Beck. If Garcia was on his game last night, we could have won the game. What has happened to him and Buehrle lately? If the Sox collapse, I will NEVER forget the two games at KC that we lost. Garcia had 9 runs and lost! Buehrle had 5 runs and lost! If we could have won those two games, we would not be in this tough situation. Anyway, that's the past. Let's go Buehrle! Take home the W tonight. GO SOX It'll work out. Once the playoffs start, all the regular season games will be history. the sox will be fine
  3. Mark B. stops the bleeding w/ a win tonight.
  4. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 20, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) I'm in but going to chat makes me more ill than losing. 9 out of 10 things said are negative. Even when we have a lead , it's "we're gonna blow it." If you don't join the negative banter you're an outcast. I've hadn't visited the chat but was stuck w/o TV the other night. You are so right.
  5. been in, still in, all year.
  6. Well said. The sox didn't beat themselves [though the walks did hurt] like they had been doing lately. They get a solid performance by Freddy and the outcome would have been different
  7. PK's going deep this aB
  8. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) Beck I see what you're saying but is there anything about this teams play lately, in the stretch run when everything is on the line, that makes you think this team is motivated or has any heart? So far this season, the sox have kept on coming back after losing streaks, poor play, and looking terrible. Many fans and experts have written them off, even before the Indians got red hot. Now most are aying "I told you so". They are still in first, and on pace to make the playoffs. That, IMO, and the fact that many of these guys have proven doubters wrong before in their careers, shows me they have heart. And even while they've been losing, it's not due to lack of effort. They may play poorly, have bad games. But it's not due to guys "taking plays off".
  9. QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) I thought we have to face the Twins and Santana again? I believe we have four more games with them at the Cell. I knew the sox were saying goodbye to Minn. But I forgot about facing them at the cell w/ santana
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) On Sep. 7 the lead was 9 1/2. People were starting to fret and doubt the Sox then. If this is what drives them and has them lose 6 games in the standings in 12 days with no head to head games against the compitition, I'd hate to see what would happen if nobody worried. This would be the biggest collapse in major league history. After looking like a AA team in KC, where they were lucky they weren't swept, they have scored a whopping 2 runs in 2 games in Minneapolis. I don't think the prospects for victory are very good Sunday afternoon. This team is choking big time. You make it sound like I think the sox have this planned all along. What I'm saying is people have written this team off all yr at various times. They continue to come back and play better ball. Maybe this team won't play the kind of ball they did at the beginning of the yr. Maybe they won't make the playoffs. But this team will fight. The players have that kind of makeup As far as the prospects "don't look good" for a win this PM, I disagree. Lohse has been hit hard by the sox. And Jose C has thrown well. The offense should pick up. As far as "choking big time", time will tell. Get back to me Oct. 3rd
  11. Time for the bats to break out vs. Mr Lohse. Time to say goodbye to Johan Santana 'til '06 Time for the Twins fans to eat crow about the sox "collapse" Time for the sox to start believing in themselves. Just win baby!
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) We win this game today and ill believe... we lost and i might start doubting..... this is a big game... a win would give us some confidence going into the Tribe Series. The key is a win would give the sox players confidence. Make the flight home one that they can laugh a little, relax and get them in the right frame of mind for the Indians series.
  13. QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Can't sleep, can you Beck? Same here. Great post! I still have the faith in our beloved White Sox. No matter what happens at the end, I'm going up or down with them. Should we take care of the Indians in the 6 remaining games we have with them like the four games we swept them after the Allstar game, we will be fine! Destiny, good or bad, is in our hands. And THE HELL WITH THE EXTERNAL MEDIA AND ALL. Noone gave a s*** about our team before the season started. Everyone outside of the White Sox Pride is now pulling for us to choke then collapse, especially that Brantley guy. Guess what? The 2005 Chicago White Sox will make the playoff. Period! When you get up at 4am every morning, you post at odd hours. The sox seem to play best when they have "a chip on their shoulders". That's because most of these guys do have something to prove. Maybe not to themselves. But to others. More importantly, they have to believe in each other and work together. My guess is these guys will get the slide righted and be alright.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxgt @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) HE SHOULDN'T BE!!!but unfortunately we have the one manager who would be dumb enough to do it and theres 2 reasons why 1.-) He's his close friend, ive realized that if ur good friends with him no matter what goes wrong ur job is secure (el duque getting lots of second chances and Freddy Garcia's inconsistancy) 2.-) Ozzies going to leave el duque in the roatation because hes a "big game pitcher and has playoff experience" wow, he cant even win a game for crying out loud. McCarthy's been No. He was the 5th SP in a playoff rotation of 4 guys
  15. The sox came into this season being written off by most media baseball scribes, and a lot of fans [who I might add, weren't exactly hanging around sites like Soxtalk]. Why? The team was made up of castoffs and guys with something to prove which left them likely being a .500 team that should come in 3rd in the AL Central. A team composed of guys like AJ [team cancer], Dye [old and washed up], Pods [a one yr wonder who'd likely hit .240 again], Contreras [a Yankee piece of trash with a 5.00 ERA], a 2bman from Japan, a fee swinging SS that has awful fielding mechanics, a daredevil CFer who certainly can't repeat a breakout yr he had in 2004, a team whose pitching staff ace is a 38th round draft pick, that lost two .290, .300, 30 Hr, 100 RBI guys in Maggs and CLee, shouldn't be near 1st place right?! The 2005 sox didn't believe the experts. They believed in themselves more. They had something to prove. IMO, this is what drove them. They just took each game, each series in stride. Soon, they knew someone on the team, someway somehow would help them win. They lost a little of their edge, after having the best record in baseball for so long. The aura of invincibility is certainly gone. But this was never their forte, their strength. This team is made of guys who have failed, who have been less than perfect, who have struggled a lot in their careers to get to this point. This is a roster filled with guys who have been more "question marks" than "all stars" If a collection of guys can overcome this late season fade, the 2005 sox can. Call me a "homer", call me a fool, I don't care. But I came into this season believing this team could make the playoffs, and it's not far off. What they do with this chance, who knows. But I still feel this collection of castoffs will do well. How well who knows. But count me in as one who still believes. The bigger question may be, do they still believe?
  16. For Sept, Pods is hitting .362/.423/.468. Sure he sucks, sit him and play timo.
  17. QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 17, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Well, if the Sox play .500 ball, then the Indians would have to go 12-3 to tie the Sox and the Yankees 13-3. Thanks Beck. I feel much better now. Life is much easier to breathe... should this have been in Green?
  18. The sox haven't been playing good ball lately. No one is denying this. Yet besides the Indians, no one else is lighting it up either this month. Here are the records this month for the playoff contenders: Cle--11-3 NYY 9-5 Sox 9-6 Bos 9-7 LAA 8-7 Oak 6-9 As far as worrying about Cle? If the sox keep up their pace of .600 ball, the sox could go 9-7 the rest of the season. That'll give them a 98-64 record. For Cle. to just tie the sox, they'd have to go 13-2. That's a tough thing to do. But hats off to them if they could pull it off. Also, the NYY's would have to go 14-2 to tie the sox for the wild card. The AL pennant is up for grabs this year. All the sox need is a ticket to the playoff party to have a chance at the world series. Since the sox won't have to play Cle the first round, they'll likely face another team that has been playing .600 ball like themselves. Go Sox! Stay healthy!
  19. what a bunch of whiners around here. If I weren't stuck baby sitting my teenage son and his girlfriend I wouldn't be anywhere near this game thread. But the play by play is much appreciated thanks
  20. The sox don't have to worry about the indians. they just need to take care of their own business. And business #1 is beating the twins at least 2 out of 3

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) How can anyone not feel good about a 17 game season and being given a 4.5 game head start, and playing your closest competitor 6 times? This is sooo awesome There isn't a fan on this board that wouldn't have gladly taken this position leaving Spring Training. How about a season where we were in 1st Place the entire time? Starting All-Star Pitcher? Voting in Pods? Possible Rookie of the Year? Soxtalk poster BMAC3520 achieving a career goal. Best record in the AL. It's a new season starting today. I'm going to enjoy every last moment. Get your recorders going. It's the home stretch and it's going to be fun. Well said. After looking at all the b****ing [and not getting much out of it] its good to see someone being practical and positive. My hats off to you In reality, though, the Sox have a 5.5 game head start with 17 to play [as Cle. is 1 game up in the wild card]. Though backing into the playoffs vai the wildcard wouldn't be ideal. It would still get them a a 1 in 4 chance to make the world series
  22. That about sums up how the sox have played as of late--it's a good team that's forgotten how to play great.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) I actually want to keep JC because I think he has the best potential. I agree. JC has a lot of upside
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) He was a big game winner a few years ago when he had a lot better stuff and was healthier. That's like saying that Frank Thomas is one of the best hitters in baseball (to use Jason's argument). Yes, a choke job wouldn't be solely based on Duque, but he would have played a huge role in the poor 2nd half. IMO, you still let the veteran pitcher try and work out the kinks. S olong as he's healthy, chances are he'll correct himself. The postseason is the key. The sox still have to get there. But success in the playoffs is what the sox are looking for. Having a big game pitcher, who has thrived under those extreme pressure situations, and throwing him under the bus, without giving him every chance to succeed [though I think the sox are getting close to exhausting their patience w/ him] isn't wise. The sox don't have a roster loaded w/ players with such important playoff experience where they can toss aside a guy like El Duque. I love Bmac. But seriously, will he do better playing in front of a packed house on the road? It's hard to see. el duque will be needed by the sox
  25. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) I didnt say I wanted ot trade JC, this was in reaction to the previous post mentioning the theory, I was reacting in the same mindset. Jeez, what happened to people reading threads and not the msot recent post :banghead :banghead :banghead maybe because people don't have time to spend all day looking at every post of every thread And you seemed to like the idea of trading JC, since you put Bmac and Washburn in the 4 and 5 spots. Correct?
