POLL:Gordo, is he breaking out of that season long slump?
JohnCangelosi replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) In all honesty, Gordon was the victim of his own early success. He flew through the minors at least half a year too quickly....and never learned how to deal with failure and/or make adjustments. After they adjusted to him in the second half of 2009 and first half of 2010, he readjusted. In the midst of all those adjustments...his bad habits with that hitch in his swing (down, back and around) just made it harder and harder for him to catch up with fastballs. He's obviously still got a lot of talent. Seems like he'll figure it out sooner or later. And Rios, nobody in TOR could get anything out of him for the last 18 months of his contract there....and Walker did manage to get a great first half out of Rios in 2010, I find it hard to blame Walker for either Rios or Dunn. Both of those moves are 100% on KW. Indeed it is on KW ultimately. However, we certainly couldn't do anything worse with a new batting coach could we? As they don't matter anyways as most of the Greg Walker defenders use as their argument to keep him around for life? Maybe just a change would prove to get something register with Rios and Dunn. They both have the talent. We won't make it to the post season without both of them producing. I love how the Walker defenders talk about how much work he is putting in with these guys. As an owner of my own company for 12 years, I can tell you some of the best employees I got work only 4-6 hours a day. But they get it done and deliver their numbers, which is all that matters. Simultaneously I have people working 12-14 hrs a day producing less than desirable results and after a while, are on their way out. Think about it- the fact that he is spending 15 hrs a day with these guys producing garbage results is almost more embarrassing when you think about it... -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 08:20 AM) That's how you can tell if anyone is listening to Walker. If they are hitting, they obviously are not. If they are in a slump, they hang on to his every word and do exactly as he says. If people that aren't around the team can figure that out so easily how is it the people associated with the team cannot? I just can't figure it out. Greg Walker obviously knows less about hitting than a typical 8 year old. Greg Walker's record speaks for itself. /conversation -

I pray that he doesn't listen to Walker the rest of the way and just rolls with it like he did in 2009 with that natural instinctive swing. If he does it would not surprise me to see him get to .280 or so. I still want to see more bullets hit off his bat as I swear he hit more balls hard in his last 75 games in 2009 than he has in 214 games he's played in since -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Didn't realize Bruney was averaging 7 walks per 9 IP (through) 2009 in the majors. Everything is UP, UP, UP with Bruney. Always, it seems. I personally don't see the love affair that Ozzie has with him, but that's just me. He has gotten some big outs for us at least. -

Rios is probably more unpopular than JP because of the fact we know we are stuck with him for several more years at the tune of $43 M -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Even when it looks like he hits a foul ball hard, it's still a very slow roller. Is he swinging a yellow wiffle ball bat that's painted black? He just kills this team with his lack of productivity. This is what I am saying! He is hitting absolutely NOTHING HARD since he has moved to the new hand position. Time to move on and try something else!!!! -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Screw it, let him try every style from Julio Franco's to Mickey Tettleton's. Until he gets better plate coverage, he's not going to hit anything hard with consistency. One thing is certain ever since he's changed to this position he is hitting almost NOTHING hard. At least at the start of the year he was hitting some balls hard. The bottom line is we need a hitting coach to get him, Becks and Dunn "right" again as they have too much talent to be playing so poorly -

I really think that Rios should go BACK to his old stance and hand position as awful as it was technically speaking. In the first half last year no one in the league hit the ball harder with more consistency than Rios, and we need to just let his athleticism do the work again and get Walker out of his head. -

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:06 PM) If that's really the case...there's a big problem down there. Seriously...unexceptable!!! That was 100% the case, I saw it with my own eyes on TV after the final out. These guys don't care, they still get paid. We shouldn't be so naive to think this team really cares, their checks still come on the 1st and the 15th. And you know thats all Ozzie cares about since that's all the clown talks about 90% of the time. The whole act is getting old, and changes need to be made where we can start to become respectable again. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) Another embarrassing matchup against the Twins. I love the disgust in Stone's voice when he's describing these scrub relief pitchers out there for Minnesota. We need to lose these next two games. Nothing may happen, but if there ever was a moment to push change (ANY change) it'd be then; right before the ASB. I don't see any changes being made, unfortunately, even after the inevitable sweep that will occur by the end of the weekend. Greg Walker has a job for life. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) It is amazing to me how hard Pirates are playing. I wish we could get the Sox to play half as hard. The day game that I was at against the Royals was by far the most apathetic effort I've ever seen out of a baseball team in my 20 years of watching baseball. -
QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 06:20 PM) I'm f***ing glad that Greg Walker is there at 8 am every day, I'm sure he and Pierre take turns picking up the donuts for everyone, but just because you're there early and work harder than everyone else doesn't make FAILURE disappear. In fact, it makes you look worse. The proof is in the pudding with this offense, it speaks for itself. Walker needs to go.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 06:35 PM) My sympathies, sir. You can PM me if you'd like, but I haven't been to the Cell in a while. I just wondered if you could go through the entire experience of a game at the Cell today. How much you spent? What you ate? Drank? I'd like to know how much it cost you to watch that s***. To see a game that bad, was it still an enjoyable experience to be at the game? Or was it horrible? If you got your tickets for free, put what the tickets should have cost into your summary. Thank u. -- I agree they play like they don't care. I think it's from seeing Dunn be so bad and Rios be so bad. It's kind of contagious. You'd think one of our pitchers would kick some ass and speak up. Oh wait, one of 'em tried. I applaud Jake for at least trying. I paid $82 for two tickets (sec 124 row 20) on stubhub and another $100 with parking, booze and dogs. Took my Dad out there as he's getting older and I know he won't be around forever. So the social aspect was nice, but watching your team get beat down by the Royals on another lackluster performance was painful to watch. It was awful to see them just go through the motions out there, there was no fire, no passion, nothing. If it's not obvious by now our offense needs an injection then I must be living in the twilight zone. This pigheaded act by the entire organization needs to go. I am literally sick to be a White Sox fan now, watching this BS day in and day out with no accountability or effort to make the obvious changes to make us better. All In my ass.

I was at the game today, made it a point to go to one while I am in the states. This was the most uninspiring and lackluster performance I've ever seen out of a baseball team, ever. These guys don't even care. And I know nothing will change in terms of making any changes, which is absolutely pathetic, and hardly "ALL IN".

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 07:14 PM) Flipper down left field line to win a game vs Angels. The funny thing is that there's a puzzle of US Cellular that they sell that is from this game. That actually was on Memorial Day of 2005, not July 4, IIRC. I was there in the scout seats that day. But nevertheless, maybe, maybe, maybe this could be the breakout of Adam Dunn, but I am not holding my breath.

I'm not sure if it was mentioned or not but I remember this Lopez guy dominating us when he was with the Orioles. Perhaps I'm not remembering it correctly but it seems we can never hit any guy who has any type of hiccup in his motion....so I am not sure what Hawk is talking about saying he expected us to get to him today- I certainly didn't... -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) So I'm out of town and missed this whole game. Boxscore says Humber went 7 innings, and Thornton went 1 2/3. So who recorded the last out? Did Thornton actually go 2 IP? Did the Cubs somehow get an automatic out somewhere? MT went 2 innings strong. 6 up 6 down I believe.

Great job Humber! Ozzie should know by now that he seems to lose it a bit in the 7th- let's get some guys up in the 'pen. And I love how accurate Morel is with his throws to 1B. I just wish he was the same to 2B.... -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Juan Pierre showed today why he's not a DFA candidate. If we want to play Dayan every day in left, fine, but we're going to have to trade Juan, not release him. I'd still DFA him tomorrow. No one is going to take a 0 tool player at his salary, and even if we covered the salary, I can't see many takers. Unfortunately the last two games for him means he will most likely get a free pass for another month or two.
