Sox versus Twins 12:10 pm Afternoon Delight
JohnCangelosi replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2011 Season in Review
I have to admit, the demon inside of me was hoping Omar would have gotten on base there just so JP could weakly ground out to 2B to complete a typical 0 for 5 day. f*** YOU OZZIE! -

I just logged on here and I have to say that Pierre bunt was hilarious. It actually was a decent bunt (not great) and he was thrown out by like 3 steps. LOL. f*** YOU OZZIE! -

QUOTE (lord chas @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) ozzie just letting lilly rot on the bench? Apparently so. I was really hoping to see Lillibridge in LF leading off today. It's Mark Kotsay all over again. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 08:59 AM) Pierre - LF Ramirez - SS Quentin - RF Konerko - 1B Pierzynski - C Rios - CF Dunn - DH Beckham - 2B Morel - 3B Buehrle – LHP F**K you Ozzie -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) My thoughts exactly. There is no debacle. Where is that vote? Please put comments like these in green so they are not misinterpreted

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) A roster spot? I have no problem with that. There is a market for 4th OFs with some speed. I just wish we had another guy who could hit leadoff to get him out of the line up. Maybe we should do another poll on whether or not Juan Pierre would clear waivers?
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Where is Option C: I blame neither because Juan Pierre deserves a spot on the roster? Some people think that, can they get a voting option as well? That was meant to be green right? I don't think anyone believes he deserves a roster spot on this board. And regarding the guys b****ing about another Pierre thread, take your skirts off and deal with it. This is another angle that needs to be discussed as now it appears, if any of you were paying attention, that KW is now putting the whole debacle of Juan Pierre on Ozzie indirectly but publicly. Did you miss that? This is the kind of thing that could brew into a HUGE sh*t storm and it hasn't even been slightly talked about here. With the exception of Fathom's post, no one saw it, out of all of the posts regarding the recent Viciedo article that is now 10 pages long.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) Who do you blame more for Juan Pierre STILL being on this ballclub in mid June? And why? I say Kenny, as he MUST know that JP sucks, but is unwilling to rock the boat with Ozzie and create another rift which will be in the media by DFA'ing his darling Juan Pierre. We all know Ozzie should never make personnel decisions as he's proved how smart he is with Kotsay > Thome, Owens > Quentin, Juan > Viciedo. Etc etc...

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) I know you guys don't want to hear this but Juan isn't going anywhere and Dayan will not be replacing him anytime soon. Who do you blame more for this? Ozzie or KW? For me, as stupid as Ozzie is for still believing in Juan Pierre, who has clearly lost all ability to play baseball, this is on Kenny Williams. KW has to know that JP is worthless, he is not a dumb guy. However, I don't think he has the balls to do the right thing for fear of the consequences in terms of the relationship with Ozzie. One word: Pathetic. -
Jake Peavy willing to go to the bullpen

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:20 AM) QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) * I just hope this isn't an admission from Jake that he himself isn't sure he can stay healthy as a starter... Yep, this is what was kinda hinted at yesterday. You said it perfectly here. I am probably the biggest conspiracy theorist on this board but even for me this seems to be a reach...but again maybe my optimism is clouding my view... -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Of course, I'm of the opinion that in the long run this year, we're a better team without Jake Peavy on the roster. I don't disagree with you often but wholeheartedly disagree here. We have no "ace" without the REAL JFP on the mound this year. My guess your thinking is we'd be better off knowing he won't be here so we can just focus on business at hand rather than consistently talk about when he's going to be back from the DL time and time again? -
Peavy to DL, Harrell back to Chicago

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 04:39 PM) MRI showed no fluid in the groin. He should be fine. also...... Peavy said he'll volunteer for any role when he returns - even bullpen Will make a minor league start thursday or Friday, and should be back next week after the AZ series. We need him to be the Ace that he can be and move Jackson to the Pen, as we need someone to help out Sergio, MT and Crain. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) A closer is supposed to lose some games for you. Santos is really young and raw and has a wonderful attitude. He'd been getting the job done up until Oakland as opposed to Thornton who blew chunks immediately. I'm more than willing to give Santos some rope here as he has the potential to be a really, really good closer. He's a good story all around. Well at least we have Crain and Thornton who can go back into the spot if necessary, but we should leave Santos in there for now. Even though I have never believed Thornton is a closer, I am "ok" with giving him a few opportunities to do it here and there to give Santos the night when he needs rest. If we can get Peavy back and put Jackson into the Pen this team becomes stronger in the back and it would be overall a better thing moving forward in my opinion.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) It will be interesting and fun when Viciedo comes up. But, some folks aren't l;ooking at the reality of making the line up. KW likes Rios in CF. Lillibridge can play all three OF positions plus 2B and I am guessing SS and 3B when needed in a pinch. Pierre gets traded is a possibility, but we still have a need for the lead off hitter. You can't have Viciedo, Lilli, Rios and Quentin all in the OF lineup at the same time. They might rotate. Time will tell I'm in the department of rotating Lillibridge from 3B, to 2B to OF consistently to give Morel, Beckham and Rios days off (yes I know, Lillibridge has never played 3B, but could he be as bad as Teahen? Doubtful. My guess is he would impress, as he has with his outfield play. This way he will get more AB's and we can play Tank in LF or RF daily and DFA Pierre. Done and done! -
All of this said, I rarely trust anything that comes from our government today. Just like when Bush lied to everyone regarding WMD's or when Obama said he'd end the wars. They're all the same, both democrats and republicans- complete liars. So I hardly believe anything they say, including when they say Chavez is a bad guy. More likely than not we want the oil in Venezuela and Chavez ain't working with us, but it's just a theory. Anyone interested in an alternative read and viewpoint should read "confessions of an economic hitman"- good stuff and will give you a new perspective on how the world works that CNN or Fox News will never tell you.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) In my opinion, this article was Kenny's way of saying that he wants Viciedo playing in LF but Ozzie wants Pierre instead. Just like last year, it's his way of putting Ozzie in the spotlight. FINALLY someone reads between the lines here. The most indicative quote here by KW is: "I'm not going to bring him here to sit. [White Sox manager] Ozzie [Guillen] is not ready to change the mix he has right now, and that has to be respected." Of course, as I have been saying for a few months, KW needs to grow a pair and DFA Pierre today and quit worrying about Ozzie's reaction so much. I really think KW is worried that making this move would rock the boat and create the type of relationship they've had in the past and he doesn't want to go there. But it's time to do whats right for the team and quit worrying if Ozzie's p*ssy will hurt when KW makes this decision. If anything is obvious, it's the fact that Ozzie should NOT be making decisions on who should be on the roster. He's already proved he has no clue by wanting Kotsay over Thome, Owens over Quentin, JP over Dayan, etc. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) The only hope is to root for Sox wins while Pierre goes 0-5 Precisely. And I am really rooting hard for that. How could our management be so stupid, really??? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Hawk seemed really annoyed with Pierre's pop up there. Was just about to say the same thing. It's ABOUT TIME these moron's realize what the majority of this board has been saying about JP since April. Ozzie is such a damn fool it's going to take 2 more months of this garbage play from JP for him to get it. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) Nope. Its funny. The boyfriends were yapping the whole game back and forth (one Cubs fan, one Sox fan). It wasn't anything that anyone cared about, just the usual s*** talking, mixed liberally with plenty of drinking. (remember this is before the drinking rules got pretty strict pre-idiots running on the field). Then one of the girlfriends jumped in and said something back to one of the guys to which the other girlfriend got pissed off and said something back to her. The first chick comes flying down the aisle after the other one, and it was on. They went at it for a solid few minutes before security got mustered to get up there and break it up. It was bad enough that the Sox players were on the top step of the dugout, looking back up the upper deck to watch it. (it was on the 3b side of the upper deck by a couple of sections) I vaguely recall this happening, but I was on the first level under the overhang along the first baseline, so I couldn't see it IIRC. Frustrating.

Unless Juan Pierre was positioned against the wall on the warning track there is NO EXCUSE for him not getting to that ball. He got a bad jump, and then proceeded to miss the ball primarily because he was concerned that he was going to collide with Morel. Of course, if JP was a real player Morel wouldn't have to think about covering LF as well as 3B, and get in the way to begin with. The ball was in the air for an eternity and JP, ONCE AGAIN, was running scared looking around for help when he is the ONLY guy that can make that play. It's so embarrassing to see Ozzie march him out there everyday. We have a joke of a manager and a gutless GM who HAS to know that JP sucks but doesn't want to rock the boat by DFA'ing him. Period.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) He's done a phenomenal job of not over-reacting like a bunch of nut jobs here and staying calm and as a result the players responded. Ozzie has a tremendous ability to try and put his players in the best chance to succeed. That might not be in-game managing but it is an art that he has managed exceptionally, well, imo. And I know someone will now make a bunch of posts about how Kotsay being DH was a position he couldn't excel at, but by and large, Ozzie has done that and you'll hear a lot of his current and former players allude to that. Ozzie understands how up and down the game of baseball is and he isn't going to overreact to things too often. I have problems with some of his ridiculous comments and some of the things he does, but by and large, he's a good manager. The question to me is at some point, players tune guys out or maybe just need to hear another voice, and when that type comes, it comes. It will happen to pretty much every mgr and coach. The only good thing I can say about Ozzie is that it appears he controls the clubhouse and runs the show. I think the guys generally respect him and like playing for him. In terms of his pig headed attitude with JP this year and in 2010 with Kotsay, it's the ultimate display of ignorance and overconfidence you'll probably ever see out of a manager. And his in game decisions are sub par at best and most likely amongst the worst in the league (but there is no stat for this nor do I watch other managers often, so take that with a grain of salt)

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) Its hard to believe because barring injury (which is possible here I suppose), people's speed doesn't fall off a cliff. It goes down gradually. But as I pointed out, it doesn't need to fall of a cliff for his effectiveness to have a big drop. The JP I've seen this year HAS without a doubt lost a step. There was a sacrifice bunt he laid down this year that I recall that was a good one, and normally would have been a VERY close play at 1st base. Instead he was out by a step and a half. This is just an example of him losing a step this year. To know that he's going to play everyday the rest of the way out is like living through the whole Kotsay debacle in 2010 for me. Mercy.

QUOTE (StatManDu @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) THE WHITE SOX-FARMER-HARRELSON-DEBUT CONNECTION 1971: The White Sox lost to the Indians 3-1 in Cleveland with Ed Farmer earning the save in his big league debut for the Indians. Farmer nailed down the win for Cleveland by fanning Tom Egan, the only man he faced. Farmer made his debut against the White Sox exactly eight years to the day that future fellow White Sox broadcaster Ken Harrelson did the same. In another coincidence, Harrelson was the Indians’ starting left fielder but was not in the game when Farmer closed it out. A BIG DAY FOR SECOND BASEMAN SANTO 1974: Ron Santo, starting at second base, hit two homers – including an inside-the-park home run -- in the White Sox 10-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox before 16,678 at Comiskey Park. The multi-homer game, the 26th and last of his career, came a day after Santo hit a grand slam. The former Cub would hit just one more homer for the Sox the rest of the season. HELLO, HANK 1975: Hank Aaron made his Comiskey Park debut as the Brewers’ designated hitter in a White Sox 1-0 loss. 4,949 on the Southside witnessed Aaron’s 1-for-3 performance. Aaron’s hit was an eighth-inning single off Rich Gossage. WIN TOTAL FOR THE STARTERS? 605! 1986: In a battle of one 300-game winner and a future 300-game winner, California’s Don Sutton picked up his 299th career win by outdueling the White Sox and 306-game winner Tom Seaver 3-0 before 19,611 at Comiskey Park. Sutton’s gem ended the White Sox four-game winning streak. A 14TH INNING STRETCH AND A VICTORY 2000: Ray Durham’s single off Daniel Garibay scored Herbert Perry with the winning run as the White Sox topped the Cubs 6-5 in 14 innings before 44,140 at Comiskey Park. Sammy Sosa’s two-run homer in the ninth forced extra innings but Bill Simas and Jesus Pena combined to hold the Cubs hitless over the final five innings with Pena earning his first career victory. BTW, some of these items appear on the LF scoreboard as the White Sox Almanac during home games I was at that game in 2000. Wow- 11 years ago! IIRC Durham's hit was from the right side and down the 3rd base line.
