QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 02:53 AM) This is totally fair. After the last few years, KW will have to win multiple trades before he can be trusted in that capacity again. But I'd rather take my chances with that than to rely on this organization and draft picks. Yes, a catch 22 of sorts.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 14, 2011 -> 12:09 AM) Multiple blue-chip prospects. Or at least KW shouldn't settle for anything less. That said, he's not going anywhere at the moment. And I think it's nuts to act as if this rotation is legitimately six deep. Humber has been a great story so far. But would you really feel confident in trading any starter, let alone your best starter in Danks, because Humber has pitched well for a month? And then Peavy will be a start-by-start risk for the rest of his career. After the Swisher and Javy trades I have no trust KW will get anything decent in return for Danks, I'd rather opt for the draft picks after 2012

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 12, 2011 -> 05:13 AM) It appears as though Viciedo has completely recovered from his broken thumb, and has resumed the hot hitting he displayed last year when he was called up, and this year in Spring Training. The problem is how to get him in the lineup. Here's my suggestion: Put him in the outfield, probably in right because of his arm. Move Quentin back to LF. Sit Pierre Now, the team needs a lead off man. One solution would be to give Lillibridge a shot at 3RD Base. Morel hasn't shown much, and his defense has not been as advertized. Lillibridge has played really well, going back to last September, and deserves a shot at some more playing time. He'd probably be at least as good at leading off as Pierre has been, and he's arguably a better all around player. So, why not substitue one Brent for another at 3Rd? The lineup could really be scarey if you add Viciedo, and get the rest of the guys performing up to their normal level. 3RD Lillibridge SS Ramirez LF Quentin DH Dunn 1B Konerko RF Viciedo C A. J. CF Rios 2B Beckham If Beckham and Rios start hitting, they could be moved up in the order. If Beckham doesn't start hitting, Vizquel should be given playing time at Second, and place in the number 2 hole, where he is at his best offensively. I like this idea and most certainly, it CANNOT get worse than JP in our order. How pathetic that it will likely take 2 more months of dropped fly balls and horrible base running for Ozzie most likely to get it. Prove me wrong Ozzie! If Lilli doesn't work out at 3B, put Becks back there and Lilli at 2B as Becks played just fine in 2009 at 3B. And of course he had his best year there (103 games) in a White Sox Uniform.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 12, 2011 -> 01:59 AM) No, definitely not play of the year, and maybe not even play of the week with Betancourt's slick flip a couple days ago (although his was a little unnecessary). Thornton looked like a 3 legged dog running to 1B, but he made a nice barehanded grab. Not play of the year material, although the timing of it certainly gives it a few more bonus points IMO

Heyman "Count on" Danks filling for free agency

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) I got what you were going for, and it was perfect. If someone mentioned a team roaring back in the second half to win their division and then getting swept out of the playoffs, without mentioning a team name, I would have to think the Twins would be the first team on everyone's mind. I hear ya but if we can get to a few games over .500 by the AS break we still have a chance. Yes, very optimistic, I know. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2011 -> 05:47 AM) This Wednesday against the Angels. That's exciting. Pena to the DL you think?

Bataan Death March, err, Sox West Annual Coast Road Trip

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2011 -> 05:50 AM) I actually think as long as we're within 7-8 games of the division lead at the ASB that this team won't be torn apart. Unless there are still 3-4 teams between us and first place. That would make the odds even more difficult to overcome. Does anyone know our record in Oakland since 2001? -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 8, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) Just saw Thor at the movies... and it was awesome. When did Peavy have time to make a cameo in the film? It was pretty cool Is there a set date for his return yet? I've heard the 11th?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2011 -> 01:22 AM) 2-1 so far. Pretty safe to predict 2-4 (4-5) or 3-3 (5-4) for the next six games, especially considering that we're missing Haren, Weaver, Anderson and Gio. The only question is which direction this whole thing goes if we muddle along? We have another hellacious stretch of teams to play at home after the team returns back home to Chicago. Could easily have been 3-0, but I guess we have to build upon something, which is our first series victory (tied KC and NYY) since we beat Cleveland and Tampa Bay in the first 10 days of the season. Amazingly, Cleveland hasn't lost a single home game at Jacobs since those first two. Why not 6-0 the rest of the way? Seems the West Coast owes us some victories, especially in Oakland. In my opinion we need to get hot quickly and at minimum get 5 or so games above .500 by the all star break otherwise it's firesale time. I know, very optimistic, and given our history in Oakland, it's going to be ugly. Aren't we something like 5-30 there since 2001? -
Gordo is still a franchise player if he can get out of his own way. I worry, however, that Walker is doing more harm than good in this capacity (I have no proof of this of course outside of his pathetic BA over the past 1.5 yrs under him)

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) That a boy Brent! This is a crazy, crazy game. Amazing he actually turned on a ball. Haven't seen that all year I think.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) Beckham's having a great defensive year. Also, regardless of what Ozzie says, no doubt in my mind he has the best baseball IQ of our starting players. Agreed. I just wish he got his head out of his ass and just swung the bat freely. No thinking, nothing. Just get up there and swing, just like he did in 2009, when he was, in my mind, the closest thing we ever had to Frank Thomas coming through our system. He was just awesome. On another note, I believe Alex Rios is waking up. Hopefully its not too late.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Uh we did win WWII... LOL, yes, but I wouldn't have wanted to be one of those brave souls who had to storm that beach! Talk about bloodshed, mercy...that's how I feel going into this West Coast trip. It can and will get worse... -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) I want and expect a firing before Seattle series begins no excuses. There won't be. No action, nothing. This team sucks and this organization sucks and the fact we HAVE to bat Oldmar and JP for the final two outs when the game is on the line is a joke. We're like 19 yr old soldiers storming Omaha Beach headed into our West Coast trip, this is going to get real ugly. -

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 4, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) Have any of the announcers said something along the lines of tipping our caps yet? We gotta go with the matchups here and bring in Morel to PH /green -
1994 only because it was the first time in being a fan where I thought it was "their year", and the strike killed me, I didn't watch much baseball for about 4 years.

You HAVE to PH for Morel right? I guess Omar is the only option? -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) My prediction is Morel doesn't make the road trip, as he'll be flying to Charlotte. We can only hope, and he's replaced with Dayan. He looks like he's just trying to make contact out there, nothing more... -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 2, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) THANK YOU! While I still think it's too early to pack it in, I loved reading every word of that article. Is tonight a must win? LOL, seems that way to me, as crazy at it sounds

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 1, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) So you want them coached out of slumps, but to not get in the way of existing talent. Got it. Ideally I'd like our hitting coach to be able to help our players get out of a slump quicker than 7 weeks, but I'm pretty sure someone offering NO advice would be FAR better than anything that comes out of Walker's mouth. His record speaks for itself. I'm assuming you're watching the same offense as me right? I mean, the results are laid out all nicely gift wrapped for you to see. I ask because in your world we're really playing our tails off out there, you can really see the fire and passion from this team day in and day out and we're just not getting any breaks.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 1, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) Players should be booed when their play warrants it. Sorry, Thornton made his pitches and got unlucky and anyone who booed him is a baseball retard. And with regards to Beckham, who even knows how coachable he is! I know that sounds like a cop-out, but we as fans just don't know. Walker could be giving Beckham tips to hit 60+ homers a year and Beckham could be like "nope screw you." (for the record I'm not saying that's what is happening, my point rather is that as fans we don't know what really happens behind the scenes) With Rios, I think his toe is still bothering him. Sorry I don't look for scape goats in coaches. If firing the hitting coach actually worked, teams would do it when every slump happened. They don't. But I'm sure someone is making me list of the best hitting coaches ever. Yep, any day now. How about any hitting coach who doesn't get in the way of the existing talent on the team and doesn't make them about 3x WORSE than they actually are?!?!?! I'm pretty damn sure Dustin Hoffman in Rainman could do a better job, as at least he wouldn't get in the way.
-
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 1, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) This post sucks. So you're saying Thornton should be booed because he made his pitches? Then you throw out the "competitive juices" nonsense where you offer no proof the White Sox are not playing their hardest. THEN you want to blame somebody else for Beckham not getting the job done? The finally you project Beckhams stats if someone else was the hitting coach, yet you cannot name a someone else that would do a better job. If hitting coaches mattered they'd go to the hall of fame. Hell if they mattered you could give me a list of the 5 best hitting coaches of all time. But neither is the case. If you think they're playing hard then you're watching a different game than I've been for the past 2 weeks, they are playing like they want Ozzie fired. A perfect example of this is Teahen who couldn't grab the hard hit ball down the line last night (not an easy play) and pouted for a bit, quit on the play, and then wasn't ready for Alexei's peg that would have easily gotten the guy out at 3rd. Sure Thornton had tough luck last night and this year for that matter, but in case you didn't notice, he's also sucked. I have no problem booing him off the field, he should be able to handle it, consider it a cumulative boo for all the times he's blown games and didn't get booed. And regarding Beckham, it's the hitting coaches job to get players with talent to shorten those slumps from 3 weeks down to one by offering swing thoughts that can get them back into place. Of course it's up to the player at the end of the day, but no way should MLB talents like Beckham and Rios be hitting in the .100's before game action on May 1. That's on Walker son....on any other team I hardly doubt you see so many people struggle at the plate at once. But I'm sure your affection for your team and Greg Walker won't allow you to see it that way, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) Hey Ozzie, you are f***ing terrible. You have a righty sinker baller on the mound...and you keep your best low ball hitter on the bench. You deserve to get fired. I agree 100%. Despite Dunn's struggles it's pathetic we have Rios backing up PK. Johnson hardly gave anything to hit to PK because he knew who was on deck. Sick.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 1, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) No. Damnit. I did get a couple numbers. But even if I had hit a HR I would've been too drunk to do anything. I had at least a dozen MGDs. Every time JP came to bat I would down a beer in like 20 seconds. Well unlike JP maybe you can do something with those numbers later. I'm back in Chicago in a month and hope to enjoy a Sox game with a beer in hand where they're actually playing for something...

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 1, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) Greg Walker didn't teach Beckham how to hit. If it were so easy or there were guys who made .194 hitters .330 hitters, hitting coaches would be the highest paid employees on baseball teams. You are being beyond naive if you think Greg Walker is costing Gordon Beckham 130 points of batting average. I don't think that the entire league has "figured out" Gordo or found a way to exploit his approach. If you think the league has found something please point it out because I haven't seen anything special they are doing against him. He's getting started way too late and fouling off every good pitch to the right, just a hair late every time. Walker needs to be held accountable for the prolonged slumps of our hitters and figure out a way to get them right again much, much quicker. And it's not only April when we don't hit, it's also September as well let's not forget under Walk and I've had enough of it.
