Sale's going to need to work through his problems up here unless you guys think we have something better in the minors. Which, I am sure we probably don't knowing how light our farm system is.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 22, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) Rain rain please come. I'd rather not have to worry about the bullpen somehow blowing this lead. No way do they call the game immediately though.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 22, 2011 -> 05:47 AM) Adam Dunn is a f***ing square, so you should probably "shape" him up and get him into the proper "form" so he can do his normal home run stuff. Perhaps that's a triangle or the even more rare heptagon. Oh, and if you think Dunn even "might" be the worst offensive player in baseball, I would also "guess" that you haven't been "watching" the Chicago "White" Sox play baseball because "Juan" Pierre has been the worst "offensive" player in the "entire" game. He "is" so f***ing bad that "I" would be a better "player" than he would "be" by standing at the plate and going all "Eddie" Gaedel.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) If Jenks had a LF who couldnt' catch the ball, it'd have looked a lot like what Thornton did to start this season. Agreed MT had some bad luck out there, but he wasn't exactly making his pitches either. I wonder what Redsox fans think about Bobby right now, it cannot be good
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) Apparently he's no longer a setup man either. Well, it was a concern of mine moving him to closer (because no one else had a good ST) that we would lose the best setup guy in the game and possibly have one of the worst closers, and that is what has happened. I do believe, however, he will emerge again this year as a top setup guy.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2011 -> 06:55 PM) Hell no figuratively speaking. I won't take the bait and list the reasons I liked Bobby. Though I do take offense to you saying I'd do that to a male physically. I am not gay, though I won't condemn those who are. LOL- I will tell you this- there were many times to start this season, in close games, I REALLY missed Bobby. Despite his struggles (and now DL) with the RedSox the guy was generally automatic for us even though his last few years weren't 1-2-3 in the ninth. Last year it hit an all time low when we blew that 6-3 lead in the 9th against the Twins with Bobby, but I actually still miss the guy and wish he was on our club (and I realize I am in the minority here)

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 21, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) Excellent post. What's also interesting is that none of these arm chair managers are consistently watching other managers go through 162 games. They have nothing to compare Ozzie to anyway which makes it even more absurd. Let's take the Thornton example since it's cost us the most games. Thornton wanted to close, waited in the wings for years and earned it, and completely crapped himself out there. What's Ozzie supposed to do? He put his best guy in the toughest situation. You can argue he should have stopped putting Thornton out there after 2 BS but what kind of confidence does that instill in your other players, giving up on them quickly if they fail? Hogwash. I'm sure Ozzie is running out of rope for JP and a decision will be made soon. But he's giving a proven player (even though what's proven irks many of us) a chance to right the ship. I love that. Same with Beckham. He's giving them the chance to overcome because we become a better team if they do. That's all you can ask of Oz. Exhaust all options with the player before giving up on them. It's not his fault the players are sucking. It was Ozzie's job to realize that Thornton is NOT a closer. A lot of us knew that LAST year when he had to fill in for Jenks. He just never looked comfortable in the role and this year it has born itself out. Secondly, Ozzie will go ALL YEAR with JP no matter what. Why? Because he's a f*cking idiot. All you have to do is look 2010 and Kotsay for proof of how stupid he is. Literally. The guy probably has a 56 IQ. But of course smarts aren't everything in managing. I like the fact that Ozzie is the boss, and I like his laid back attitude. I just wish he had someone that could THINK for him because it's evident the guy has very little brains when it comes to making tactical decisions. Third, Beckham is playing a non slugging position and still young, so you can have MUCH more patience with him than an aging Juan Pierre who costs us ball games day in and day out when we have a better player in AAA waiting to take his spot. Look at today's game, for example. Garland is throwing BP out there and Juan can't even get a pop up out of the infield- he's a little league ball player in MLB right now. Thankfully Alexei was able to bail him out. It's a friggin crime that this guy gets the most PA's for our team and at the same time is probably the worst player in MLB. Only on a team managed by Ozzie Guillen!

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Adam Dunn, but he doesn't get as many plate appearances. I don't agree his tactical decisions suck but I do realize I'm in the minority on this. I was in favor of canning Ozzie a few weeks ago BTW. Just because of our team's horrific start again. At some point things have to settle down with our team and be more consistent. LOL Touche regarding Dunn, it's a close call between him, Beckham and Rios

The lack of enthusiasm on this thread tells it all. Or did the end of the world happen in the USA today? I am not sure as I'm overseas.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 21, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) I think there's some jealousy of Ozzie. He's outspoken, rich and will be in baseball all his life. Many people think they are as smart as Ozzie baseball wise which is a joke. The man has been in the game a zillion years and knows baseball. Many of us would get fired immediately if we said some of the things Ozzie says and I think jealousy has set in with some Sox fans. Every team has stiffs like Juan Pierre that are still playing despite the fact fans hate him. It's easy to get mad when he picks the wrong reliever. Now Crain is the guy everybody wants in the setup role every night when the game is close. You have to use your entire roster and Ozzie is as qualified as anybody to make these decisions. My feeling is the real Ozzie haters don't blame the players as much as they should. Instead of saying Dunn is a worthless piece of s***, they blame Ozzie for batting him third. Guess what? He's on the roster and a slugger with a history of doing well. You bat him third or fourth. He has to produce. But he sucks, so blame Ozzie for batting him third. In my world, that's dumb. Anybody who picked that first choice is delusional. Or sorry I guess you people are smart enough to be baseball managers, you just didn't pursue that career path. Please name ONE player who is worse than Juan Pierre who not only starts but gets the most PA's for his team in all of baseball. Ozzie may be a great personality and the boss, which you need in today's game, but his tactical decisions suck.

Can't we just start Lillibridge everyday already instead of Pierre??? Cmon Oz wake up

Nice to see Alexei pick up JP there

Juan is like a little leaguer, what a joke

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 20, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) I believe he has said that over his entire career, but after he was signed said he now just wants to win, and will play wherever. You got to wonder how much that is affecting his hitting, as it's been pretty ugly and we're now 2 months into the season. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2011 -> 06:25 PM) Lilly has nothing on his pitches. It's games like this I wish Viciedo was on the roster so Dunn can't continue his 0 for the season vs lefties. Didn't Dunn say last year he didn't want to DH at the trade deadline when all of those rumors were surrounding him? He better heat up soon otherwise he's just another guy to worry about (i.e. Rios, Beckham, etc) -
I saw a quote the other day about his struggles and him saying "everything in my life sucks now" and references by the team saying he was going through some "personal issues"... Anyone know what he was referring to? Is his hot wife cheating on him? :-)

How important is this 2 game series with CLE

QUOTE (3E8 @ May 20, 2011 -> 09:34 AM) Of games Indians have remaining that aren't against us, over 60% of them are against teams above .500. If a lot of their players don't continue to play ahead of their career averages, they will have a tough time holding on to first place. The Indians have some decent starting pitching but I don't see their offense carrying the load over there throughout the summer. This is our division to win- and if we don't KW and Ozzie should be gone. -
I will never forgive Ozzie for leaving in Linebrink against the Cubs at Wrigley field. I forget which year it was but we all knew it was the wrong decision and it cost us the game. We had a 5-1 lead going into the 8th and we could've thrown Thornton and Jenks at them and instead we gave them Liney, the Cubs scored 4 in the 8th and one in the 10th to win it as I recall.

QUOTE (gatnom @ May 20, 2011 -> 03:38 AM) I have five words for you: two, thousand, five, White, and Sox. I'm not saying; I'm just saying. There is this belief on this forum that everyone had a career year for the Sox in 2005. NONE of the position players with the exception of Pods had a career year in 2005. Maybe the bullpen, yes. But the truth is the Sox just had a pretty darn talented team that year, especially the starting staff, and I think a lot of people felt that way coming into the season, myself included. Maybe not some of the prognosticators, but what do they really know anyways? Bottom line is that was a damn talented team and I don't accept the fact it was just a fluke with a group of guys who just happened to all have a career year in the same season. -

Nice inning for Gavin there, seems he found the curve ball which is always key for him. -

The way Gavin has looked thus far this game is far from over. But good to finally see some bats and an actual Adam Dunn sighting was nice. -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 19, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) I'd package a starting pitcher and Gordon Beckham together and put them out there to see if any team is willing to give up some young talent. We'd be selling low on Beckham right now but I'm pretty close to losing faith in him ever doing anything significant under Walker. Personally I think the only thing we need to do now is DFA Pierre, Pena, and replace their roles with Humber and Dayan once we go away from a 6 man rotation. Doing that would make us so significantly better it's silly obvious.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 19, 2011 -> 10:09 AM) Not really. His was mostly chronic arm problems I thought. Plus there's the whole steroids rumor. Not a terrible comp but not the same thing IMO Prior's problem was the fact that his body broke down after he couldn't take roids any longer.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2011 -> 03:06 AM) CLE (2) LAD (3) AT TEXAS (3) AT TORONTO (4) AT BOSTON (3) DET (3) What is getting easy about that schedule? We've played horribly against Texas and Toronto the last half-decade...Cleveland's in first place and has the 2nd or 3rd best record in all of baseball, winning 1/3 in Boston is challenging enough and then we haven't beaten Detroit in months. I guess you must have meant 3 weeks from now when we finally get the Mariners at home. That's the first "easy" team in sight, and considering our home record, and that we'll probably face either Pineda or Felix, a sweep isn't something I'd be counting on. OPTIMISTICALLY, I'm HOPING they can be at 5 games below .500 after this aforementioned stretch of games. Indeed, traditionally this would look like a death trap, but so did heading out west for 9 days to Seattle, LA and Oakland and we managed to go 6-3 with our offense still generally sucking. So who knows, but yes after this stretch we don't have a hard stretch of games the rest of the year it appears, so keep the fingers crossed. No way can we do anything if Gordon, Rios, Pierre (since he'll never be pulled from the lineup) and Dunn continue to suck of course.
