Old Sox Drawer: 2023 Edition
I guess in another (alternative) universe at least $50 million of Benintendi's money went to Abreu instead...but we'd still have the same net result pretty much.

TA's theoretically coming back soon...but have you noted how bad Sosa and Romy have looked? They're pretty much forced to keep Andrus just to keep the entire infield from falling apart defensively. More pressure on the roster spots of those two as well as Colas right now, IMO. Rookies or near rookies always the first to be sacrificed by a "win now" manager in his first year on the job.

If on SpaceX, rocket might not even make it that far before exploding...but same end result.

Benintendi, Suzuki, Yoshida
McCann one of the few that actually improved... Narvaez as well. If only they could have been merged into one complete player!

Mark Johnson and Royce Clayton would be better at the bottom of the order than this...

Benintendi on pace for a crisp 0.8 fWAR.

Garbage
https://www.espn.com/mlb/attendance White Sox have surged to 21st in attendance simply by not playing at home. Four AL Central teams lined up within 500 fans per night at #21-24 and then the hapless Royals at #27. Yikes.

Which is why they are best positioned to win 85-88 games and take the divisuon ultimately...that statistic will almost always return to mean.

Garbage
If you go all the way back to Roberto Hernandez and Thigpen, the Sox have always excelled when they developed their own closers or found them on the cheap outside the organization. Koch Robertson and Hendriks are the three counter examples here. Arguably, the 2020 team was better off with the relatively cheap Colome... but the opportunity cost was Narvaez and that eventually led to overpaying for another aging veteran in Grandal. (Ofc, Zack Collins never developing as a #1 catcher was an equally egregious blunder.)

Not sure this year's team was ever highly rated... but your overall point remains perfectly valid.

Thought things in Cincy Oakland and KC were bad, but this is something else for a once-proud charter franchise of the American League.

Celtics did the same thing back in 80s... more for novelty's sake.

Benintendi, Suzuki, Yoshida
Yoshida 3/3 with a walk. Up to .265 now.

He easily could have spread the Benintendi money around like the Cubs wisely did.

Might as well give Colas another 4-6 weeks because he won't learn a thing in Charlotte.

Resignation time lol? TA7 as player/manager like Kessinger? TV ratings would go up at least.

Money was spent...but on Grandal Lynn Keuchel Benintendi and the bullpen, obviously Liam loss is hurting everyone. Meanwhile will keep shedding younger players like TA Giolito Cease Kopech etc. Just like Rodon, too... although wouldn't be much better off with him around now.
