GT 6/20: TOR @ SOX, 7:10, NBCSC

Hopefully not the work computer. One of the saddest things I ever saw was an old shop teacher caught for porn at work…they took him away and he thought holding onto the monitor and not “hard” drive would save him. -

Sure, if averages were consistent the first 5-7 years of a career compared to the last 2-3 in mid 30’s, with part of that average being speed-driven. -
Well, that would be just like the Sox to win the nickname war…we just need to move to Charlotte and draft 75% ACC/SEC players.

There will be a lot more homers tonight to come… -
They’d have to be the uncomfortable non-stretchy fabric of the 1983 throwbacks… It’s okay, we will just draft Joyce from UT to replace him. Who will then proceed into TJ line.
-
The difference is on the positional change from SS. And who would actually replace Anderson? They were never going to spend on Correa, Seager, Semien, Story or Baez. A certain SD shortstop had the same defensive problems last year, but his move to the outfield was more about preserving his health/shoulder.

Burger, Sheets, Jimenez and Grandal all best suited for DH. That doesn’t even count Abreu, Vaughn and Pollock…who’s at best an average LFer but arguably lower than that this year. -

But a team with Harrison/Mendick/Leury at third isn’t going anywhere, either. -

Just lazy/bad habits. And it should have been 2-1 Sox now, full two run swing against them. -

Burger can’t pick that misplayed ball up with the glove hand. He just needs a lot more repetitions down there…and to at least make the average difficulty plays. -

Still, playoff teams consistently advance and score runners with situational hitting… -

Wrong shift there. Robert with longest current hit streak, ten games, in the AL. Still needs to learn how to advance runners…that’s the one time you don’t pull the ball to the LH side. -
Old Sock Drawer, ex Sox player discussion
caulfield12 replied to elrockinMT's topic in The Diamond Club
And Nomar Mazara only 75 miles to the south...not too long ago they had too many outfielders in LA. Sure would be nice to have Alek Thomas as a LHH to play RF about now but the Sox deliberately passed him up due to their relationship with his father in, you guess it, strength and conditioning. JB Wendelken still hanging in there with DBacks as well. https://theathletic.com/3147254/2022/02/24/hes-going-to-be-knocking-down-that-door-soon-the-alek-thomas-era-of-diamondbacks-baseball-is-rapidly-approaching/ Luis Gonzalez and Mazara still hanging tough statistically. -

Well, minus some of the wear and tear from alcohol, hopefully. (Unless you're Liz Hurley and Tom Cruise.) -

If Mendick succeeds, it makes them look dumb for signing both Harrison and Leury. They have made two good moves out of ten...Graveman and Cueto. Pollock for $10 million and 0 fWAR is hardly what I would term as a win. -
Greg, what happened to the likes of Joe Mauer and Buster Posey? Playing that position shortened their careers by 3-5 years. Anderson could surely do it, but why end the career of one of the best hitters in baseball prematurely? Look at Grandal today as another example. And SS's that are $100+ million studs don't grow on trees. There are only 8-10 in the entire world. If there were too many, we would have a good 2B by now by simply converting one...but the future MLB 2027 All-Star list has a high schooler in Terrmar Johnson listed due to the dearth of quality depth at even second base in the majors. You can always find a guy. But acquiring/paying for THE guy is not so easy.

Great news on Leury. Not! Just means Mendick will get injured and Harrison will get yet another two week reprieve. -
Doesn't seem the decision on Mendick/Harrison/Burger will be coming soon enough to placate the masses.

Haseley Pollock Hendriks...three most commonly misspelled names this year.

Who should Sox fear the most, CLE or Minny?
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Meanwhile, CLE @ Minny battle for 1st place, coming up Tues… https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/payroll/ Phillies, White Sox, Angels only Top 13 payroll teams not in playoff position right now. Phils obviously trending up but so are the Braves. Cubs down to #14 and falling. -
Urshela and Garlick at 30 are the two oldest Twins’ position players. For the Guardians, Maile (backup catcher) is 31 and Jose Ramirez turning 30 before the end of the season.

It was somewhat petty to try to control/punish Merecedes like that by keeping him in the organization. At least after last season ended. They had zero intention of recalling him. Even with Collins gone, Zavala and then Carlos Perez were 3rd and 4th on the depth chart. I can understand why he celebrated his departure, even if it also came across as immature. The Giants are the much better organization to play for right now. Everything they do has a purpose and plan behind it, both short and long/er term.
