White Sox sign Cuban RHP Yosimar Cousin
Strange type of deal for someone who a team STRONGLY believes has the ability to be an impact talent at the major league level. Not even Velasquez money.

Benintendi, Suzuki, Yoshida
Wrong so far on Yoshida... battling through an injury, timing is still messed up, but still fervently believe in the long run you have to take these risks on players who can potentially outperform their contracts 55-60%+ of the time. Versus those who are already maxed out and nearing the downside of their careers. Still have a long way to go before a winner can be declared. MLB scouting catches up quickly and players are forced to make adjustments on the fly.

Same with Babylon? I liked the first two hours and then it got way too predictable… Air is definitely worth watching. M3GAN in the genre of light horror/comedic movies isn’t bad.

2023 AL Central Division Thread
Of course. And for $1.5 million less than Benintendi. OFC, Sox gave almost same exact years and money to Grandal at that superdemanding career killing position while already in his 30s.

4/17 Phillies Sox PPD, Straight DH on Tuesday
This was surely inspirational about the next "wave" of Sox pitchers at Charlotte (especially Cronin's ERA despite great stuff line)... from Scott Merkin's "Sox Beat" column "CHICAGO – The goals for Davis Martin, Lane Ramsey and Declan Cronin remain the same: Reach the Major Leagues and help the White Sox win a World Series championship. But if they can reach those goals together? Well, then all the better. It seems only fitting considering they’ve been together for much of their Minor League careers. Martin, 26, was selected by the White Sox in the 14th round of the 2018 Draft, and Ramsey, 26, was taken in the 23rd round. Cronin, 25, arrived one year later in the 36th round. They are currently part of Triple-A Charlotte’s pitching staff. They also lived together during February and March near Camelback Ranch, where they took part in in their first big league Spring Training. “I always do everything backwards; it’s hilarious,” said Martin -- who made 14 appearances, of which nine were starts, for the 2022 White Sox -- during an interview in Arizona. “It’s cool because it’s a new experience. Different than anything I’ve ever experienced before.” “It’s very funny,” Cronin said. “He had been in the Chicago clubhouse but not in Glendale.” Through 15 games at Charlotte, Martin has made three starts and posted a 2.81 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 16 innings, including 11 strikeouts in his April 14 start. He would be next up for the White Sox if a starter is needed. Ramsey has a 3.00 ERA and two saves in six appearances, while Cronin has an 8.22 ERA in six games but is considered a pitcher with strong overall stuff. The trio of pitchers worked diligently to improve this spring but also had fun, from early morning jumps into the cold pool at the rental house to spirited games of pool to visits to a local all-you-can-eat sushi place. Now, the collective and individual focus falls upon continued development on the road to the Majors -- though they each would probably end up in their own place if that dream was fulfilled. “I would imagine we would be at each other’s [residences], try to be next door neighbors. It’s definitely exciting times for us,” Ramsey said. “Exactly, all three being in Chicago. I feel very confident that will happen this year.” copyright Scott Merkin/MLB.com full article posted to email

This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
Don't forget the absence of Leury. No... can't go THAT far. Not yet.

Fight question
Because it supposedly goes along with the Downtown/Loop Teen Takeover in the minds of Fox News producers? Correlation in their eyes...

Or This is the End by The Doors Hello, I Don't Love You by JR and The Doors- This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
Of course the Twins are underachieving offensively with 4-5 regulars out. They have a much better defense, Top 5, better bullpen (not even close) and much more team speed/aggressiveness on the basepaths. And we are already 3-4 games behind two teams, not just one. Not to mention we hear this same exact argument every year about the Twins and/or Guardians having multiple weaknesses.- Phillies @ White Sox, upcoming series
1/3 chance? It's going to be pretty miserable weather for a game...especially at night.- This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
As soon. as you lose Giolito Lynn Anderson Clevinger Grandal and most of the bullpen, how does it make sense to keep running Jimenez Moncada Vaughn Robert out there without making any changes since you're not winning anything anyway...and that's kind of the default Hahn argument, we have to wait until they're all healthy and playing together for an extended period before we can make my adjustments.- 4-16 GT: Orioles at Sox (1:10pm) - Delayed til 3:30
They're not going to sit Vaughn, though. They'll argue he's close or leading the team in RBI's and the power will come if he keeps at it blah blah blah learns how to hit tough righties and plays the only position he's really comfortable with.- 4-16 GT: Orioles at Sox (1:10pm) - Delayed til 3:30
Managing a bullpen. and getting the most out of the bullpen's talent, are two entirely different aspects. Anytime you have a pen and nobody really knows their roles from day to day... it usually leads to disaster. Is Lopez the closer? Well, he hasn't been used that traditional way for sure. We already know all the LH issues. They are well documented. Lambert has basically taken over Kelly's role and by many measures has been doing as well or better than Graveman. And there's no pecking order at all after those four guys (Lopez, Bummer, Graveman, Lambert)...we just know disaster is usually waiting behind the magical mystery door that feels almost randomly chosen on a daily basis.- This team is going to lose 90 plus games...
Are all those scouts, evaluators, cross checkers and baseball writers paid more to make assessments than MLB general managers? If you just went by rankings compilations and aggregators, what could Hahn do that ChatGP4 can't do even better?- Phillies @ White Sox, upcoming series
“Here” is the manager’s chair of a major-league team in a major city. Grifol is the fourth Latino manager in the major leagues and the Sox’ first skipper not to have played in the major leagues since Terry Bevington in the mid-1990s. An All-America catcher out of Florida State drafted by the Twins in the sixth round in 1991, Grifol made it as high as Triple-A as a catcher in the Mets’ organization. https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2023/3/28/23659663/chicago-white-sox-manager-pedro-grifol-rick-hahn-tony-la-russa-terry-bevington- Phillies @ White Sox, upcoming series

LHP Falter vs. Lucas Giolito RHP Taijuan Walker vs. Don't Let your Babies grow up to be Clevingers Both teams enter at disappointing records of 6-10, so ranked 21st (Sox) at MLB Power Rankings and 20th respectively, Phillies desperate to quickly get back into the NL East race. Sox currently 19th in attendance in the VERY early going.- Nick Solak
Almost the exact same record as the White Sox...1/2 game better, in fact. That was supposed to be the break in the schedule, at Cincy in early May. Maybe not...- **Movies that we Watch** Thread
A lot of critics are ruing the absence of someone portraying Michael Jordan, but I think the absence of him forces the focus on the other members of the cast, like Bateman, Deloris Jordan, Falk, etc. Seeing those names on the draft board brought back memories, especially Dinner Bell Mel Turpin. Easy to forget Stockton and Barkley were in that class as well as Hakeem of course. Wasn't a huge fan of Chris Tucker's casting, but he was fine all in all. Everyone who grew up in the 80's will appreciate the soundtrack and plethora of product placements.- **Movies that we Watch** Thread

Solid bump/jump from 1.6 to 2 million 2021 to 2022. Result of two disappointing playoff appearances but at least they made the postseason as promised. Will now see a fall to as low as 1.4 to 1.6 million this year if the wheels totally fall off. Fans treated terribly this entire offseason.- Fire Rick Hahn
They've got MUCH bigger problems than that to deal with for the moment... the media is already turning on the team and giving up hope just two weeks into the season. And the truly challenging part of the schedule hasn't even arrived. - Mike Clevinger questioned about walkout song before home debut
