The Jarred Kelenic Appreciation Thread

8/56=.143 .499 OPS. We will see how long they let him continue to struggle before trying to get him going again in the minors. 11 strikeouts and 4 walks. -

Ron, you’re not an AARP member? Blue Jays haven’t had any starters go over 100 pitches this season, wow. 2-2 Tribe/Blue Jays...wind wreaking havoc. November weather conditions. Guerrero Jr. down forty pounds and playing GG-quality first base defense. -

Engel 1/2 with an RBI. Indians also placed Jordan Luplow on the IL, third biggest power hitter despite low average. -

Indians starting Eli “Captain” Morgan for the first time (big league debut)....50 mph winds in Cleveland. Can’t even attempt to tarp the field if rains come, just have to bag the game. Blue Jays moving to Buffalo next week, won’t be able to play again in Toronto all season long. -
Projecting fWAR near 1/3rd pole of season
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Oh, that’s right, so he has a lot of leverage with Hahn since Giolito and Rodon both would be really tough extensions. -

Projecting fWAR near 1/3rd pole of season
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes, he will get a number of 2-4 year (max) offers from other teams...with top value likely to be around 4 and $70-85 million, depending upon how he finishes out the season and playoffs. Giolito is going to be a tough one. All things considered, Lynn is the best bet, but then you have his age...wondering when the "fall off a cliff" point is, his conditioning issues, allegations (like everyone in baseball) about movement/unnatural spin rates due to foreign substances. Assuming the QO system is still around after the CBA is re-opened, we would at least get some compensation back for Rodon and Lynn via draft picks. -
Moncada 6.0 Abreu/TA 3.9 Mercedes 3.3 (probably 3.6 or 3.9 after last night) Robert 3.0 (from just one month) Grandal 3.0 Madrigal 2.4 Eaton 2.1 Vaughn 1.8 (should end up higher, missed a lot of at-bats early) Mendick 1.2 Hamilton 0.6 Collins 0.0 Leury -0.6 Rodon 6.0 Lynn 3.9 Cease 3.6 or 3.9 (updates tmrw) Kopech/Gio 2.7 Keuchel/Hendriks 1.5 Heuer 1.2 Ruiz, Crochet, Bummer 0.6 Foster 0.3 Marshall -0.6

And left-handed. Mike Minor, Jordan Montgomery, this game...one against the Cards we rallied to win, definitely slipping. Or the line-ups are just crap? Or both...
-
Former high first round draft pick...wasn't it the Yankees? Maybe getting him confused with someone else...but definitely a 1st rounder.
-
Twizzlers!!! C'mon! By the way, go RED.
-
Why do we always go to our three worst relievers in these situations? If anything, our best relievers would HOPEFULLY make it easier to win a game we're absolutely supposed to win.

Trouble brewing here. Eventually they will break through, even if they are the "worst team in the major leagues."

Cy Zimmermann...not even Jordan from 5-6 years ago with the Nats.

The dumbest play in baseball history
caulfield12 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in The Diamond Club
That was Will Craig for Pitt. Cleveland, btw, has a no hitter going against the hapless Tigers. -
And this was true across the board. South Korea. Vietnam. Japan (a bit of a mess now). Taiwan. Singapore. Thailand. Hong Kong. It’s 50% cultural memory of SARS, 25% authoritarian systems (not much different from the US in 2017-2020), and 25% the wearing of masks already for protection against pollution/dust particles/cold or flu.

One of the big stories last year was about the “hidden” deaths....based on the number of funerals (more accurately, the burying of ashes/urns) held in early April. The number was something like 42,500, compared to the normal death rate for a city of 11+ million of roughly 30k. No doubt an undercount because the first 2-3 weeks many died before bring properly tested. But India’s going to end up in an undercount with over a year to prepare in the hundreds of thousands if not millions. They are supposedly a democracy as well as a US ally against China. The fact that 70-75% of the world’s drugs are manufactured there is even scarier...especially for the Covax plan to vaccinate the second/third world developing countries.

Engel To Begin Rehab Assignment Tomorrow in AAA

On the bench so far today, along with Burgatron. -
Should read “had its name changed/switched”...or Sox officials “renamed the area”...or whatever.

“Here we report the identification of SARS-CoV-2-related coronaviruses in Malayan pangolins (Manis javanica) seized in anti-smuggling operations in southern China. Metagenomic sequencing identified pangolin-associated coronaviruses that belong to two sub-lineages of SARS-CoV-2-related coronaviruses, including one that exhibits strong similarity in the receptor-binding domain to SARS-CoV-2. The discovery of multiple lineages of pangolin coronavirus and their similarity to SARS-CoV-2 suggests that pangolins should be considered as possible hosts in the emergence of new coronaviruses and should be removed from wet markets to prevent zoonotic transmission.” https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2169-0 Is it possible that researchers got sick in the lab, and spread it from there to the hospital/s? Sure. Is it possible it spread through the wet market, the original theory? Sure. Or that it is somehow connected to the illegal trade of pangolins between China, Vietnam and Cambodia? Sure. And bats/caves in southern or southwestern China? Sure. That China manufactured it as a bio weapon to take over the world? Much less likely? Why unleash it on their own population? Why make it highly transmissible but roughly only 3-5x worse than the common flu and something that impacts, what, 0.004-0.006% of world populations? Why wouldn’t it be manufactured to be more like Ebola, SARs or MERs? Or like releasing the Bubonic Plague/Black Death again?

Yet this year, Loretta’s Lounge abruptly changed its name to La Russa’s lounge, after manager Tony La Russa. Loretta’s sign was not only taken down, but also, Soto said, “The word we got from the White Sox it that, you know was thrown out; it was disposed of.” https://www.audacy.com/670thescore/sports/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-rename-lounge-tony-la-russa-in-place-beloved-concessions-worker

https://sports.yahoo.com/white-sox-lorettas-lounge-tony-la-russa-guaranteed-rate-mlb-043109170.html Now it made Yahoo Sports, lol... This legit pissed me off. This was formerly named Loretta’s Lounge after Loretta Micele. She worked concessions for the Sox for 60 years. They dedicated it to her during the 2005 World Series. She gave so much to the organization and replacing her name to that of TLR is shameful. pic.twitter.com/mecpWbTMoU — Tyrone Palmer (@TheTyronePalmer) May 26, 2021 Removing the name of a beloved concession worker who spent nearly her entire life serving White Sox fans for a manager whose hire was widely questioned by fans ended up being quite the recipe for a vocal backlash. In addition to White Sox fans, voices around the country as well as Chicago spoke out: "Gross. Just ... gross." "This is just awful." "Egregious. Fix it now." "This is shameful." "The Tony La Russa era is fast becoming a national embarrassment." There was also the matter of Micele's family. Her great grandson was also on Twitter, per the Chicago Sun Times. He complained that the team didn't even give his great grandmother's sign to the family, despite his mother still working there. “My family and I appreciate all the love from our White Sox family! This was a tough pill to swallow. The worst part is that my mother still works for them and they didn’t have the decency to give us the sign or even the plaque which is what we cared for the most.” Per the Sun Times, the plaque dedicated to Micele is still in place at the seating area, and a White Sox spokesperson reportedly noted that a different area had been named after La Russa for many seasons. Where is/was the LaRussa area they’re referring to that has been there for many seasons?

Simply put, this is the White Sox division to lose. That’s somewhat incredible considering they have lost two of their best hitters in Eloy Jiménez and Luis Robert to months-long injuries and Tony La Russa can’t seem to get out of his own way. But the South Siders have a supremely talented roster and are now the overwhelming favorites to seize the Central title. FanGraphs puts their odds of that division title at 71.8% as of this writing -- the highest division odds of any team in baseball by far. This is because the Twins have been, just, really, shockingly bad. A lot of that is related to injuries, but a disastrous bullpen hasn’t helped, either. Perhaps there’s a Minnesota Miracle in the offing, but, until or unless that happens, a good deal of air has been taken out of the Central balloon. The saving graces are the Royals’ awesome April and a plucky Cleveland team that keeps winning behind good pitching. But the Royals faded in May and the Tribe just lost Franmil Reyes and Zach Plesac to injury (the latter fractured his thumb while “aggressively ripping off his shirt,” which has happened to all of us at one point or another). So, we repeat: It’s the White Sox division to lose. https://www.mlb.com/news/ranking-2021-mlb-division-races-at-memorial-day?partnerId=zh-20210527-156906-MLB&qid=1026&bt_ee=Su%2BL6O86vi2Q%2Fe6z8NoBf2muDrpEEwx%2BphzL%2BB9cbgT1fBfnFzufoHsTyjh4yMD%2F&bt_ts=1622115498276

Welcome to the club/party....speaking of dumbest plays, Tatis almost topped the Pirates with two errors on one play with a ball he should have just put in his pocket. 14 errors in 33 games now. Over a full season, 69 errors. Since he missed 17 games, the pace is down to 61-62. Of course, he followed that up with a run scoring double and then scored on Hosmer homer to take back the lead. I guess there are worse problems for the #1 record team in baseball. https://www.mlb.com/video/fernando-tatis-jr-s-tough-catch?q=ContentTags %3D ["defense"] Order by Timestamp DESC&cp=CMS_FIRST
