Indians behind Cy Civale leading Tigers 4-0 late...

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/former-mlb-star-admits-hes-never-seen-iconic-video-in-which-he-starred-141913232.html Absolutely SHOCKING news. Fred Crime Dog McGriff has never seen the Tom Emanski defensive fielding drills videos he co-starred in. Seems they were a basic staple of TBS/TNT in the 1990's, like the Mike Lindell "My Pillow" adverts in recent years.

Have to be satisfied with five there. Obviously, 7-0...well, that would have been the 2006 White Sox mowing down the Cardinals like a scythe through wheat at least the first two games of that series from back in the day.
-
Dialed it up to 98 to get Abreu in one of the biggest outs of the game so far. Still a game.
-
Flaherty is not long for this game. Too many pitches piling up for just 4 outs....already almost to 50.
-
Well, that was quite far from an ideal outcome from Eaton in that situation.
-
Just missed it. Hang wiff 'em.

The Moncada treatment in 2017/18 by umpires.
-
Fined by who? Bob Grim? White Sox communications? I think that might have happened maybe once or twice in the last 20 years of Sox broadcasting...
-
To give him another Konerko rocking chair?
-
Was expecting it was going to have something to do with TLR, lol...are they selling his albums at the White Sox concession stands and souvenir stores? Could that get us some better calls?
-
Did you include Luis Robert's name and some reference to the fact that the Cards missed out him? Or a Charlie Tilson shout-out? Btw, Avisail Garcia at .252 and .776 for the Brewers. Anyone trade Avi's existing contract for the Eaton deal? Fathom favorite Kolton Wong at .779 OPS. Omar Narvaez .330 and 885 OPS, one of Balta's favorite (LOL) trades in Sox history. Seems whenever we deal someone with a flaw with the Sox (Semien's lack of a position/fielding/so-so power for 3B), Eduardo Escobar-glove only, Narvaez can only hit/walk, Montas, Bassitt, etc.) they seem to magically find a work-around with another organization.
-
Seems "fairly obvious" at first blush with how Giolito has scuffled (except in his K numbers) for most of the season...I don't know, if you strip away that Boston start and the other one (think it was against DET, but maybe KC) where he was left in too long and the relievers got hit, he'd be somewhere in the vicinity of a 3.50-3.75ish ERA. Pretty good...but not compared to 2019/20. Must be that "certainty" attached to a record like 8-0...like "he can't be beaten," until he is. And that record has been mostly put together with starts against sub-par or mediocre teams, with two notable exceptions.
-
Well, on the Sox scale. Definitely not for the so-called top 10-12 organizations in baseball, historically. Even the Cardinals are showing no fear adding guys like Goldschmidt and Arenado.
-
Same with Adolfo, who warrants a look just for his arm and power...although the K numbers will be stratospheric, in all likelihood.

Why would Tatis make me miserable, that’s ridiculous. He’s fun to watch, period. One day, I hope Luis Robert can consistently bring the same joy...heck, I’m even excited for Burger, because there’s not much else at the minor league level until we get to watch Cespedes, Colas and our other young Cuban pitcher stateside. He, Ohtani, Acuna, Soto, TA7, etc., are the face of the game for the next generation. Doesn’t matter what we feel about that. It’s coming from ESPN and the MLB Network and national/intl. sportswriters. I feel more sorry for those who seem to want him to be injury prone, to miss the entire season due to surgery, plagued by fielding errors, an albatross contract, etc. He’s not the one who did anything to the White Sox. He cried for 2-3 days straight when they traded him, he wanted so desperately to make the big leagues for the White Sox...every member of his extended family had already purchased tons of White Sox gear in 2015-2016 anticipating his future with them. I’d even venture to argue that he is the player he is today because that trade motivated him to prove those who traded him (certainly not Paddy, because Paddy is tight with Tatis, Sr., and KW) wrong as can be. It’s the same burning ambition that pushed Clemente to be the greatest Latin player in the game when the Dodgers tried to hide him in Montreal and hardly ever played him when scouts were in attendance...but that couldn’t prevent the Pirates scouting from discovering his potential despite the Dodgers almost deliberately sabotaging his future because baseball players were treated like human chattel before the Curt Flood decision. The only way for baseball to survive is for the small and mid market teams to remain viable. Fans in Seattle at least now have hope, or Miami with Jazz Chisholm. The Brewers have three of the top pitchers in baseball. The Rays, A’s and Indians can best anyone on a given night. A minority GM is the executive of the year so far in SF. Toronto fans are excited, etc. Since I’m quite obviously the only one who cares about Tatis on this board, close the thread if there’s a lack of interest in his highlights. It’s quite simple to do. The world will still go on, just as baseball has managed to somehow move beyond Yasiel Puig quite easily. The sport is always going to be bigger than individual players, and always will. So it’s not teeth gnashing. One way or the other, one of my two favorite teams will win a World Series in the next five or six years. Maybe you can start an Elijah Tatis or Daniel Fernando Tatis (catcher) thread...since they have been talked about quite frequently on this site at FutureSox.

They better make sure he’s 100% ready for the big leagues this time around...already having suffered one massive setback.

Addressing the OF shortage (Robert Injury Spinoff)
caulfield12 replied to Texsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Something between 2018/19. Last year was an abject disaster. This year, he’s looking at 2-2.5 fWAR if he continues at his current pace. Of course, that’s a HUGE question mark. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/adam-eaton/11205/stats?position=OF Castellanos being one of the hottest hitters in baseball and with that contract is pretty much a no go...even though the Reds are likely going nowhere and will eventually look to trade Sonny Gray or Luis Castillo if he continues to struggle like he has for most of 2021. -
Mike Yastremski... https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/18/us/george-floyd-racial-reckoning-blake/index.html A widely cited 2014 survey found that about 75% of White Americans don't have a single non-White friend. Many of us have become what Cashin calls "integration weary." We've tacitly accepted a contemporary version of the "separate but equal" doctrine that was used to justify Jim Crow. White people won't stop seeing Black men as thugs or predators unless they actually get to know some, she says. "The best way for others to be humanized is for you to make a friend that is not of your own race," says Cashin, author of the forthcoming book, "White Space, Black Hood: Opportunity Hoarding and Segregation in the Age of Inequality." "If you got a situation where something like 75% of Whites live in a very White (suburban schools and gated housing) space, how is that going to happen?" she says. The LaRussa defenders will certainly bring up Canseco, Pujols and Yadi Molina, to name just a few. Guess we will just have to see how all this plays out in the days and weeks to come.

With Max Fried of the Braves as well...

Addressing the OF shortage (Robert Injury Spinoff)
caulfield12 replied to Texsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Trade your entire minor league system for...basically. And Gallo is unlikely to move since the Rangers/Astros are leading MLB in attendance and don’t have any desperation to simply dump payroll. They will be more than happy to trade DeShields, though. Haniger and Starling Marte upon return to full health remain the best options, unless Hoyer loses his mind and trades Bryant to the White Sox. But that’s also dependent upon a return to full health for Engel...manning CF. And it would likely mean benching Eaton and admitting another $8 million was largely wasted except for the first 2-3 weeks of this season. Then basically you’re forced to give away Madrigal for nothing in the process...but, other than that, swell idea. -
Clearly Yermin was just fortunate to luck into his playing time...pretty much by accident, and the fact Hahn and JR didn’t have more than $3 or $5 or $8 million or whatever we were led to believe in that old war chest. LaRussa would be in second place or maybe even third if it wasn’t for Yermin and also Vaughn and his agency being so amenable to do anything to help out the team...like playing LF and RF with hardly any lifetime experience there, bottom 25% foot speed but a willingness to do anything to get on the field somewhere and help his teammates out. That said, why haven’t we heard a single compliment in the last week directed at Yermin? Who has battled and grinded more consistently in our lineup? Who never complained when he had only one at bat last year...watching guys like Collins, EE and Mazara get most of those opportunities? Heck, even Zavala, for that matter. The White Sox did everything but let him go to another organization where he could receive an opportunity to get regular playing time. But hardly 4D/5D geniuses operating on a whole different level than the rest of the league.

Why do you never post in game threads if you care so much about the team? The White Sox will have a competitive advantage now for the coming weeks in terms of their ability to generate more revenue. Such a terrible thing to point out! Number three, I remember being promised “unprecedented financial flexibility.” If the fans don’t deserve a bigger payroll, why are we just supposed to be satisfied with whatever we receive? Number four, I wrote on more than one one occasion that you could erase that Tatis thread, but it wasn’t started by me. Number five, I can’t even leave China and return from the US with my son since he can’t be vaccinated, and I would face a 28 day hard quarantine, impossible to find rental cars, higher gas prices, no home to return to since the house had to be sold to pay $4500 USD per month (already going on three plus years) because my mom is 92 and suffers from dementia/Alzheimer’s...so even that money will run out in another 3-4 years. I really enjoy being the only child with my mom in the US, my father passed away in 1999 and facing the possibility of losing my family and job if I do return to the US from China, not to mention being forced to get a largely untested Chinese vaccine (Sinopharm) that Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and UAE are already requiring six month booster shots because of lower efficacy rates. And yeah, I certainly enjoyed being a firsthand witness to tens of thousands dying, including friends, neighbors and coworkers who got sick and a few who had to return to the US under emergency flights. Number Six, then we also have to erase the Kelenic Thread because that is also trolling the White Sox for not selecting the local Wisconsin kid, except he’s proving it is not so easy to light the world on fire right out of the gate. Number Seven, we’ve been getting trolled by JR and Rick Hahn for over a decade now. See the “satisfied with second place and elevated profits” thread from last year. Number Eight, let’s see you “walk the walk” and post more consistently in game threads. I can manage to wake up between 1-8am here in China when I have a wife and family and work that subsequent day... Number Nine, last time I checked, Tatis is in the NL and not a direct threat unless we play them in the World Series. I didn’t trade him. It’s not my fault he is one of the most entertaining players to watch in the game...so I should be sore, bitter and ignore him even though I follow every team in baseball for fantasy leagues because the GM of my favorite team admitted for the only time in his life to being an idiot for trading him? Okay then... Let’s erase the Tatis and Kelenic Threads. Go ahead, or at least lock them. As I said before Moan4Yoan started one of those...but haven’t seen him for ages. While we’re at it, we can get rid of Dunning and anyone questioning or belittling Tony La Russa, well, just because they’re not good enough fans, either.
