  1. Should be a double error for lack of hustle, extra bag surrendered.
  2. Gold Glove isn't going to be as easy piling up early season errors...
  3. Calhoun really looking fastball there...Uncle Charlie not so bueno.
  4. Relitigating Game 3 of the post-season in real time...
  5. ANAHEIM, Calif. — Right-hander Dane Dunning takes a 14-inning scoreless streak into his next start Friday at Chicago. Maybe a little extra motivation, too. Dunning will be facing his former team. He made his debut for the White Sox last summer before being traded to the Rangers for Lance Lynn. Dunning was originally drafted by Washington but was dealt to the White Sox, along with Lucas Giolito, for outfielder Adam Eaton. Dunning said he is “really looking forward to” facing the White Sox. “Just competing against my old team,” Dunning said. “Obviously, I wasn’t planning on getting traded. Then things happen. Being able to compete, though, and hopefully show them that the Rangers made a really great decision on getting me is a goal of mine. It’s a big goal of mine.” https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2021/04/21/rangers-rhp-dane-dunning-brings-extra-motivation-a-14-inning-scoreless-streak-into-reunion-game-vs-white-sox/ But the 2021 White Sox have been built with a “World Series or bust” mentality. They already have burgeoning young arms in Dylan Cease and Michael Kopech, and Carlos Rodón and López have returned, leaving high expectations but also uncertainty for the rotation’s final two spots. Lynn, one of the more durable and frequently dominant arms in the AL, pairing with Giolito and Dallas Keuchel creates a trio that matches up favorably against any other team’s front three, especially when playoff opportunities arise. Meanwhile, Dunning will apply the experience he gained with the White Sox as he starts every fifth day for the Rangers. “I’ve been out in Arizona already and working out at the [Rangers'] complex,” said Dunning. “I’m the new guy, so I have to learn all the names and faces and how things run. I’ve had some talks with a couple of the pitchers, and just talking about how we want things to go this next year and get better, and I love it so far. “It has been awesome. I have nothing but respect for the Chicago White Sox and the organization. … It was just a great learning experience,” added Dunning, who has high praise for what he learned from former teammates such as Giolito, Keuchel, José Abreu and Tim Anderson. “It’s a really good opportunity for me to go with the Texas Rangers.” The idea was to have left-hander Garrett Crochet face the left-handed-hitting Matt Olson and then have Crochet work two or three additional innings. Dunning understood the plan, but he was glad he didn't know of it in advance. “I’m happy they didn’t tell me that, just for the fact that I’m going in there expecting I’m going to have to go five, six, seven innings, that was my plan,” Dunning said during a recent interview. “I was going out trying to attack hitters and get early outs. “I want the ball in my hand. I want to be on the mound every day. If I could, I definitely would. I was a little surprised, but I got the situation, and I quickly tried to rally myself and support the team. It was all hands on deck. This isn’t ‘If we lose, oh well.’ It’s win or you go home. So I completely get the situation.” https://www.mlb.com/news/dane-dunning-on-time-with-white-sox
  6. SoxTalk=98% male Sox crowds=60/40 split, roughly...but with all our noted strikingly handsome players, perhaps closer to 50/50
  7. He’s the most logical replacement for Moncada/jimenez in the batting order (assuming Mercedes falls back to earth and Vaughn doesn’t suddenly go off like Pete Alonso)...but let’s not forget this is still the halfway point of his rookie campaign for statistical purposes. Three strong performance swings, up/down/up. That does somewhat limit his stolen base numbers compared to the 2 spot.
  8. How about let’s be more like the Brewers, Indians, Rays, Twins, A’s and Astros/Cards in our scouting???....since those are all (outside of the last two, and historically the Astros were never a Top 6-8 payroll team, either) pretty much the definition of small and mid market teams, most in our own backyard, so to speak.
  9. Marco Paddy. Minus Nestor Molina, and pretty sure he wasn’t a part of the Viciedo pursuit...
  10. Tatis has barely played ten games, is still contributing on the basepaths...and there’s no way to know what impact the shoulder and a massive new contract are having. He’s already faced Buehler twice, Kershaw, Woodruff, Burnes, etc. If he still has less than a 2 fWAR on July 31st, then by all means, list him as a disappointment. Actually, Pham has been way worse.
  11. The next Tim Anderson? Looks like the profile hasn't been updated in quite awhile... https://www.instagram.com/tatisdanielfernando/?hl=en
  12. That's Beastie Boys. They shot some of those videos in Echo Canyon area not so far from Dodger Stadium. Sabotage, maybe...sound track of high school, along with New Order, Depeche Mode and The Cult.
  13. How many times has he actually come close to playing 150+? Extrapolating numbers over 162 is not so useful for Yoan when you carefully examine all the times he has been pulled from games early or missed stretches at a time. Not to mention Covid.
  14. Is that like 'illin' but a different generation?
  15. You can't have one of your so-called franchise players hitting 8th or 9th...he's going to have to fight his way through it. If it's obviously to civilians at SoxTalk, surely it's got an !!!!! after the comment about not giving him any fastballs in the hitting zone, even ahead in the count 2-0 or 3-1.
  16. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-pipeline-top-150-draft-prospects?t=mlb-draft-coverage Not sure if this is distinct from the last list published earlier. Rocker pushed to the side by Leiter. New Top 150 by MLB Pipeline.
  17. But Glass/Dayton Moore are largely responsible for two consecutive World Series teams...at least they have that, especially for the bottom 10 teams in baseball to stand as an example that it CAN be done. When they did win, they were willing to increase the payroll significantly, and even gave Gordon and Sal Perez last contracts out of a sense of loyalty appreciation. That said, Sal Perez is playing extremely well THIS year, he's definitely not washed up (yet).
  18. One thing's for sure...Luis Robert, at least, is making a better adjustment (to off-speed stuff) in his "rookie year" (continued) than Yoan in 3-4 seasons. Remember, he spent 2+ seasons just fighting the RH/LH switch-batting issue, then finally seemed to get comfortable on the field when moved from second base to 3rd.
  19. They're never going to get the proper value back in return. This is like the Twins trading Buxton or Berrios 2-3 years ago when it became apparent they weren't going sign long-term extensions...before they became All-Star/Cy Young caliber. The problem is that Moncada's already locked in with a long-term extension, which provides clarity, but not a tremendous amount of surplus value if Yoan is 2017-2018/2020-21 version. There's ONE great season, four average to below average seasons and then the Covid "repercussions/aftereffects" which is seeming more and more like a giant excuse when Freddie Freeman and Eduardo Rodriguez were in life threatening situations and turned out just fine. You've got the focus/work ethic issue, the lingering/nagging leg issues (not getting nearly the stolen bases his ability warrants), taking him away from the comfort zone of a team filled with his fellow countrymen (maybe he's gotten too comfortable). Heck, some will start wondering if he got his money (twice now) and is more interested in a music/celebrity career than making improvements playing the game of baseball. Or eating Twinkies, lol. Without Moncada as an All-Star, we're fighting tooth and nail for the Central or a wild card spot, at best. Then you start talking about dealing Giolito as well...and Hahn's "retooling on the fly" nonsense.
  20. I guess their manhood is being challenged directly by his success...the opposite of the Napoleon Complex. I mean, it's not like his parents gave him a couple of million to invest in Bitcoin, Dogecoin and Tesla. At his height/size, he became the best high school hitter in the country against all odds...and continued that success at Oregon State.
  21. Last I checked, he doesn't have anything resembling a $50+ million commitment. Royals weaponizing Jarrod Dyson in the late innings again, recalls the glory days with him and Gore swiping 2nd and getting bunted over and sacrificed/FC'ed in. KC is a lot better than I thought they would be, largely on the strength of Merrifield, Perez and Santana. Soler really hasn't even gotten heated up yet.
