  1. Yeah, he’s toying with the Twins. Totally different lineup without Cruz and Donaldson in the middle, though.
  2. Well, it worked well for a certain resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but when you live outside of the country for basically fifteen years, you do tend to meet more “local” women, especially in a country of 1.4 billion. That said, men outnumber women in China by a 6 to 5 ratio...which means you need to have at least $75,000-$100,000 saved for a house downpayment or you’re unlikely to find a suitable marriage partner.

  4. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-56343081 There has been criticism of a viral and unverified size chart indicating how much a "BM girl" should weigh according to her height - one example given was that a woman with a height of 160cm should weigh only 43kg. ..... "There is a popular Chinese saying which means 'a good woman cannot be over 100 jin' which is about 50kg [110lb]," Dr Ke said. This new BM style trend involves mostly teens and twenty somethings taking pictures of themselves fitting into children’s size clothing (the smaller, the better) from fast-fashion stores and posting picture after picture on social media...
  5. Where are you from? And you’re forgetting Casey’s General Stores brand pizza, lol. Basically, you could be describing any state going west from Ohio all the way to Denver and SLC if you remove Chicago and Indianapolis...which also gets made fun of. After having lived in Kansas City for nearly a decade, you can only take so much of long commuting, bbq, fountains and everyone wanting to go to the Plaza when they visit. That basically just leaves Minneapolis and St. Louis as “decent” cities. Chicago is one of the great cities of the world, but there’s absolutely nothing between there and the Iowa border. Iowa is mostly known for friendly people who are (or used to be) willing to do anything for their neighbors...that’s one thing the Midwest has always had going for it. But when I come back to the States to visit, it seems everyone has gone from size L to XXL.
  6. That said, you can understand trying to get at least 5 IP and the win for Keuchel as we near the back two spots in the rotation and anticipate relievers getting equal numbers of innings to Cease and Rodon. If it would already have been a 1-2 run game, that thinking might have been different. You can also argue that it should have stayed a three run lead if not for the Eaton miscue. We had at least three official errors in these two games, at critical moments, then Moncada blowing the DP ball and Grandal not blocking the ball late as well. Feels pretty fortunate to be a split at this juncture. Suffice it to say, the defense has been far from crisp, and that will or should get cleaned up as the season progresses.
  7. https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_/id/31086/alex-cobb Remove Billy Hamilton’s 0/7 and we hit nearly .500 against Cobb.
  8. But no rain outs/weather delays....games bunching up in schedule. It’s perfect in China because we have a long holiday weekend too, Sat-Mon. Can go back and forth with Final 4, although not expecting much until Monday night...
  9. Calling anyone a dope after a single game is the definition of dopey/premature evaluation. Let’s wait until they find the hole in his swing and try to exploit it.
  10. Nobody is asking if Moncada will strike out five times again tonight...let’s just wait and revisit this thread at the 54 game mark. After one month last year, Luis Robert was being compared to Mike Trout and considered a first ballot Hall of Famer. Adjustments from the league will come quickly enough...
  11. This I can actually agree with. A high or elite post-secondary education doesn't equate to understanding every single aspect of the game. Just look at Ozzie Guillen.
  12. In terms of translating that into a real MLB opportunity for extended playing time. Maybe with the early 2000's Oakland A's... where they went off raw numbers and didn't primarily reply on scouting reports. Let's not forget RR gave Yermin only one at bat in September last year. He also didn't look past conventional scouting wisdom.
  13. They were attempting to play up not only being a 1B/DH, which goes against every scouting report, like ever.
  14. Sometimes hitters are late bloomers, Carlos Martinez's son is one that immediately comes to mind... waiting for years and years for an opportunity.
  15. Collins has marginal trade value until he proves he can catch or hit consistently in the big leagues. Also, Vaughn nor Mercedes will likely ever start at 3B for the Chicago White Sox. Taking ground balls is one thing, game conditions, handling bunts/barehand plays, quick reactions that rely on instincts, it's so much more demanding than LF or 1B.
  16. Are we talking about Vaughn throwing in LF, or Michael Kopech? Because Kopech might be Game 2 over Keuchel and Lynn...
  17. Fernando Tatis is on a pace to make 243 errors, hit .125 and get thrown out on every stolen base attempt. Let’s give this at least a month. The funny thing is I rushed out to add Yermin last night to my fantasy team because Austin Nola is hurt and I sadly discovered after the fact that he’s not considered a catcher even, but a utility player, despite his roster listing. What he accomplished last night is just as rare as a White Sox World Series title. Despite his minor league OPS number of 856, he would get his own Disney movie, like Jim Morris of the Rays. It took Yermin three years alone to get out of Dominican rookie ball, and he didn’t start playing at 15-16, he was already 18. Then he had three years of Indy ball. I do think Yermin is much more likely to hit than Collins. I believe he can put up around an 800-825 ops, which is far better than guys like Yonder Alonso, Encarnacion and LaRoche. It’s a testament to his self-belief that he persevered all this time despite the doubters littered along the way that questioned his body type and his catching ability. It’s a great story...and exactly what this team needs in light of the Jimenez injury. Let’s just enjoy it while it lasts. And it just shows there’s always a place in baseball for guys with bodies like Tony Gwynn, Pete incaviglia or John Kruk as long as they can hit the ball, one of the hardest acts in sports. To hit a round ball with a cylindrical object. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=183483
  18. Every fantasy league is saying WHO THE HELL IS THIS MERCEDES guy who's eligible for catcher? Going to have to claim him with Nola injured...

  20. Who gets the starts in LF tomorrow? Vaughn again? Leury? Mercedes has to get another shot instead of Collins... Does Lamb get a start to give Moncada a chance to take a game off and reset?
  21. Guess you have to decide to leave Hendriks in to finish it out...because you definitely don't want Ruiz to screw it up when you fought so hard to get the win.
  22. Wouldn't opponents say this every time out against Keuchel as well?
  23. Yeah, I'm watching MLB.TV on my iPAD but it's always about 15-30 seconds behind the game thread.
