  1. This ties the mark from 1968 of six Cubans in a starting line-up for an MLB game. 52 years have passed. Robert, Moncada, Grandal, Abreu, Soler, Bolanos
  2. Well, if you can call any ball going out to CF or RCF by a RHB in a big league park a cheapie, sure.
  3. Dylan Covey Phenomenon. Of course, if Starling makes that play, it's only 1-0. Bolanos belong as a reliever, with the two pitch combination. Unless he could develop his curveball or change, he just doesn't have enough speed variation to last more than once through a line-up because everything he throws is hard, hard, hard.
  4. These are the games when hitting becomes contagious and they put up a series of crooked numbers. Perfect weather for the ball to carry, just a LITTLE bit cool for this time of year, though. Normally in 90's instead of low 80's.
  5. Bolanos seems like he's a bit intimidated by the names on the back of the jersey. Wow. Easy power. Just kept going and going and going. Thought for sure Starling was going to catch it. Great try by Bubba, local KS kid. Looks like he mistimed that one, then managed to knock a double over the fence.
  6. Guess calling out Grandal worked, haha. Gotta go with those pitches instead of trying to pull anything. Great opportunity here for EE to put another 3 spot up early. Doesn't want to give in and throw him a FB cookie over the plate. Shades of Miguel Ascencio there. WP.
  7. Abreu off balance with that swing. Definitely seems like it's taking guys like Abreu, EE and Grandal longer to get going. Somehow, that doesn't apply to guys like Nelson Cruz and Josh Donaldson.
  8. Bolanos is another Cuban, undoubtedly faced Robert many times... 95-99 MPH fastball, only question is how many innings he can give you? 3-4 would seem to be the max, unless he can pitch efficiently, which is challenging for someone who relies on raw stuff but no command/control in the strike zone. FB/SL combination his two best pitches.
  9. He was acquired to pretty much play everyday...the reason we shouldn’t be hearing Delmonico’s name at all, just Engel as the backup. Btw, five games already today cancelled due to Covid or weather. Ouch.
  10. Comments like those will surely save the travel and tourism industry, as well as Boeing. Btw, if the new C-919 being built here in China doesn’t crash the first 2-3 years of domestic use, 30-40% of the world aircraft market share will be lost to Boeing and Airbus.
  11. That’s a lot of pressure, let’s see how he responds to leadoff first. He’s obviously a confident player, just not sure this is the right move. Moncada and Robert are surely the two most talented in the line-up, but both are 25-30% K guys. Vaughn is the long-term answer. Has to be the best pure hitter in the org.
  12. Elijah Tatis. In all seriousness, between Anderson, Semien, Tatis, Jr. Carlos Sanchez, Eduardo Escobar and Tyler Saladino...not to mention Leury coming over from Texas for Alex Rios, we must have produced more SS fWAR than any MLB franchise the past 5-7 years.
  13. As the new school year began for some schools this week, 60 of the 101 largest US school districts had plans to start the year entirely online, while others were offering in-person classes part or full time. source: cnn.com
  14. The Cardinals received word by Saturday morning of four additional positive tests on their 58-person traveling party, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch confirmed. They have had six positives test total since arriving in Milwaukee on Thursday. Three are players, including the two players who learned of their positive tests Thursday. They have not been identified. Players can choose to exercise their medical privacy and will not be identified without their consent. As of Saturday morning, the team was still trying to understand the scope of the outbreak and had not reviewed or received all of the results from the tests taken Friday, a source confirmed. Here is the breakdown of what is confirmed by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and and from officials with the team: • Six members of the traveling party have been isolated from the team. They will undergo additional testing Saturday as a result of their positive tests. Four were new as of late Friday night or early Saturday. • The entire traveling party is undergoing more tests Saturday morning. • Not all of the results from Friday's exams have been reported or reviewed by the team. Once those are available to the team they'll have a better understanding of the reach of the outbreak, the condition of their roster, and whether they can advance on the next few days of the season. https://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball/professional/birdland/four-more-cardinals-personnel-test-positive-for-covid-19-bringing-uncertainty-to-series-next-steps/article_12a2a5d7-35c0-5705-924e-2d64a5cb2e71.html#tracking-source=home-top-story-1
  15. The Philadelphia Phillies are optimistic that their last two positive COVID-19 tests -- with a coach and clubhouse attendant -- were false positives, sources told ESPN on Saturday. The Phillies, who are a week separated from games against the Miami Marlins with no positive tests among players through Friday's testing, are permitted to access Citizens Bank Park for staggered workouts beginning Saturday. False positives would be good for Phillies because it would take the incubation period of the team's most recent exposure back to last Sunday against the Marlins, who have had 21 positive tests within their organization since that game. espn.com
  16. Right, apples and oranges, private vs. suburban vs. inner city public schools. Only 9% of US education comes from the Federal government, it's mostly a local/property-tax driven resource.
  17. Tatis ties the game with a homer in Colorado with two outs, top of the 9th, off Wade Davis. Wow. Pham hits a 3 run homer off Davis for the lead, 8-5, but the Rockies are still about to come back and tie or win it against Yates. That would be the 4th blown save in the first 8 games for SD. Yates has gone from the most reliable closer in MLB last year to a guy who can't do anything on the mound right now. 8-5 to now 8-7, just walked in a run, bases loaded, two outs. Pomeranz in to try to preserve the win.
  18. The least likely to hit the game-winner comes through in Adam Engel. This is a game that the last decade, 7-8 times out of 10 in KC the bullpen would somehow figure out a way to blow it.
  19. Sal Perez scares me more with RISP against the White Sox. He must have a career .350-.375 average.
  20. We'll take that one. Merrifield's too good a hitter to be doing that....much prefer he swing away for XB hit.
  21. Speaking of sideways tilting hats, Fernando Rodney at age 43 signed. Prevented a runner at 2B there, Abreu's defense this year has been significantly sharper.
  22. Walk seems pretty much inevitable here.
  23. K.Herrera blames recently career struggles with the foot injury in Washington...changed mechanics, got hurt, lost his control in the strikezone. Great scouting work there.
