  1. Well, the other way to look at this is we basically have to go 23-26 the next 49 games. Whether we have the type of staff to win a sudden death or playoff series, let's not get too ahead of ourselves just yet. I picked TEN below to trade for this season or look to sign during the offseason. Starting Pitchers Brett Anderson (33) Chase Anderson (33) – $9.5MM club option with a $500K buyout Chris Archer (32) – $11MM club option with a $250K buyout Jake Arrieta (35) Homer Bailey (35) ***Trevor Bauer (30) Tyler Chatwood (31) Anthony DeSclafani (31) Mike Fiers (36) ***Kevin Gausman (30) Gio Gonzalez (35) — $7MM club option with a $500K buyout Cole Hamels (37) J.A. Happ (38) — $17MM vesting option Rich Hill (41) ***Merrill Kelly (32) — $4.25MM club option with a $500K buyout Corey Kluber (35) — $17.5MM club option with a $1MM buyout Mike Leake (33) — $18MM mutual option with a $5MM buyout Jon Lester (37) — $25MM mutual/vesting option with a $10MM buyout ***Mike Minor (33) Matt Moore (32) Charlie Morton (37) — $15MM vesting option Jimmy Nelson (32) — $2MM club option (can become $9MM mutual option based on innings total) Ivan Nova (34) ***Jake Odorizzi (31) ***James Paxton (32) Martin Perez (30) — $6.25MM club option with a $500K buyout Rick Porcello (32) ***Jose Quintana (32) ***Robbie Ray (29) ***Garrett Richards (33) Tyson Ross (34) Jeff Samardzija (36) Anibal Sanchez (37) — $12MM club option with a $2MM buyout Drew Smyly (32) ***Marcus Stroman (30) Masahiro Tanaka (32) Michael Wacha (29) Taijuan Walker (28) Alex Wood (30) Jordan Zimmermann (35)
  2. It would probably take him 2-3 weeks to be in "game condition," though. Guess it just depends on what he has been doing everyday in the last 8 months or so. Same with a guy like Dozier who was released over the summer camp (SD).
  3. That said, with this offense, he's the perfect pitcher to keep them in games....giving up 2-3-4 runs per start, but usually not getting blown out of the water. It's not like there are many "magic bullet" solutions out there that don't have a bundle of flaws or aspects of their game we can't pick apart. What we can't afford is a repeat of the 2000-2004 revolving door of garbage 5th/6th/7th starters.
  4. Right now, they have Berrios, Maeda (awesome, so far), Homer Bailey, Dobnak, Smeltzer, Lewis Thorpe...Pineda should be out for entire 60 games for PED's. But yeah, that's definitely a MINEFIELD after their first two starters. Dobnak has been surprisingly resilient, and Smeltzer's a classic #5/swingman guy. Bailey was cast adrift by the KC Royals of all teams. JHOULYS CHACIN is one of MANY starters that Rick Hahn should be looking at, released by Twins this summer but Opening Day starter for Milwaukee as recently as a year or two ago.
  5. Hendricks Darvish Lester Alec Mills T. Chatwood Arguably, they don't NEED Quintana, at least not NOW, but as we all know from the White Sox trials and travails, we're already down 3 starters in Lopez/Rodon/Kopech and counting...not to mention Lambert as a depth rotation piece. Epstein would likely be CRUCIFIED if he turned the White Sox into a playoff/World Series opponent for the Cubs. Unlikely, sure. But the first trade was so lopsided, the second one he'd have to force an overpay just to seem like he wasn't getting fleeced the second time around. There are still quite a few fans who are upset about losing Jimenez/Cease, Gleyber Torres, Jorge Soler, DJ LeMahieu, Josh Donaldson, Josh Harrison, Chris Archer and that burly Kruk-like 1B/DH on the Mariners, etc.

  7. Purdue University website. Government website. Mitchell Elias Daniels Jr. (born April 7, 1949) is an American academic administrator, businessman, author, and retired politician who served as the 49th Governor of Indiana, from 2005 to 2013, as a Republican. Since 2013, Daniels has been president of Purdue University. Shocking stuff here, I realize.... (CNN) A Georgia second grader tested positive for Covid-19 after attending the first day of school, the school district told CNN. Sixes Elementary in the Cherokee County School district began in-person classes on Monday. But by Tuesday, a classroom was temporarily closed for deep cleaning and the teacher and 20 other students had been asked to quarantine for two weeks after the second grader tested positive. Parents and officials have debated whether it is safe to send students back into classrooms as virus cases have surged across the country. While health experts are still investigating how children spread the virus, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci has emphasized that schools need to include safety in their reopening plans. Cherokee County recommends, but does not require, that children wear masks in school whenever social distancing is not possible, according to the school district's reopening plan. The district would only require students to wear masks if there was a statewide mandate in place. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has fought mayors' attempts to mandate mask use.
  8. As a fanbase, the high water mark since Tuesday, May 10th, 2016. At 23-10, about to lose 13-11 to the Rangers, and eventually trade James Shields for Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis, Jr. By Saturday, May 28th, the lead in the division would be lost for good. Three years and four months of terrible White Sox baseball/rebuilding would follow.
  9. You mean D-Weezy's?
  10. Down to last strike three times in a row....OMG.
  11. JFC. If they lose this game, after Madrigal and EE...it would be a TERRIBLE gut punch if ever there was one.
  12. GAMEL UP NEXT. G-DAMN it Colome. You can't kill off the White Sox fanbase with myocardial infractions.
  13. Grandal saved the runner being in scoring position at least. Ironic, with Narvaez up there simultaneously.
  14. DAMMIT, Colome. Plays like those ALWAYS come back to bite the defense in the 9th inning, seemingly.
  15. 2016 I think our high water mark was around 19-10 (unless it was 23-10) before collapsing in TEXAS...
  16. Got him to chase one way down in the strike zone. 13 K's. One more out to go.
  17. Especially against Smoak and Ryon Healy.
  18. Seen that AVI swing about 5,000 times now...reaching out for it and hooking it to the left side.
  19. White Sox now 2/22 (.091) with RISP...yikes. Two wins in that situation would be like a miracle, especially on the road.
  20. Should be a single and an error on the pitcher's throw. Robert up to .364, showing 2/4 in the boxscore, and a walk to boot.
  21. Presence of Grandal behind him forced Counsell/Suter to pitch to Abreu. Worked out that time.
  22. Clayton Richard pitching for the Brewers there. Everyone watching at home SHOUTING at the t.v. DON'T THROW THAT DAMNED BALL AWAY DOWN THE RF LINE.
  23. 11 strikeouts looking. High this year in MLB, well, at least tied for that
  24. Unless it's Ozzie with Addison Reed in 2012, definitely Colome until he loses the job. He only had 9-10% blown saves last year, sub 2.00 ERA in save situations and the closer salary. He might be annoying as heck to watch, but he's been pretty darned effective. A bit reminiscent of the Bobby Jenks save after 2005.
  25. WOW. These Sox relievers are acting like they haven't watched Yelich and Bellinger destroy the NL the last two years. Probably a good thing, no fear/intimidation.
