August, September and May are far and away his three best months by combined three year splits. April around 750, June/July, around 790. Many Latin American players typically start off slower in cold weather outdoor cities, like Alexei as well. http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/33095/type/batting3

What record would this team have in AL? Names!!!
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No. I actually can’t believe another MLB team signed him, that was the most shocking part. I would have thought he’d be playing football at a Division III school in Texas instead. Now, in all likelihood, the magical, Clemente-like powers of Puig will rub off on him. -

What was the probability of the #30 Lat Am signing becoming the #2 prospect in milb? One in a thousand? -
Yet somehow they’re spending $5+ million for a 16 year old Dominican...at any rate, it’s pretty crazy to think probably only 2-3% of baseball fans realize he led the majors in taters last year.

I was thinking that if somehow resurrected his career from the dead, that would be even more embarrassing than Tatis...unlikely, sure. -
So was Beckham, fwiw, at UGA...

The rotation would be much better and bullpen would be better. Eaton, Escobar, Avi, Jose Martinez, Me.Cabrera, Semien, Frazier/Davidson, Flowers/Narvaez, Saladino/Hanson. Outfield would suck having to play Cabrera, but the Indians also tried to get by with him in second half last year. Probably similar offenses, with White Sox having a lot more upside with young players. -
Or Gleyber Torres, another example. Omar Narvaez is now 0 for 9 in Japan, Hahn’s a genius!

Cubans available under new MLB agreement (and other stuff)

Ten of the top names available in the 2019-20 international signing market are profiled by Baseball America’s Ben Badler, all of whom have teams already unofficially attached to their services even though the market doesn’t properly open until July 2. Dominican outfielder Jasson Dominguez and Dominican shortstop Robert Puason are projected for the highest bonuses, each expected to land something around $5MM, with Dominguez linked to the Yankees and Puason connected to the Athletics. http://riveraveblues.com/2019/02/badler-yankees-expected-sign-top-dominican-outfield-prospect-jasson-dominguez-183932/ https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/01/cuban-shortstop-yolbert-sanchez-cleared-to-sign-with-mlb-teams.html Cuban Yolbert SANCHEZ cleared... Sanchez’s stats in his limited professional experience won’t wow anyone — he’s a .297/.338/.345 hitter in 435 plate appearances — but McDaniel and Longenhagen nonetheless paint him as a likely seven-figure bonus recipient due to his raw speed, glovework at shortstop and arm strength — each of which are considered by scouts to be anywhere from above average to plus. Their report notes that scouts view him as the type of prospect who’ll typically command a bonus between $2-4MM. Certainly, that bodes well for the Orioles, who still have upwards of $6MM in their international bonus pool after whiffing on prospects Victor Victor Mesa, Victor Mesa Jr. and Sandy Gaston when the trio signed early in the 2018-19 offseason (the Mesa brothers with the Marlins; Gaston with the Rays). http://baseballdecuba.com/Con-Yoenis-Yera-fuera-Yariel-Rodriguez-es-el-pitcher-favorito-para-el-titulo-de-strikeouts There are other prospects like pitchers Osiel Rodriguez and infielder Malcom Nunez, both of whom will likely sign when the next international signing period begins on July 2; they were potential building blocks for Serie Nacional but left. Outfielder Julio Pablo Martinez, one of Cuba's rising stars, is expected to sign with a big league team when he is granted free agency. He departed the island when he was left off the roster for last year's World Baseball Classic. Supporters of Cuban baseball point to the island's success in international tournaments in the 23-and-under category and younger. There's also the belief that outfielders Yoelqui Cespedes, younger brother of Yoenis, and Victor Victor Mesa could be the face of Cuban baseball in the future. Additionally, there are signs that young pitchers Yariel Rodriguez, Yosimar Cousin, Yosver Zulueta, Javier Mirabel and Pablo Guillen will eventually become leaders on the mound. Infielders Norel Gonzalez, Yolbert Sanchez and Ariel Martinez could also develop into national-team stars. https://www.mlb.com/news/cuba-boasts-rich-tradition-of-talented-players-c265869660 -
Will Nick "The Little Magician" Madrigal be called up this year?

Who will be? -
Mike Trout wasn't extended until after two year. Unless the Cease family was in financial peril, they'd be unlikely to agree to an Astros level underpay like Jon Singleton ($10 million/5 years).

If you think 3B is closer to playing SS than 2B, you've never played high level baseball or been around it. It's called MIDDLE INFIELD, meaning the positions are interchangeable if the arm will play at SS, just a different angle or spin off the bat...and the need more for lateral mobility than fast-twitch reaction (Joe Crede couldn't beat most posters in a race, but he was really quick at 3B). WHAT THE HELL SCOUTING COMMUNITY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Please provide us one iota of evidence on Collins at catcher that doesn't involved a Sox-related "puffy" piece to prop him up as a prospect...

http://southside.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2018/06/05/the-benefits-of-drafting-nick-madrigal/ Logically, there's no reason to bring him up this year and lose any control....but that's never stopped the Sox before. The only rationale for rushing him would be an ill-fated attempt to compete this season, but that's just not going to happen. -
And he was actually injured and power numbers were dramatically down...which goes to show that his defense has moved well above and beyond "career utility guy/supersub."
-
Name one scout or exec not connected to the White Sox who believe that Moncada profiles better at 3B than 2B? This is like the puff pieces arguing that Zack Collins still possesses the ability to be an everyday catcher, all external commentary from the scouting and analytics community to the contrary. Remember, he was a SS coming out of Cuba, so that's a lot more closely aligned with 2B than 3rd.
-
Yes, he'll be getting 75% of the at-bats, at least that's the plan coming out of ST.
-
Well, you know...if we ACTUALLY had a slew of 2-3 fWAR complementary players to build around the young core, then we would be a playoff-contending team, if they can get some stability out of the starting rotation (which is now predicated on either Cease or Kopech being TOR starters). Avi and Narvaez fell into this same range, I think Avi was above it in 2018. What have we developed in the past two years? Daniel Palka? Please don't argue Adam Engel.

Let Busch get picked by the Cardinals...no pun intended, lol. Who the hell is he, anyway, never ever heard that name mentioned before?

A .714 CAREER minor league hitter is not going to project to be better than any player who has been an MLB regular, unless he's a defensive whiz at SS, C or CF. -
That's pretty much exactly what they said about Marcus Semien, Tyler Flowers and Eduardo Escobar. They turned into above-average major league players, if the White Sox simply would have exercised a little bit of patience and actually invested time and effort into tutoring them.
-
If our standard is Profar/Buxton vs. Acuna/Soto/Vladdy/Seager/Bregman, then he's doing just wonderfully...no to mention the White Sox are now going to negate about 50% of his defensive value by sticking him at 3B, where first step reaction/quickness has more of an impact than lateral mobility and athleticism around the bag. Finally, he's got poor hands and his arm is going to be tested a LOT when he juggles or doesn't field balls cleanly, because Abreu isn't a very good 1B, either.
-
Well, he was second on the club in fWAR to Abreu last year, unless Anderson or Moncada snuck in there ahead of him. If Collins and Zavala can't hack it, and we can't convert on Grandal against 10-12 teams...then what's the solution at catcher besides missing out on Rutschman in the draft? Take a chance on Langoliers instead? His pitch framing is already markedly improved this year, according to a lot of scouts who follow the AL West.
