  1. He even criticized my movie reviews for my being a pompous film connoisseur...or words to that effect. At any rate, I find that quite funny because I range from the most completely mainstream stuff imaginable (Pacific Rim or Alita: Battle Angel) to watching every single Academy-nominated performance, well, except Roma.
  2. Don't worry, I won't waste it on Sox season tickets, like I dreamed of doing when I was about 8 or 9...and was under the mistaken youthful illusion that going to 81 major league games per season would be the most amazing thing in the world. And it really was, even back in the 1980's, despite how bad that decade was (outside of 1983). Like Chicago White Sox (the poster, moving to Nashville), I'll relocate (eventually) from China to San Antonio/Austin area (maybe San Marcos or New Braunfels) and get at least a half season plan for the San Antonio Missions. Actually, the first thing I want to do is a 122 day cruise around the world...and see Alaska/Antarctica in the summertime.
  3. It's definitely going to be a fun first two weeks of the season before Jimenez arrives on the scene.
  4. Then WHY THE F#$K DID THEY SPEND FOUR FREAKING MONTHS teasing fans when they simply could have operated under the radar and failed quietly albeit ignominiously...??? Heck, not four months...the last 2-3 years leading into this offseason? Just simply state that the plan is to retain the core of young superstars into their first 2-3 years of FA and supplement as needed with complementary veterans and international players as needed...
  5. What memorable thread or post (besides this one, of course) have you ever contributed to SoxTalk? As Southsider2k5 always says, if you are made so miserable by the White Sox (or someone’s posts or posting style, for that matter), that’s why there is an ignore feature embedded at the site. If you think you’re getting under anyone’s skin....well you should realize most people thrive on criticism, starting with a certain someone in Washington, D.C.
  6. I came up with a whole thread of ideas. Doesn't matter, they’re not going to ever change unless forced to at gunpoint. Papa John’s doesn’t ask their customers when they stop buying the lousy and overpriced product to “problem solve” for them...other than filling out customer satisfaction surveys.
  7. If Hahn is trying to save his job, he has to take Vaughn over Witt and Abrams...he doesn’t have the librrty of waiting 3-5 years for that high school kid to develop, at least not since the Kopech injury and whiffing on Machado.
  8. How did we win from 2003-05 when that #1 Baseball America 2000 minor league class was absolutely decimated by injuries and non-performance? That injury thing is now an excuse only Hahn’s family can get behind. The end. Plus we had four massive hauls via trade to provide a head start or cushion for that eventuality.
  9. There wasn’t anyone out there (the equivalent of Dayton Moore in minor league development)...with more experience than Chris Getz in building a winning foundation? That’s almost unfathomable.
  10. Here we go again...fine, then you can go back to fighting with Fan O Faust instead, as you seem to derive more enjoyment from that ongoing feud than any other.
  11. Bryce Bush. Hopefully his first name is a positive omen.
  12. You’re going to spend equal amounts of time chastising Balta, Dick Allen, Fathom, Chitownsportsfan and Chicago White Sox for assuming the exact same position? At least I was consistent in never believing Hahn could steer this ship away from an iceberg...
  13. If Madrigal learns to turn on the ball and start pulling it for doubles and 12-15 homers per year, he’ll be the Derek Jeter and franchise fan favorite that Gordon Beckham proclaimed himself to be in 2009.
  14. Is that markedly better than “I told/warned you guys from the beginning that rebuilding wasn’t as easy as it appeared” and “White Sox fans aren’t going to support any team that’s not a guaranteed World Series contender, look at 2010 and 2012.” ??? Doesn’t that get old to keep reiterating as well? You’re not going to change the tenor of conversation by placing the blame on the backs of Sox fans...not after what they all just went through this offseason. That will be about as popular a position as taking hamburgers, guns and airplanes away from 33% of the populace.
  15. He won’t hang around like Pujols or Ichiro just to put up numbers...if he’s not close to the best player in the game, he simply walks away.
  16. Except Basabe will miss a good chunk of the season and Herrera/Jones (based on getting crushed every time out) both seem to have some physical problems already...so it’s Colome and Fry who will be the two to hit the ground running from OD. And hopefully Erwin Santana will turn out to be a nice comeback story.
  17. So then we’re essentially stuck with no realistic path outside of regime change...we certainly had the opportunity to spend another $30-50 million that went to the Machado Family and Friends Plan on Latin American talent to supplement the Robert signing period and counterbalance the following year of $300k or below signs. It’s like they rested on their laurels just because they beat out the Cardinals in something/anything. That would have been the wisest course of action. Opportunity missed...or punted on.
  18. Abrams is how big right now? Still growing? His fallback position is CF, yes? Where does his speed grade out? Where is Riley Greene projecting to be drafted at the moment?
  19. Can sit pretty much anywhere you want...no long lines. Still have the Cubs to cheer against. Watching Anderson, Moncada, Jimenez, Robert, Madrigal and maybe Collins/Zavala. Dylan Cease. Lopez, of course. Draft in June with a series of high picks. Trade deadline...hoping against hope to turn our veteran scrubs into legit prospects or at least Palka’s, Leury’s and Yolmer’s.
  20. Nobody imagined how incompetent this front office would be, simply due to the prevailing storyline that Hahn was out from under KW’s bootheels and free to manage all the moves in the most effective way possible fir long-term success...after those initial three blockbuster trades, Hahn was being treated like a god by many, but now he’s more like Icarus, at best. The fans wanted the rebuild, there was just a sense of trepidation about how it would actually play out. Until the Kopech injury and numerous setbacks in terms of performance and injuries, they were 100% on board and willing to give the front office the benefit of the doubt imo.
  21. Lower parking rates and $10 tickets for Family Sundays?
  22. Ohtani is a special situation as a two-way player. With Adolfo, he needed those at-bats during the season, and he definitely proved he belonged in High A. That said, his defensive value is largely going to come from assists in RF, but I’d worry just as much about him eating his way out of the outfield as the TJS not providing him an even better arm than previously.
  23. Well, you can argue waiting it out for Tanaka was at least moderately successful, as opposed to losing him for 18 months in the prime of a contention window.
  24. “The news on Class AA Birmingham right-hander Dane Dunning could have been worse, but it also could have been better. Dunning has a moderate elbow sprain that won’t require surgery, but his season is likely over. Dunning, 23, was examined Wednesday in Chicago by team doctor Nik Verma and will begin a six- to eight-week program of rest and rehab. The Sox said Dunning will begin a throwing program after that, and a plan for his return to pitching will be determined.” From Trib article last June 27th...
  25. Hitting instructor in the Sox Dominican academy along with Keenyn Walker.
