  1. Where did teorey23 or whatever his name was go?
  2. The best pitching staff in baseball ended in May of 2006 when Contreras got hurt in Cincy. Then we came back at the end of the decade with Floyd/Danks...but that 2008 season was just as much about Alexei and Quentin breaking out as stellar pitching. I'd say we JUST got by with the additions of Linebrink and Dotel, enough to barely hold on coming down the stretch when everything seemed to be falling apart until that last week.
  3. Wow...I was actually mentioned on Twitter, he sincerely made my day, lol.
  4. It all happened at a 2 hour lunch that day...that's been reported out officially by the SD Union Tribune writers.
  5. Other than Rabbit, who's more making "bemused" tweets and not staking out a position about Harper going to the White Sox, the wall of insiders has pretty much gone into hiding, with 2-3 exceptions who have been willing to take it on the chin, not that they controlled anything that has transpired. They're being a lot more honest/transparent than WSD and his company/PR shtick to turn around and defend their not spending.
  6. The market is about as limited as it was for James Shields last year....when you consider his position, his lifetime 740 OPS, his splits and the fact that he was terrible the 2nd half of last year. Too bad the Padres already have invested $144 million into Hosmer, or we might find a taker, since he already spent four years of his career there in SD.
  7. Who's that infielder we had from Oklahoma State about 5-6 years ago that Hawk was always raving about? Chance or Chase was his name? I think he played 3B/1B, never really made it past AA successfully.
  8. The Bulls? They're actually on a hot streak for them, who are you referring to? Oh, Sullivan. This has been the year of media bashing, on multiple levels. Some is well-deserved, some borderline unconstitutional.
  9. It's going to be a LONG year. I'm not sure where the realistic compromise is, though...between the "two sides" in this argument about management/ownership. I guess we can just try to enjoy the minor league season again as much as possible, and the Jimenez and hopefully Cease debuts. You're right about one thing, in the sense that complaining/venting/whining about anything isn't going to change the way this ownership group operates. That said, if more and more season ticket holders like Dick Allen completely abandon this franchise, then they're eventually going to have no choice but to take notice, unlike the Bulls, who seemingly have a 30 year grace period.
  10. Bogaerts is the other obvious one on that side of the infield...Goldschmidt, DH types like Martinez and Khris Davis if he doesn't extend with the A's.
  11. 37-39 is more likely...it was actually a bit surprising we didn't bring in Ichiro for marketing purposes there are the end of his career.
  12. Since he didn’t play, probably didn’t miss much. That and the weather was pretty atypically bad and finally broke today.
  13. Those OF lineups before April 12th will be absolutely brutal...and that was the case before any injuries. But picking up Jones, CarGo or Span would most assuredly clinch their annual “winning of the offseason,” right?
  14. Rutherford with 3 hits now...although the Pads’ announcers have him down for 4/4. They also keep bringing up how much Alonso and Jay helped in recruiting Manny to the Padres’ Organization. White Sox 0-3 now, game ovah. Conclusion: Chase Rutherford is our Bryce Harper, or at least Ryan Sweeney.
  15. Well, getting rid of Encarnacion, Gomes, Brantley and Chisenhall, not to mention Miller and Allen...has helped, too.
  16. The Phillies haven’t had six consecutive losing seasons....and the worst cumulative record in baseball over that time period. And referring to “mired in mediocrity,” we have this: For 1901-2018, the White Sox have an overall record of 9211-9126 (a 0.502 winning 'percentage').[3]
  17. At least they tried 3-4 times...at least that’s the number of times they have met, plus informal meeting in Vegas at the Winter Meetings.
  18. Ironically, he also came over from the Orioles...either waiver wire or Rule V. Looks like he became a minor league free agent in December.
  19. Rutherford having the game of the day so far...or McCann.
  20. Now this is a starting lineup that Sox fans and their families/loved ones traveling over to Peoria will love...it’s like they’re almost deliberately trying to downplay it by putting out the very worst starting lineup that we’ll see all spring (hopefully).
  21. You mean $3 million too much...?
  22. Now THAT would be quite the story to tell the grandkids, especially sitting here in China at 2:55 a.m. on a Sunday night. Ukrainian troll farms! Hanley Ramirez just signed a minor league deal with the Indians...that would have been another classic Sox move. Maybe turning their own fanbase against the team was Hahn’s brilliant plan all along to unite the team, like in Major League? And hey, it worked in 2005, Everyone was projecting us for 3rd through last place in the division after losing Ordonez, Lee and Jose Valentin. The negative stuff always stands out more," (Kris) Bryant said. "Negativity sells. People want to read that stuff. I think that's why I'm at where I'm at in baseball. I read one thing and it just motivates me, and it [success] just shuts that person up or proves them wrong. I've been doing that my whole life, so bring it on." The same goes for the Cubs, who also enter this season with doubters. Las Vegas oddsmakers project them to have their lowest win total in five seasons. "We see some of these projections," Bryant said. "They are selling us totally short. That's not a good thing to do, because when our backs are against the wall, we turn it on. It's going to be an exciting season."
