  1. Would have a lot more respect if he simply accepted responsibility. The “buck stops here” as Harry Truman said. Now the culture seems to be more one of avoiding any responsibility and hoping it goes away because the attention span of the public and news media is so short.
  2. We know Chris Correa...formerly of the Cards and serving that lifetime ban...has to be elated Luhnow’s finally getting his comeuppance.
  3. They have totally different personalities, but Cora was pretty much perceived as a sidekick and enabler in the 2009-2011 time period...and that still doesn’t sit well with many. It’s kind of like he should have known the consequences when he hitched his wagon to Ozzie’s. That, and some of the reports about the drinking culture and extracurricular hijinks, just don’t see it ever happening for him.
  4. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/oscars-nominations-lack-diversity-major-144849001.html Awkwafina really got robbed. I know, worst name for an actress/comedian, but The Farewell is an excellent film and she totally plays against character. Not shocked at all the grandmother in that film didn’t get any recognition either, the Academy loves stars (well, except for The Artist.) Not convinced “Us” was quite good enough either, but the point still stands overall on the diversity issue with J-Lo getting passed over for current “it” girl Margot Robbie. That said, there’s no simple solution to this problem that will satisfy PC and anti-PC sides of the argument.
  5. Hard to say, the same thing was said about Davey Martinez year after year when he missed out on managing jobs.
  6. Wonder what Ozzie’s take is, since he’s so close to Cora’s brother...whose chance at managing has pretty much been doomed through guilt by association. And, did Renteria ever attend Camp Cora down in Florida with Alex also present, lol? Probably no such luck.
  7. Last year’s contract was not exactly a bargain by the going rates for Tier C/D starters this offseason...
  8. Well, apparently we haven’t learned from 1917...Hinch has now had two chances to get it right, and he flunked in different ways, both times. Who knows, the White Sox originally drafted him and he has that Stanford connection with KW, but the likelihood of this is 1/1000. Would rather bring in Luhnow to continue revolutionizing the front office, but that would be a direct threat to Hahn. Sometimes that type of direct competition brings out the best in people, at other times, it leads to the Cleveland Browns level of dysfunction and infighting.

  10. This is one of those things where it usually takes 2-3 “successful” movies to break through, whether that’s fair or not. Obviously, that happened much more quickly for Bigelow on Hurt Locker. Obviously, there’s still a bit of the good ‘ol boys club voting that always gets the Academy favorites in there, like Scorsese. Honestly, The Irishman is the only nominated movie I haven’t watched and probably won’t unless it becomes Best Picture. And I don’t think it can be 1917 when it wasn’t even as good as Dunkirk.
  11. Uncut Gems might be a little too gritty, although so is The Irishman. Maybe they’re not fans of the ending. They could have selected one more Best Picture nominee, it ranges from 8-10. A bit tired of Greta Gerwig feeling she deserves the Oscar...LW was very good, but not great, although Ronan and Pugh deserved praise, as well as Laura Dern (two roles this year.) Zellwegger should beat Ronan. Months ago, seemed like Jennifer Lopez would run away with supporting actress for Hustlers, but no nomination. Movie came out too early. Bombshell....Theron and Robbie, imo getting way too much love as well for a movie that would fit in well on the Lifetime monthly rotation without three A-list actresses colliding.

  13. Haha, ooops!....I was reading an article this weekend that asserted the Angels or Padres almost acquired him, which for some reason caused me to forget the Rangers’ deal.
  14. I'm guessing it could equally be applied to QB's, point guards and gritty middle infielders like Eckstein/Pedroia? SIGH. Baseball scouts/front office execs still haven't changed...not THAT much. They do list Royce Lewis (biracial) and Latin American prospect Wander Franco, but can't say it's altogether surprising.
  15. You can add Kluber to this list as well.
  16. Conan the Barbarian? Masters of the Universe?
  17. It's unfortunate we won't get the opportunity to watch a SEA-SF rematch. Just have a feeling that the only way GB can win is at Lambeau...with snow/ice and frozen tundra. Hopefully it turns out to be KC/SF...for entertainment's sake (not that we can't appreciate what Taneyhill, Vrabel and D.Henry are accomplishing.) Don't see this happening with Vrabel having a week to game plan against Hill and Kelce. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/chiefs-literally-run-out-of-fireworks-as-they-pile-up-points-235548542.html
  18. That dropped pass by #17 just killed the Seahawks...that and not stopping Rodgers LIKE EVER on 3rd down.
  19. Jose Ramirez? Not based on last season.
  20. Bryant won't break any contract records unless he puts up another 5-6 fWAR season to follow-up his "pretty decent" (but not by comparing to the standard he sets in his first three seasons) 2019. Plus, the defensive numbers are starting to turn against him.
  21. When Second Best Isn't Good Enough
  22. The layoff and sitting out their starters in the final weekend really ended up catching up with the Ravens. They were just completely out of sync from the very beginning. The Chiefs started out in typical playoff fashion, then were awakened by questionable coaching decisions by O'Brien (FG instead of going for the knockout blow with 4th and inches at the KC 10 and up by 21-0, the play by Sorenson to stop the fake punt that quickly turned 24-0 to 24-14 and made it a real game, and quickly). Tennessee and KC should be a really interesting match-up of two "hot" teams...not so sure about GB playing away from home against the Niners, at least the way SF looked in their game. Then again, Garropolo has never really been tested in a playoff game, and he's going up against one of the best ever in Rodgers.
  23. For the players, I’d go with a reggaeton song, like Gasolina or Rompe. http://readyjessgo.com/2017/08/09/20-reggaeton-songs-that-are-better-than-despacito/ Or some Cuban calypso music... Run Hard. Run Fast. 1 Team, 1 Mission (or you could use Vision) Winning is a Habit, Success is a Choice Go Big or Go Home Respect All, Fear None Practice with a Purpose, Play with (a) Passion It All Starts With Attitude
  24. Just Mercy is a good one. If you like legal dramas, Dark Waters about DuPont chemical pollution with Mark Ruffalo is worth checking out.
  25. Lol. I knew that was coming. Five shots kind of defeats the point of the entire song...it’s more the music and feeling, imo that Gladiator soundtrack (not exact, but similar) was getting tired, but no idea if they still even play that at the beginning with the line-up intros.
