  1. Probably because we could look back at records and see the Cubs, Astros of maybe even Mets making huge one year improvements. If it's mostly on the backs of 5-6 key youngsters...that would be great, we'd all be ecstatic. If it was mostly due to the bullpen picking up 5-7 more wins somehow and particularly due to veterans who were not part of the long-term plan, it's not going to be sustainable...UNLESS those graduating prospects hit the ground ready to play, and Kopech makes a bigger impact than can safely be projected for him the following season. Of course, the other factor is the prospect/s we get in return when/if we decide to flip some of them...Rodon being perhaps the most important in terms of whether he gets traded early or we hold onto him into 2020/21.
  2. Don't forget Anthony Webster and Jeremy Reed... Or McCarthy not being able to break into the 2006 rotation after the way he pitched down the stretch...when they decided to add Javy V.
  3. Discussed into the ground last year. No thanks. Machado or bust! Moustakas deserves to play for a contending team, ceteris paribus.
  4. Are you somehow connected to his agency? This must be the 100th time that I've seen Rondon pushed as a candidate for more regular playing time. Which is about as often as AJ Pollock's name is misspelled, coincidentally.
  5. That's the one I was thinking of....Mads Mikkelson or something is his name. Maybe it's because he was also in the most recent MI film (albeit with no bleeding eye, just submerged in an armored car at the bottom of the Seine.) Great work, I'm on a roll, that was actually Sean Harris.
  6. Wasn't that also one of the Mission Impossible movies? At any rate, let's get Dr. Drew on SoxTalk for an exclusive interview about the positives and negatives of a teammate having his brother-in-law on the same team when they're on the road 90-100 nights per year (unless Mrs. Machado actually travels to every city with him, which is not easy to do but not impossible with nannies and au pairs). Edit: Seems they don't have any children yet, scratch the last part. The pair is deeply and madly in love with each other and is often spotted hanging out and vacations together. If you go across Yainee Alonso and Machado’s Instagram, you see their pictures together with a loving caption. Those photos clearly reflect that the couple is happy together and is supportive of one-another. The duo does not have any child till the date. Also, there is no any news of Yainee Alonso’s pregnancy in the media. The couple is still enjoying their honeymoon phase and is not in a hurry to welcome a new member to their family. The pair is happy with their two dogs. https://thecelebscloset.com/manny-machados-wife-yainee-alonson-married-children-career/ Why didn't we get Mark Buehrle involved in the recruiting, speaking of dog lovers...?
  7. You have to give kudos to any guy with such a strong Eastern European accent who looks like he’s late 40’s/early 50’s somehow coming up with $5-7.5 million or whatever to finance that thing. Where the money actually originated is one of the great mysteries in modern cinema. The sad part was his belief in his acting skills and that he could pass for 35ish, but you still have to admire his grit, gumption and determination to see it through all the way to the premiere.
  8. Some got caught up in the Ken Harrelson hype machine and forgot to monitor the actual results.
  9. The best part was the way they winged the football at each other at 90 miles per hour from 10-15 feet away. And the aunt who just suddenly threw a terminal illness into the storyline. And the whole drug dealing subplot...or just any scene with that creepy guy who was supposed to be playing a kid. But the best mockumentary of all-time is still “American Movie” to me. Waiting for Guffman comes in a close second.
  10. Well, Avi just LOOKS like he can potentially hit 30 homers and steal 30 bags per season. The White Sox version of Willie Mays Hayes, except for that anomalous 2017 All-Star breakout before regressing to the mean.
  11. No, only Clint Eastwood’s son in Gran Torino still sports the backward hat look. It did work for me about a decade ago in Colombia, but that was a Sox fitted hat I wore so often that it looked worse for wear than Bobby Jenks’ by the time it faded, got all salt-streaked and shrunk down to 7 3/8. In my opinion, men over 40 should never try for that look...unless they’re playing Ray Kinsella’s dad in Field of Dreams.
  12. But it became one of the most memorable movies of all-time, just like Ed Wood. In fact, the story of making it is far more interesting than the actual movie itself, which is the hallmark of any attempt to put yourself out there and try to do something great and offer yourself up for stardom or rejection. That’s pretty much the exact same story as Searching for Sugarman, about a musician who believed he was completely rejected by the world for almost three decades...but never gave up trying to fix things and make the world better in his own unique way. He never surrendered his optimism in the face of a series of setbacks. It’s the quintessential American story of failure, unrequited love and a heroic comeback for the protagonist. In the end, isn’t it better to be loved or hated than to leave no impression whatsoever? Time will tell.
  13. Yet he was cost-controlled, and fourth in the majors offensively. Actually, along with Abreu, the only other position you could say that. So while Narvaez might never repeat his numbers at Safeco, the odds of whoever we acquire via flip for Colome (who’s not exactly being underpaid) being a key contributor...or the Sox not having any catching issues to resolve all over again in 2020/21?, well, it is what it is.
  14. Sure, if I can write a post without everyone worrying how many names are mentioned in said post or intentionally trying to mimic my style to get more “likes” because we are middle schoolers for the first time on social media.
  15. That would probably lower my “social rating” by the Chinese Government from a 5 down to a 2 or 3 and prevent me from boarding any commercial aircraft to leave the country. Any other bright ideas for settling this?
  16. Negligibly, out of 52,000+ posts, but it would still shift slightly from a mathematical standpoint.
  17. I guess some people are easily amused these days. When the president of the United States talks in the same way to thousands of people, jumping around from subject to subject it’s “unique” and “refreshing.” For that matter, Ed Farmer could easily outdo Trump on a typical Sox broadcast, or Jason Benetti bringing up Fernando Rodney’s post-closing antics in a random Appalachian State football game where maybe 1/2 of 1% of the viewing audience has even heard of Fernando Rodney in the first place. Yet I have somehow never managed to make as many grammatical mistakes as he makes in one month as I have made in over a decade. Managed to limit it to 4 names, too.
  18. Sure, because every fan of those teams cares so much about the #6 team on the Pro Sports Misery Index that they make over 50,000 posts here and none on a Royals or Cardinals board. Ban bet. Find one post that I’ve ever made on one of those team’s boards or retract your insult, lol. And my life would be SO much easier if I had been born to a family like that...where rooting for the Cardinals was in my blood. If only my favorite uncle from Dubuque had liked the Cubs instead of the White Sox, I could even have been a Cubs’ yuppie. In fact referring to your own nickname, I’ve probably read and watched Field of Dreams, Eight Men Out and been more often to the actual field in Dyersville than any poster on this board. Back when we used to think John Cusack was more a Sox fan and not a poser, we even went to all the Chicago bars he used to frequent because of his connection through the movie.
  19. He’s grindy. That’s all that matters. That and securing the services of Machado. If he doesn’t become part of that scenario, his time with the organization and association with said failure will last as long as Peter Bourjos’ Sox career.
  20. I just received an e-mail from board moderators that any post with more than 5 names listed in one conversation will result in a 10 day ban because the attention span of Millennials today is just too short, so there’s that.
  21. Too many names, too long, didnt read. At least I end my sentences with a period. Maybe I should change and start writing like peavy44?
  22. How is that irrelevant when the previous poster said my range of names listed is between 5.5 and 6.5 per post?
  23. I wish I had $1 for any time someone on a Sox-related message board opined that so and so signing for XXX amount of dollars wouldn’t have ANY effect on future payroll additions, oh, let’s say since 2006. Then I could at least be as rich as Eric or Donald Jr. Just two names, although neither are baseball-related due to foot related injuries.
  24. It’s going to be a lot more than that if Hahn fails to land Machado...of course, at that point, there will be pretty much nothing left to talk about until Jimenez’s debut. There you go, by the way, 3 names. -3 is lowering the mean/median/mode significantly.
  25. That’s the old Ozzie rule. Juan Pierre, come on down. The only one you can really argue is Basabe, but odds are his offensive weaknesses would be quickly exposed with where he’s at right now. It’s possible if he gets really hot in the minors, they might see if they can catch lightning in a bottle, but counting on it would be about as wise as the Sox penciling Burdi into their late season playoff run the year he was drafted.
