You can pretty much forget the idea of Quintana going anywhere else (if it was ever possible) with this news for the Cubs.

New unwritten rule: MLB managers should have to notify the other team when they're starting an "opener" to be piggybacked with a starter so that managers can set their line-ups accordingly, for the "second pitcher" (who will go 2-4 innings, perhaps) and not the guy who might only pitch just a single inning (like Foster with the White Sox)... https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/statcast?type=batter&year=2020&position=&team=&min=q&sort=6&sortDir=desc MLB Exit Velocity leaders...lots of White Sox in the Top 50. Eloy, Abreu, Anderson and Robert. Provides some support for Gregory Polanco being a better idea in RF than almost anyone has countenanced.

Jon Garland once refused to do this for Ozzie...he missed on like three consecutive brushback pitches, in fact. There was one other White Sox pitcher that famous had an issue with Coop/Ozzie and refused to drill the other team when called to do so. Btw, our old friend Don Wakamatsu managing the Rangers today. And there's one more thing about this Padres' situation. It's pretty much insane the umpires didn't even issue a warning to the pitcher who threw behind Machado (and he was just suspended for 3 games.) Pretty weird all around, when you have two of the most high-profile players in baseball involved. Obviously quite blatant/intentional. UNREAL. Another grand slam in Texas, this one from Wil Myers off Mike Minor. This is going to get testy if the Rangers begin to get frustrated...and you can definitely CANCEL any White Sox interest in acquiring Minor, fwiw.

Here's another point to consider. The Padres have already blown something like 15 leads this year (at different points in games, as opposed to just BS category). Their closer from last year, Yates, is likely out for the season...their supposed dominant RH set-up guy, Pagan, who came over from the Rays, has been hot garbage. Stammen and Strahm have been pretty bad, too. They've recently been forced to make Pomeranz into a situational closer, in fact. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=0&season=2020&month=0&season1=2020&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2020-01-01&enddate=2020-12-31&sort=11,d Padres tied for 3rd in MLB with 5 blown saves already. Only the Astros and Angels have been worse in this category (White Sox with just one.)

8-18 GT: Tigers at Sox
The dreaded, "day to day" injury? Any reason to think it could end up being worse?

That’s not how he thinks or is programmed. The Padres wouldn’t have brought up Paddack and Tatis for Opening Day last year if they felt they were selfish, “me first” players. He’s just having a lot of fun, not thinking too much...seeing the ball and hitting the ball wherever it’s pitched.

That sounds about right...do they perchance play again this year or just a one-off? If they still go after Tatis today, it’s going to result in a massive, social-distance challenging brawl...and you’re endangering the career of one of the top 3-5 future faces of the sport.

What the heck is going on? Did the DNC Convention thread just take over?

Stroman: I stand with Tim Anderson
Should be eres...remember that “joke” being constantly bandied back by players and even coaching staff to players back in the mid 90’s. Totally different environments in terms of political correctness and whats considered permissible in a clubhouse (see Ozzie and the blow up doll controversy with Swisher, 2008.)

Sox playoff chances sit at 100%, 3rd in AL for WS odds
That’s basically the MiLB system. Works for me, creates two seasons with fresh starts and renewed rooting interest...

Well said.- Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
Love TA. 115.5 MPH exit velocities are GOOD for the game, generally speaking.- Tigers call up 3 top 100 prospects.

Like Alex Colome, for example, haha...fwiw, flamboyant is perhaps the best word choice here, especially Cubans and Dominicans.- Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
I’m kind of shocked most are siding with Tatis here. That said, hard to believe there’s an issue here at all if not on the road...if not the #11 (MLB leader over Trout) homer of the early season and especially if no existing “special relationship” between Tingler and Woodward? Unless he reads the local newspaper pregame in team hotel, he's not going to be aware of all this context...as it’s doubtful Tingler specifically brought it up in any way like, “let’s get these guys, my personal pride’s on the line here facing my personal mentor in the sport, etc.”- Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
Or 1967, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 (TCQ injury), 2010, 2012 and 2016? What about the year Dunn (2011) became front page news in The NY Times and WSJ? 1959 World Series? Jerry Dybzynski? Tito Landrum?- The LEGEND of Luis Robert ESPN feature article
