  1. “Steel pricing is usually relatively stable,” said Al Rheinnecker, CEO of American Piping Products in Chesterfield, Missouri, which distributes steel pipe to numerous industries. But “since April, you can quote something on Monday, and if the customer doesn’t buy it right away, you may have to raise the price on Thursday.” So far, Rheinnecker has managed to pass along the higher costs to his customers. He’s not sure how long that will last. The Commerce Department is allowing companies to request exemptions from the steel and aluminum tariffs — if they can show that the metals they need aren’t available from Americans producers. The department expected 4,500 requests. But it’s been overwhelmed by more than 20,000. This week, it said it has processed just 98 requests so far, approving 42 and denying 56. The rising tensions and the chaos surrounding the steel and aluminum tariffs are starting to generate pushback on Capitol Hill. Senators this week grilled Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. “As you consider these tariffs, know that you are taxing American families, you are putting American jobs at risk, and you are destroying markets — both foreign and domestic — for American businesses of all types, sorts and sizes,” said Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah. Economists and trade analysts worry that there may be no way out of an all-out trade war between the United States and its most vital trading partners. “The president has been so belligerent that it becomes almost impossible for democratically elected leaders — or even a non-democratic leader like (Chinese president) Xi Jinping — to appear to kowtow and give in,” said Philip Levy, senior fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and a former White House trade adviser. “The president has made it very hard for other countries to give him what he wants.” https://www.yahoo.com/news/president-trump-struck-first-blow-074241907.html
  2. It’s going to be telling whether Renteria forces the team out for extra defensive practice tomorrow after the long DH today/tonight...
  3. Should have been another error....probably on SANCHEZ, but Abreu didn’t play it (the throw) well at all. Now nobody’s covering second base, lol. What else can they do wrong today?
  4. https://amp.mlb.com/282378308-white-sox-supportive-of-reynaldo-lopez.amp.html Not sure what to make out of Anderson’s laughing, but it is what it is at this point...
  5. Mental error # what this season? Maybe it’s the players...not Guillen/Ventura/Renteria. Not sure which is worse to contemplate...that we are terrible at evaluation, probably. It would be nice to believe another staff could magically fix things, but how realistic is that? Everyone remembers how well the 2012 team played for Ventura on defense for most of that season...then it all just went south for the rest of his managerial tenure.
  6. Except the party apologists who are betting their retirement assets are better off with GOP policies...are quite different from the Trump Forever crowd who would excuse him shooting someone (especially a liberal/elite/member of the MSM) in the broad light of day at 5th & Broadway. On the other hand, liberals quickly turned on Franken when multiple allegations came out...Otoh, with Roy Moore, Trump just kept doubling down because they thought he could still win. Then conveniently ran away from accepting blame when he lost.
  7. For as long as I can remember, it has been Bob Rosenberg. You can try, but it will probably not have the effect on scoring you wish for...although hard hit balls almost always go to the advantage of the home team player. Sometimes the front office staff might even say something, but they’re probably not going to appeal their own scorer’s decision to NY.
  8. Either a umpire’s wife, fiancée or gf....Rosenberg is too old to have a wife Moncada would actually be pursuing!
  9. You can still play the game the right way. The fans deserve that much, at least. Proper fundamentals, full effort. It’s not just Moncada and Leury. Engel earlier in the game threw to 3b when he would have had to make a perfect throw and the trail runner reached 2b. Little things like that add up over the course of a season. I don’t know if Jirschele, Vizquel or McEwing can do any better...but if one of the top 5 defenders of all-time can’t make an impact, this rebuild is in serious trouble, because we will be right back to those 2000-2004 teams who win by slugging you into submission. Maybe that’s going to have to be good enough, if the Sox can make it to the playoffs in 2 out of 4 years again.
  10. 8 runs, 1 earned for Shields...that has to be some kind of modern day Sox record, doesn’t it?
  11. Moncada needs to be sent down if he keeps this up defensively. He has to earn his playing time. 11 errors, and most of them have led to big innings and lots of extra pitches. Leury should have been pulled from the game as well. No excuse for being lackadaisical, complete lack of effort and focus.
  12. Because waiting two more weeks would give newly-drafted players only July and August to play (short season teams) in their draft year...assuming they signed quickly.
  13. OSU big chance here to blow this game wide open...
  14. No Greg. Try Watergate, 1968, Civil Rights era, etc.
  15. Rutschman actually did something bad for a change...but will surely get an opportunity to redeem himself later.
  16. Yeah, hard to see Kopech realistically retaining his status as top Rh pitching prospect in the game over these last couple of months...unless we throw out results/performance and only go with potential.
  17. If he was deliberately ignored, he would do one of two things. Force/compel the media to cover him (threatening to ban or arrest) with an Executive Order, or 2) do something so unhinged like declare a nuclear war or double the amount of tariffs on China (beyond the actual amount of Chinese goods exported) so that there would be no choice but to cover it.
  18. June 21, 2018 The ruling elites are creating a world where the majority of people suffer the consequences of the climate crisis and massive unemployment while the super-rich use artificial intelligence to save themselves – a commentary by TRNN’s Senior Editor https://therealnews.com/stories/the-billionaire-class-is-not-fit-to-rule-paul-jay Let’s try an experiment. Those on the right wing side of things can tell us how this “radical/liberal/alarmist” propaganda is objectively incorrect. We will counter with Pizza Gate, Obama was not born in Hawaii, Uranium One, Seth Rich and Heather Heyer (Charlottesville) was not murdered by car but actually suffered a heart attack. https://www.thenation.com/article/seth-rich-conspiracy-theorists-and-russiagate-truthers/
  19. Wonder if Basabe was even close...? Guess there would be about a 50/50 split between scouts on Rutherford vs. Adolfo long-term...
  20. Imagine Michelle Obama had visited poor white Appalachian kids (hooked on opioids) in that same outfit. She would be hung in effigy throughout the former states of the Confederacy. Outraged 24 hour coverage, guaranteed. You would still be hearing about it on Fox decades from now....whereas all this Melania stuff will simply blow over in one or two news cycles.
  21. Hotel Artemis was a very.ambitious film...didnt quite get there, but it's definitely worth checking out. Jodie Foster is always good, this was a strange role for her to wait five years in between films.
  22. Funny to see Trey M. hitting cleanup for the Barons...three new lineup members in Booker, Basabe and Call. Any updates on the Charlotte weather situation?
  23. At least in MLB, you can sign older international free agents...in the NBA, you’re pretty much stuck with the draft or being the best at “winning trades” consistently, which hasn’t exactly been the Bulls’ forte.
  24. He was so overshadowed by Bagley that he tended to become a bit stagnant and float around the perimeter as a secondary scoring option. He’s not flashy, he’s a solid pick for sure, but I can also understand fans wanting a game changer. He’s certainly not going to sell any tickets by himself, for some reason he reminds me of Drew Gooden, actually.
