Thought the new Spanish coach was going to have to be carted off in an ambulance. Spain had two huge breaks there...probably never should have been allowed the corner in the first place, Morocco was like the White Sox there in terms of getting the benefit of the call. Almost like, well you guys don’t really belong here, so let’s figure out any possible way to advance Spain.

Sure, but baseball is also about emotion and sentiment...trying to put everything into numbers or metrics does it a disservice. Do we all need to watch The Sandlot, Bull Durham or Major League? Something’s not getting translated from the boyhood wonder and awe at the sport...there are no longer iconic “heroes” like Roberto Clemente you could look up to for inspiration. There used to be a time where everyone would listen to World Series on the radio or skip school to watch the games during the day. It was an essential part of the fabric of the country, like baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet. It’s the James Earl Jones speech in Field of Dreams, or father’s playing a backyard game of catch with their sons. And when’s the last time you heard of anyone skipping something for baseball...maybe just the World Series parades in Chicago?

If the White Sox had the Cubs’ run over the last three years, we wouldn’t be having this conversation, arguably. Maybe it would be better to ask Mariners and Padres fans, the only two fanbases waiting longer for a return to the playoffs. For some reason, their (SD) games continue to be well-attended despite being in a long rebuild and facing dominant franchises like the Dodgers and Giants in the same division. Back to the marketing point...except for iconic franchises like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs and Dodgers, the sport has evolved into a “regional” one, with teams like the Cardinals still having quite limited appeal on a national basis. Forget about the Sox, Royals or Indians. That’s something adding teams in Canada and Mexico won’t fix. Otoh, the opening up of baseball gambling and the demographic trends of more Asians and Hispanic Americans are largely positive for baseball (well, except Chinese!) and football/soccer.

If Trump personally went to the border and shot an illegal immigrant (probably has never shot a gun, so I’dm doubtful) or killed a black person in broad daylight on 5th & Broadway...I actually believe he’d get an approval spike of 3-5%. That’s the scary part about our country today. The seething resentment on both sides just boiling over. The Left is tired of getting walked over, being willing to compromise or working in a bipartisan fashion...why? There’s been zero payoff in the last 20-25 for being “reasonable” in politics. Bill Clinton was “reasonable” to Republicans because he torched the social safety net, worked to make criminal justice even lest just and ended welfare as we know it. What has the Left gotten? The tepid ACA, which has practically been wiped out except for the sheer incompetence of the GOP to actually govern (giving away our future with unpaid tax cuts and spending nearly $1 trillion on defense is not exactly hard to do) or even to articulate a foreign affairs/diplomatic policy. Seriously, then plan is really Jared Kushner to bring peace in the Middle East? How low does our country have to sink before we bottom out and rebound?

2006? What would you call that? A firm rebuke, but not a rout?

She can date #bbqbecky and the white woman who called the police on the little girl outside of AT&T Park for having the temerity to be entrepreneurial by selling water. When’s the last time a black prison called the police on the Girl Scouts cookie crew or a local lemonade stand...probably about never?

If it was that simple, the Tea Party wouldn’t have so effectively wiped out Obama’s majorities in 2010...as the shouting down of Democratic town hall meetings was widespread, just like the liberal pushback in 2017 and 2018 to Trump policies has been. We can argue whose policies or methods are more/most extreme. In the end, more gridlock and our country continually more polarized. It makes no sense why it would work for one side but not the other. Turnabout is fair play, right?

President Trump weighed in Monday on the story that dominated America’s social media feeds over the weekend: White House press secretary Sarah Sanders being asked to leave a small restaurant in rural Virginia because its staff disagreed with her defense of the administration’s policies. And the commander in chief used the bully pulpit of the presidency to disparage the restaurant’s appearance. “The Red Hen Restaurant should focus more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) rather than refusing to serve a fine person like Sarah Huckabee Sanders,” Trump tweeted. “I always had a rule, if a restaurant is dirty on the outside, it is dirty on the inside!” https://www.yahoo.com/news/needs-paint-job-trump-blasts-virginia-restaurant-asking-sarah-sanders-leave-130000156.html Now the president is breaking the ethics rules, too.

An Oregon woman who works for the Department of Transportation was suspended after she allegedly made remarks on Facebook calling for illegal immigrants to be shot at the Mexican border. The department announced on Thursday that a member of staff had been placed on leave after the post was widely shared on social media. Lori McAllen, who has since deleted all of her social media accounts, reportedly wrote on Facebook: “I personally think they should shoot them all at the border and call it good… it’ll save us hardworking AMERICANS billions of dollars on our taxes !! ;)” The offensive post was shared along with her Twitter bio, which read: “I don’t have room in my heart for drama, disrespect or hate.. either love your life or make a change!” http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/06/22/oregon-dot-employee-suspended-after-facebook-post-calling-on-immigrants-to-be-shot.html Since she’s blonde and fairly attractive, does she get a Trump admin job or Fox News offer first?

For me, it’s really tough to compare the first three with the lt two because of the nostalgia effect of the first group...especially the cultural impact of the very first one. With KP, 4 and 5 are so different that the mixed feelings are understandable from critics and viewers, personally I would probably come down slightly in favor of 4 for the same reason Star Wars fans liked the 7th film in that series (basically a recreation) so much.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/25/politics/trump-immigration-trade-rhetoric/index.html Trump attempts to double down by ratcheting up the rhetoric We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country," Trump wrote in a tweet that hammered undocumented migrants on Sunday. Trump: Deport without 'judges or court cases' "When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came. Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and Law and Order," he wrote. The President also intensified his assault on trade -- like immigration, a pillar of his 2016 election campaign -- a few weeks ahead of a trip to Europe looming as yet another clash with America's closest allies. "The United States is insisting that all countries that have placed artificial Trade Barriers and Tariffs on goods going into their country, remove those Barriers & Tariffs or be met with more than Reciprocity by the U.S.A.," he wrote. "Trade must be fair and no longer a one way street!" ... Indications over the weekend however were that the steps the administration is using to deal with the human toll of separations will cause a new round of controversy. CNN's Tal Kopan, citing an administration official, reported that immigrants in detention were being offered the chance to sign voluntary deportation orders to be removed from the country more quickly than if they waited for a judge. Separated parents given option for voluntary deportation amid child reunification In the case of parents separated from their kids, they're also told that if they sign the paperwork, then they will be reunited -- if they choose to be -- before they are deported from the country.

See article above. This was actually a Clinton voting county, fwiw. In her mind, serving Sanders would have cost her even more business with the Left-leaning crowd when word got out, and also the respect of her employees. At any rate, it’s dangerous for any business in this environment. Papa John miscalculated badly on the whole NFL situation (initially siding with Trump, then backtracking), and it cost him his company (sure, still controlling interest but no longer the public face.)

Trump would fire him on the spot. They simply don’t believe in apologies, philosophically. The closest ever was the grabbing the girls by the @#$&*, but even that was half-hearted.

https://sports.yahoo.com/news/white-sox-trainer-herm-schneider-is-team-s-secret-weapon-142008464.html I suggest a refresher course is in order. It’s a bit dated, but I also would argue we’re one of the few organizations out there who could have put Jake Peavy back together again. Frank Thomas swears by him. Other than Danks (labrum/shoulder), what core franchise players recently have missed huge amounts of time (and, no, Avi Garcia doesn’t count.)

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/24/opinions/heckle-trump-admin-opinion-obeidallah/index.html The real reason Sanders was asked to leave... I feel that denying service to a person is instinctively troubling. For many, it may conjure up laws that banned blacks from being served at restaurants before the Civil Rights Act and the current campaign by some on the right to turn away same-sex couples who want professional services for their weddings. Or even a gun range owner who declared that no Muslims were allowed on the premises. But the situations with Sanders and even Nielsen are not even in the same universe as these discriminatory examples. No one is targeting them for their race, religion or sexual orientation. The backlash is because they have freely chosen to be a part of the Trump administration and have personally defended Trump's policies. In fact, Nielsen has served up lies while championing Trump's family separation policies while Sanders even invoked the Bible, telling reporters, "it is very biblical to enforce the law." I understand why some people targeted high-profile Trump administration officials, but I am concerned about what will we see in response. Newton's third law of motion -- "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction" -- applies not just to physics, but perfectly to our hyperpartisan nation. Given our politics today, that law should actually be updated to: "For every action, there's an overreaction." How long until Trump's fans counter by hanging signs in their stores, restaurants and bars that read "No liberals allowed" or "Trump supporters only." I bet that would play well in certain red states. And would progressives in blue states respond in kind? From a legal point of view, a person can be asked to leave a privately owned establishment because of their political views. For example, In April, a judge in New York City dismissed a lawsuit by a Trump supporter who wore a "Make American Great Again" hat to a bar and was asked to leave. But applying this to the average American divides us even more as a nation and makes it less likely that we can ever return to being the United States of America. Going forward, it's likely that we will see more people speak out against Trump officials who publicly defend his cruel policies. The reality is that for many, the stakes are simply too high to remain silent as Trump attempts to radically transform our nation from the United States into Trumpistan.
