Jake Burger out for season with ruptured Achillies Tendon
caulfield12 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The most significant injuries have been Jenks, Crede, Danks, Floyd/Crain...now Rodon. We've been pretty fortunate. Herm Schneider. I can't remember his name, Allen Thomas or something like that, strength and condition people have always had strong reps in the industry. We've seemingly lost lots of guys like Tilson and Leury and Davidson and Kevan Smith and numerous relievers (not counting Covey, mercy DL) over the last 2-3 years. But not really a franchise-altering situation, like the Jared Mitchell one (had he actually been the player the Sox projected). Adolfo has always been injury prone. With Burger, you just kind of expected it at that size...just not this quickly (see Kyle Schwarber). -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 02:53 PM) Yeah, Trump would have gone in there without a weapon. For sure. has admitted to finding the sight of blood “disgusting.” In a 2008 interview with Howard Stern, Trump told the shock jock that he turned away from an injured elderly man who had fallen off the stage at a Mar-a-Lago benefit because he couldn’t stomach the sight of blood. Dont forget Megyn Kelly and the reaction to Mika’s plastic surgery...

Jake Burger out for season with ruptured Achillies Tendon

The good thing here is it’s the left...as a RH power hitter, the right leg is much more critical. -
At least Clinton and GW Bush were smart enough not to ever say that about Vietnam or 9/11-Iraq-Afghanistan with their respective service records demonstrating the exact opposite of courage...

If Rutgers was good, and had a significant bb fanbase...it would make a lot more sense. Or even PSU, plus Maryland is down this year as well.

QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 08:01 AM) Or Andrelton Simmons ranked 17th at SS, sandwiched between Paul De Jong and Tim Beckham. Obviously not overweighting defense. But the White Sox have historically pursued how many elite defenders with limited offensive upsides to play half their games at USCF?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 07:43 AM) For f***’s sake Caulfield, those rankings have JD Martinez over Stanton in RF. That tells me everything I need to know about the validity of using these for real world purposes. Lots of players have struggled in NY, especially NL to AL... Another example, David Price in Boston.

I’ll go back to the Dyson example, a consistently 2.5-3.5 war player the last 3-4 years. 2 years, $7.5 million, age 33 Todd Frazier, 24th at 3b, $17 million for 2 years, age 32 Avi Garcia, last year was the 4th-7th best RFer depending on which stat/service you chose, expected to regress to 17th, seems about right...doesn't it?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:47 AM) These are fantasy baseball rankings. Are you really using them to justify a Moose signing? You disagree with the Top 10? Who/why?

https://rotochamp.com/baseball/PlayerRankin...tType=RotoChamp Daniel Pecota 3B rankings, Yolmer 40th, Davidson 52nd out of 124 ranked. Moustakas 12th Arenado 1, Bryant 2, Donaldson 3, Machado 6, Rendon 8th Justin Turner, if the Dodgers let him go eventually or pursue one of the Big 4, is 9th. Then Devers and Beltre 10th and 11th. Moustakas followed by Travis Shaw, Seager (who some want to pursue), Castellanos, Longoria, Marwin Gonzalez, Eugenio Suarez, Zack Cozart. Frazier 24th. Moncada 22nd, Tim Anderson 20th, Abreu 6th, Leury 61 and Delmonico 64 for LF, Leury 55th for CF, W Garcia 81, Cordell 84, Engel and May 93/94 out of 96 for CF, Avi Garcia 17th for RF, W.Castillo 10th at catcher/TFlow 17th So Moustakas would be the third highest ranked at his position on the Sox, after Abreu/Castillo...Avi 4th.

https://www.mlb.com/news/twins-should-sign-...ynn/c-267222472 Why the Twins needs to go ahead and add Arrieta/Lynn/Cobb to Odorizzi and Morrison Were the Twins rebuilding? Well, yes...but they also are going to lose Mauer (had to keep due to contract), Santana and Dozier. They had to be super patient with Buxton, who still had JUST a 727 OPS last year but had huge defensive value in CF. Sano went through his sexual harassment allegations. They've always been a "low budget" operation (other than Mauer deal) for much of the last 20-30 years, despite Pohlad being one of the richest owners in baseball. If you look at their "rebuild," it has largely been based on castoffs and vets like Robbie Grossman, Erwin Santana, Eduardo Escobar, Kepler, Vargas and Edwin Rosario. They have their "theoretically awesome" core of Berrios, Buxton and Sano...but it's a fragile one, unless Buxton can be an 825-875 OPS superstar and not just a great defender with Brian Anderson's hitting ability. They were 12 and 16 games behind the INDIANS on the two projection systems, but both teams are counting on repeats from Morrison and Yonder Alonso after fairly pedestrian career numbers. Odorrizi didn't cost them that much, but adding Arrieta definitely would. Plus, Santana's out the first 2 months at least, but they pretty much have to go for it, right?

Yay, I created a new nickname to counteract my getting voted down on LouieRob/LouieBob... MODS, can I please change from BENCH COACH listing (very boring!) to "Originator of BOSS BABY nickname"??? Thanks!

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 10:30 PM) Stop trying to make LouieRob happen. Its not going to happen. But seriously, I'm kind of surprised he's been playing RF because I thought he was a definite CF long term. I wonder if its just a spring training thing or if they wanted to switch him for good. If he has to go off center, then I am much more worried about his bat profiling anywhere else besides as a 4th OF. I'm part of that's about Robert, if they're both slated for W-S. Not sure if it matters, now that Adolfo will be out or DHing...it opens up more PT in RF/LF. As far as CF and spring training, the problem's at the big league level. You have Tilson, Leury, Cordell and Engel all fighting over the same spot/s...so they need to play there everyday in spring. Plus they're probably holding Rutherford back from playing too much in spring at a corner spot because he struggled so much last year. I'm assuming that Basabe will be starting in CF, wherever he's placed. I'm not an expert on Call, Fisher or Booker, but Basabe should definitely be given priority to play center, at least IMO. Now you can argue that Rutherford is a Top 100 prospect, and normally he would play CF as long as he could ... like a Kyle Tucker situation coming up with HOU, but it seems the consensus is that Rutherford couldn't handle that.

Just thought there should be some positives after we've already discounted Burger from playing 3rd, Collins from catching and Adolfo's injury. Oh, and now concerns about LouieRob hitting a breaking ball after 2 K's in 3 AB's. I'm joking, but not completely...as some of those are going to be real concerns, others just a minor blip that will be long forgotten. Actually, Basabe has pretty much the same amount of raw talent as Adolfo...particularly on the defensive (has looked awesome throwing) side of things. He's a true RFer. Of course, his power upside (especially projected homers) isn't that high, at least not yet, and he's really now flying under the radar because of all the struggles last season (and the huge influx of talent, Rutherford, etc.), but he has really been impressive the first few times I've watched him this year. (Yes, it's ONLY spring training, Ryan Sweeney, etc....and also trying to remember that utility infielder (3B) who hit like 6-7 homers in spring training at least 5 years ago that never turned out to be much of a factor during the regular season.)

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 02:51 PM) Is Langer pronouncing Basabe's name wrong? Or correctly? Bah-suh-bay Farmer was doing the same. Instead of Buh.saa.bay

So we’ve already eliminated Burger and Collins from their positions where they would have the most value at over two consecutive days, lol...next Rutherford will be a 4th outfielder.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 07:31 AM) I agree with this. And I still don’t know how one person is going to protect a whole school. Once he or she is taken out, it’s, over. Ban AR 15s. Sorry gun enthusiasts, you can still shoot your guns, just not these. These idiots ruined it for you. Deal with it. You deal with taking your shoes and belt off and getting groped when you fly. You deal with having to light up your cigarettes outside. You deal with being forced to wear a seat belt in a car, and wearing a helmet when riding a motorcycle. And you do so because they all make common sense. Just like taking these weapons away. https://lifehacker.com/what-are-the-assault...arco-1823227038 The Rubio solution...make this issue seem so complicated there’s no point even attempting it. Some points are valid, doesn't mean they couldn't do it. Fred Guttenberg, the father of one of the students murdered in the shooting, confronted Rubio for going against the proposed state ban on many semiautomatic guns and large capacity magazines. This ban included popular models like the Kalashnikov AK-47, Sig Sauer MCX, and several versions of the AR-15,the type of rifle used by Nikolas Cruz to kill 17 people last week. Here’s how Rubio responded: But I want to explain to you for a moment the problem with the law that they call the Assault Weapon’s Ban. And if you’ll give me — and indulge me for a minute to explain to you the problem. First you have to define what it is. If you look at the law and it’s definition, it basically bans 200 models of gun - - about 220 specific models of gun... But it makes - - but it - - but it - - it allows legal 2,000 other types of gun that are identical. Identical, in the way that they function and how fast they fire and the type of caliber that they fire and the way they perform. They’re indistinguishable from the ones that become illegal (later he says they could do the exact same thing as the gun used Marjory Stoneman Douglas). And the only thing that separates the two types - - the only thing that separates the two types is, if you put a plastic handle grip on one it becomes banned, if it doesn’t have a plastic handle it does not become banned...” This drew boos and jeers from the crowd, but he’s not exactly wrong. Basically, Rubio said that while the ban would affect several types of popular assault weapons right from the get-go, it would only be the tip of the iceberg. Why? Because of gun mods and how easy they are to be added or removed from a rifle, and because of the gun industry itself. Rubio goes on to explain that similar assault weapon bans essentially failed in both New York and California. For example, the California assault weapons ban required owners of designated assault weapons to either give up their guns or register them with the state. But there’s a third secret option that completely goes around these laws entirely: removing the features that make the rifle an “assault weapon.” These features include: 4 different categories related to pistol grips, vertical grips, flash suppressors and collapsible stocks...

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 11:42 PM) Instead of arming teachers, why not let the retired vets do the job? I bet they’d be way more than happy to each take a day per week protecting their community schools. Then we honor them and s*** and it’s all good. The NRA will fund this for every school in the country that requests assistance? They wouldn’t hesitate like the Broward County officers or SRO? Or wouldn’t the opposite be worse, shoot first and ask questions later? How would that not double as a military recruitment outreach strategy in poor schools?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 06:57 PM) Instead of congratulating these corporations for severing ties with the NRA, how about we call them out for being buddy buddy with them in the first place? Free speech, Citizens United, made huge profits for both sides... http://www.nytimes.com/1998/07/01/us/us-nu...8-trillion.html It’s like asking why we have spent $10-12 trillion on nuclear weapons and just a few hundreds of billions on climate change when the realistic threat of global warming to the entire planet is MUCH MUCH higher? People just don’t have the attention span to focus on an issue for longer than 7-10 days anymore, like Kelly/Porter or the dueling memos. Sutherland TX barely registered on the radar after LV. Only if something terrible happens that can’t be excused or rationalized away...even then, GOP Congress and NRA will double down doing the opposite until they’re voted out, corporations go bankrupt due to consumer boycotts.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 11:23 PM) If Hillary was 10 years younger I bet she'd try again. If Trump is the opponent, he's gonna be easily defeated cause of the fact he's despised by just about everybody. After running terrible campaigns in 2008 and 2016, toast. Plus, her husband is now right in the middle of the #metoo rape/harassment storm.

I meant if Mueller brings down Jared, Don Jr., etc. impeachment won’t happen unless the House flips in November, but nothing should surprise us by now.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 24, 2018 -> 08:13 PM) Delmonico should be the everyday LF, so Morrison is no impact there. Davidson is garbage and doesn’t deserve another opportunity. He couldn’t even hit International League pitching and put up an 83 wRC+ last year. The guys impacted are really Cordell, Tilson, Palka, etc. And it’s not like anyone has CF locked down at the moment, so Cordell & Tilson can still get plenty of at-bats there if warranted. To me, Morrison appears to be a potential undervalued asset that we could get dirt cheap. To me he’d be like the positional version of Miguel Gonzalez but with actual real upside. For something like $7M you could cut him quickly if he doesn’t replicate last season’s performance or if someone controllable is pushing for at-bats. What would Davidson have put up if you strip away his negative defense? Believing in Morrison is not too far removed from believing Avi is going to be a consistent 3.5-4.5 WAR RFer. 1.1 -0.8 -0.2 -0.5 1.4 -0.1 0.5 3.6 Has now hit age 30...the next Jose Bautista or Marwin Gonzalez or an anomaly like AVI...? Ranked 15th at his position, the definition of average, for 2018. That’s a 5 career WAR over 8 seasons, averaging 0.625. That’s not even worth $7 million to WAR adherents. I think we learned our lesson with Holland, but at least he covered innings to protect our pitching prospects who weren’t ready. All indicators point to Davidson/Yolmer getting one more season to establish their true values.
