(It now occurs to me that baseball owners had to love Shohei Ohtani signing a $700 million contract with the Dodgers, because even though the deferred payments knock down the net present value to $460 million, they can use the far larger figure for a bigger pity party.) But Reinsdorf's sentimentality extends only so far. Business is still business. So in 1983, claiming the old Comiskey Park was "disintegrating," and "if we didn't get a new ballpark we'd go broke," Reinsdorf again played hardball. Threatening to move the Sox to St. Petersburg, Florida, if Illinois legislators didn't fund a new stadium, he now explained, "a savvy negotiator creates leverage. People had to think we were going to leave Chicago." Those machinations angered St. Petersburg city administrator Rick Dodge. Realizing Reinsdorf was simultaneously negotiating with him and Illinois officials, he told his attorneys, "He was playing us off against each other. I'm not going to sit here and get chewed up like this." https://soxmachine.com/2024/02/jerry-reinsdorf-white-sox-relocation-threats

New City-Connects: Bulls / Sox collab

Different tones of red, maybe? Are the early 70's and 1983/batting practice jerseys Chicago Bulls' red? The 1959 jerseys have that outline of red, but it's also not quite the same. Seems like slightly different shades. -

Wow...amazing insights. Our three best pitching prospects will undoubtedly be held back until 2026, and THAT's finally when we can start realistically judging the potential outcomes of Rebuild 2: Electric Boogaloo. -
https://www.espn.com/mlb/attendance If it wasn't for the Orioles getting in the way of Milwaukee, the AL Central/NL Central would have a run of 8 out of 10 teams in a row near the bottom of attendance. Of course, the Cubs are 9th (still down, comparatively) and Cardinals are 14th (also down compared to past attendance numbers.) White Sox attendance only down 8.0% for their first 12 games (2025/2024 YoY) 215,992 vs. 198,640

A .723 OPS would have led the White Sox (of the players left by season's end), lol. Sure, it's a LOW LOW bar, and it was only 200+ at-bats, but I'm not sure that's more of an indictment of the talent level of the players brought into the Sox system or an indictment of the development side. Or probably 50/50. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/callal02.shtml Maybe the biggest success story, and that's not saying a whole helluva lot, in the overall scheme of things.

2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
https://www.mlb.com/news/tyler-glasnow-injured-list-shoulder-inflammation First Snell out...now Glasnow, how predictable was this? VERY!!! That leave the Dodgers with their two Japanese pitchers (not named Ohtani), Dustin May, Gonsolin, Sauer, Casparius (opener/reliever). Still waiting on Ohtani and Kershaw. https://www.mlb.com/dodgers/roster/depth-chart 7 starting pitchers on the IL right now, which doesn't even include Ohtani (who's already behind schedule to return in May) -
New City-Connects: Bulls / Sox collab

“One of the challenges we had coming out of having our first Southside City Connect jersey was how could you ever match it or top it,” White Sox Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer Brooks Boyer said. “One of the thoughts that was pushed right away was that no one has ever done a collaboration between a Major League Baseball team and an NBA team. In a market like Chicago with a history of both teams, how great would it be to be able to collaborate with our partners in the Bulls, along with Nike and Fanatics, to do something that is unique and very different.” Both the White Sox and Bulls have specific elements throughout the uniform. The black and red colorway pays tribute to both franchises, and the pinstripes on the jersey serve as visual lineage to the Bulls’ iconic years in the 90’s and the White Sox history. The most subtle detail in the uniform comes in the neckline area, which includes all nine championships that both franchises have won in their histories. All three White Sox World Championships (1906, 1917, and 2005) are in white, and all six Bulls Championships (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998) are in red. Also, only team with TWO game caps, lol (more sales/revenues, yay!!!) https://www.mlb.com/news/white-sox-release-bulls-inspired-city-connect-uniforms -
Couldn't work with Colas, can't fix Robert....so therefore can't be successful with Canario, lol? Seems like an associative theory or math thread, if A=B and B=C, then...other than occasional successes on the pitching front, they still haven't defined what their niche or wheelhouse even is, exactly. It's always these arguments where there's a handful of Romy Gonzalezes and Alex Calls out there, so maybe they simply drafted the wrong players, or couldn't develop the players they did draft or sign, so which is it, precisely?

He always "projecting" (if he stayed healthy, which never really happened) at something like a 2-2.5 fWAR middle infielder. Fine for a Top 5 draft pick, not really. That's where you need stars/franchise cornerstones, 5+ fWAR centerpieces. Fine for anyone outside of the Top 10 or beyond, sure.

Well, the Cubs did the exact same thing with Kimbrel...so nobody really benefited, because he was never a good fit as an 8th inning reliever with the Sox, and it led directly to doubling down on AJ Pollock (taking on the QO with Kimbrel but not Rodon) and then the terrible Benintendi extension. So if you follow the entire chain of events, it's pretty darned disastrous, overall.

For those who can't open those S-T articles... Shane Riordan, The Score's executive producer of the “Spiegel & Holmes” show, posted on X that he's no longer at the station. His dismissal, which happened Monday, wasn't related to a behavioral issue or anything he said on the air, the Sun-Times has learned. Neither Riordan nor The Score returned requests for comment.

I've never been an Andrew Vaughn fan, nor "added" his leadership WORP value to his substandard fWAR. I've only wished that he would have taken the same career team as Torkelson in DET, period, full stop. Why was Madrigal traded SO QUICKLY if he wasn't causing a major distraction/rift in the clubhouse? The White Sox have never bailed on a high first round pick so quickly under JR.

New City-Connects: Bulls / Sox collab

“They suck and I’m not talking about the standings,” added another, who could very well have been talking about the standings. The White Sox are 7-21, good for the worst record in the American League. And, it seems, one fan even saw the uniforms as an indictment on the entire White Sox' long, mostly boring history. “Stop making disconnected jerseys without the team’s colors,” they wrote. “Stop letting players wear equipment that is not the team’s colors. Stop trying to erase tradition and history.” On that note, a reminder that Jerry Reinsdorf owns both the Bulls and White Sox. “Really reminds me of how Jerry Reinsdorf has ruined two sports franchises, thanks,” said one fan. “A nice collaboration between the two biggest jokes of franchises in chicago 👌🏼,” said a commenter. https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/white-sox-news-chicago-bulls-themed-city-connect-uniforms-mixed-reviews -

Nick Madrigal was a big time Christian and his faith helped to tear the team apart...this might work with the Royals, when you have a majority of players sharing the same faith and even drafted for those reasons, but it doesn't work if that "leader" is the one voice in the wilderness and not backing it up with his play, either. Or nobody will listen if the guy's on the IL, let's put it that way.

They will wait until he's made his league's All-Star game and enjoyed the success of that in June before pushing him to Winston-Salem. That's the case with about 85-90% of high schoolers in their first full season of Low A ball.

I think I need to start a business buying directly from the New Era factories here and shipping individually to the US...still doubtful that's going to avoid the de minimus charges/customs fees, though. Every major shopping mall inChina now has MLB and New ERA outlets with hats and logo shoes being the two most popular items...75-80% worn by girls/young women who don't know the Red from the White Sox, just the logos and color schemes. -

White Sox ahead of 6 teams (see you Balt) and tied with another for RS/RA differential. Unfortunately this year just bad enough to lose a lot of pretty close/competitive games due to bullpen RISP and general lack of Xb pop. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2025/04/28/mlb-power-rankings-rockies-worst-record/83317549007/ MLB power rankings: Historically bad Rockies finally unseat the worst team ever

Much bigger target for infielders, us the reach advantage on arrant throws.

The worst team in baseball gave up on him...so he ended up with the second worst team. There have been hundreds and hundreds of previous Greg Joneses who didn't make it due to their hit tools not developing, unfortunately.
