Oh, misunderstood what he wrote....now I see he hasn't watched it yet. Kaya Scodelario is the female lead, she can't be any worse than the girl who played the "mage" in King Arthur. Guess I'll check it out Friday afternoon here in China.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 24, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) I found this sorta interesting: http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/...ch_active.shtml Forgot about Wainright. Unfortunately, seems like the wear and tear over so many seasons is catching up with him, as well as Molina. Kazmir was another guy who's easy to forget about, and how good Weaver used to be, despite the lack of a fastball much over 90 and now in the mid 80's (the White Sox almost always struggled with that damned guy.) White Sox have produced 2 of the top 24 in Sale and Gio Gonzalez. Colon and Shields pitched for the Sox.

There's no such idea as "wins don't matter." They don't matter as much as they used to, historically, but they will continue to as long as the average BBWAA voter for the HoF is averaging around 50-55 years old. Maybe the next generation of voters will slowly change their criteria, but it certainly won't be announced publicly. It's simply a matter of looking at WHIP, BAA, FIP, WAR and using all those together to paint a comprehensive picture of a pitcher across his career and also versus his peers. We also know from following the White Sox that pitchers like James Baldwin and Danny Wright had 10-15 win seasons when they pitched like garbage but had a ton of run support behind them, versus Jose Quintana's string of no decisions since 2012 when statistically he's looked like a Top 15-20 starter in the entire majors during that timeframe. And yet despite all the advanced statistics in the world, scouts and GM's will always take the guy who throws 95-98 and "looks like an intimidating" pitcher.

QUOTE (balfanman @ May 24, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) This is true of the left, not the right. I do not want to go political here, but I do not appreciate this comment in these forums. I don't post often, but I read these forums most everyday. Uninformed comments like this tick me off and have no place here. I come here for Sox discussion, not politics. Fine. But it's almost impossible to avoid, no matter where you go...starting with ESPN. There's no longer such a thing as a pure, objective writer who doesn't give some clue about his politics. The whole argument between Keith Law and Curt Schilling is a perfect example. And then that bleeds into other areas, like "off the field" perspectives and opinions impacting a potential HoF voter. Personally, I read just as many articles from the opposite side of the fence than ones that already confirm any pre-existing bias I might have. They're more interesting, and they challenge your way of thinking about a topic. But that's just me. I used to love to listen to Rush Limbaugh in the 1990's when the Clintons were in office, for example.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) Actually no pitchers at all who are early to mid career. I don't know which guys are eligible right now that might get in cause they are close to 300 wins, but yeah, I don't see anybody ever getting in counting guys early to mid career. Nobody cares about wins any more and that's all they used to care about regarding Hall starters. Closers' careers are short now, so the media won't vote them in for 4-5 dominant seasons alone. Mussina, Schilling and Clemens...

Here's the problem with statistics. Everyone can create their own, to make a point supporting their beliefs. In the hearing today, Mulvaney was asking for the Dems to quantify or prove that Meals On Wheels, for example...is effective. Do you measure it by lives saved? Well, how? If you're not receiving benefits from this program, how likely are you to starve to death or more likely, have a health-related problem attributable to malnutrition or poor diet? One of the Dem reps responded, well, how do you know that spending $64 billion or $640 billion more is going to "make the world safer," exactly how many nuclear submarines are "allocatively efficient" (versus dangerously low), carriers, F-35's, Stealth bombers, etc. His secondary point was that as much waste and fraud as exists in the entitlement programs (Mulvaney brought up 11,000 that were dead still getting checks, or that some states had rules that X number had to receive a certain benefit regardless of economic conditions)...the numbers are even more frightening in terms of waste in DOD. That they weren't even audit-ready and wouldn't be so until the fall. So how can you say that "pure competition/privatization" is always the solution (the argument for not subsidizing CPB, because Sesame Street is highly profitable...what he didn't mention was all the OTHER education programming that's part of PBS that parents rely upon)...well, if that's actually the case, they're going to have a heckuva time arguing privatizing or running DOD the way they have since the 1980's is leading to cost-efficient expenditures.

Another argument is guys like Schilling, Mussina and Clemens will start to look more attractive again. Can we "re-judge" them fairly, and then take out the political/off the field stuff for Schilling? Maybe not. Personally, I feel that Verlander and King Felix were the two best pitchers of their generation, with guys like Scherzer, Sabathia, Greinke, Hamels, and pretty much anyone else you want to mention a notch or two behind. The two closers who deserve consideration are undoubtedly K-Rod (longevity as much as effectiveness) and Kimbrel. Then you have Kershaw and Sale in the "next generation" of pitchers in the their late 20's/early 30's. Bumgarner might not be in the conversation were it not for his post-season success, but you have to at least consider him for that reason alone.

Sale three k's through 2. Just 20 pitches, 2.13 era. -
Price was throwing 95-96 in rehab start but got hit hard...only three ip, lots of pitches. Will have at least one more before activation.

Good test for Sale tonight against the Rangers... Front page of ESPN as he goes for 9 consecutive with at least ten k's to set record. -
Giolito's start wiped out by wet grounds...bah humbug.

Rangers have a tough decision on Darvish. Cole Hamels, too. Astros are running away from everyone. Same with the Royals on Duffy and Perez....if Gordon and Soler are going to be worthless forever. They already lost Yordano Ventura. Herrera's definitely going to be dealt as his stuff has degraded slightly from 2-3 years ago. You've also got Gray and Archer with increasing value compared to last year. Gerrit Cole. Etc. Rentals like Holland, Vargas and Hector Santiago (unless the Twins stay close to first). Twins could fall out of it and get a ton for Erwin Santana this season, for example. Giants can move Cueto...not looking good for a Q haul.

Now Sessions in same hot water as Flynn about not declaring Russian contacts on security clearance forms.

Amazing you can offer savings when you only cover young and healthy, offer fewer benefits...magic tricks!!! In areas that opt to make modest changes, premiums would be reduced by 20%, on average, but mainly because insurers would cover fewer benefits. And in the places that opt to jettison the Obamacare protections, premiums would vary widely based on a consumer's health status and the benefits provided in the policy. In a statement, House Speaker Paul Ryan was defiant that the CBO confirms the GOP's "mission" of lowering premiums and the deficit. "We are on a rescue mission to bring down the cost of coverage and make sure families have access to affordable care," Ryan said. "This CBO report again confirms that the American Health Care Act achieves our mission: lowering premiums and lowering the deficit. It is another positive step toward keeping our promise to repeal and replace Obamacare." http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/24/news/econo...-cbo/index.html Ryan is even more dangerous than Pence.

Yes, Gregster. The current House bill, without any bipartisan elements, is polling 22 points less popular than even Donald Trump. That's amazing. Senate doesn't want to give up their majority in two years (despite numerous Dems compared to Republican seats up for re-election in 2018.)

When's the last time a pitcher with a 4.9 era was acquired for a huge prospect package in the middle of the season? Not easy to use "sabes" to sell a move like that to your fanbase. Joking, but not 100% -

Leury Garcia, have yourself another good game. Sox continue to battle back on most occasions this season. Didn't really expect a double or homer there from Smith despite the two hits. Hoover struck out the side, and Frazier last inning. -

Percentage points separating 8-11 in draft order. Moving up. First pitch to Anderson wasn't a strike, set up that entire at-bat and led to Timmy barking at him. -

Otoh, the Cubs' Kool Ade these days is so powerful at least one moderating or "devil's advocate" position occasionally expressing skepticism might be appreciated. I mean...even most (let's just say many) folks on the right side of the fence politically know intuitively when their stories are over the top or feeding them misinformation, which is why they are seeking other mainstream sources of news in recent weeks. Reading through a lot of the Cardinals' blogs in recent weeks, you're talking the winningest franchise in baseball the past 12-15-20 years getting absolutely hammered by paid/professional writers.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 24, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) This is a very sensible response and I am somewhere in line with this. This is a crisis and it's shame you can't talk about it without being called names. Why do you suppose the Netherlands, France and Germany are all simultaneously going back to the center...politically? Does Donald Trump actually believe building a wall instead of investing in education and infrastructure will somehow lead to 3% GDP growth? That swamping hospitals with uninsured and people reacting to a health care crisis because they can't afford treatment instead of being proactive with their health will work long-term? We've spent double the money on infrastructure development in Iraq and Afganistan....roughly $400 billion since 9/11, than in Trump's proposed budget. We need roughly $1.5-2 trillion for all the repairs that are backlogged. Solution, make the states pay for everything!!! That will surely work well. Pass the problem on down the line to all those Republican governors. https://twitter.com/drugproblem/status/8671...n.7f33a83d.html Follow la bella vita @drugproblem People really made Kim Kardashian delete this tweet because they didn't like that she included a photo of herself. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) I'll take the L on this one but I still think people worry about ERA too much, I don't think GMs pay that much attention to it these days. In general for trade value I think a 7IP, 4ER, 9K, 0BB outing is better than a 7IP, 0ER, 2K, 3BB type of performance. Ummm, no. That's pitching without your best stuff and still gutting out a win. -
Berrios dealing again today against O's...

They absolutely have to keep Devers...and those names listed would pretty much gut their remaining system.
