  1. The funny thing is Greg described himself as a Republican before Obama. Trump has been nothing but a typical Republican in terms of his flip-flops and policy changes the last 2-3 weeks. Except for being softer on abortion than Pence (also, LGBTQ rights, due to Ivanka and Jared), there would be little or no difference between the two others than the tweets and SNL skits. (Well, they did make fun of Pence for never eating alone with another woman, so there's that.) If you like GOP orthodox policies, he's now your man. Of course, NOT why he was elected at all.
  2. The most intimidating DH in the league comes through with a 3 run blast... If not for Abreu, this would probably be close to a game. Of course, they wouldn't have left Montgomery in to start this inning, in all likelihood.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) Robin had an 0-41 in April, part of May 1990. He got hits before that. Yeah, it just seemed like he started off his career that way because of being the Golden Spikes winner, had that Ted Williams-esque hitting streak at Oklahoma State, whereas May will go down as a lesser version of Jerry Owens who wouldn't have been in the big leagues if not for the rebuild/tear down. Much more fun being a White Sox fan back then (with all the talent in the pipeline)...plus, there was the new stadium to look forward to (at that point).
  4. LOL at the idea that Trump and associates haven't been involved in character assassination in regards to all the women who have accused him in the last 20-30 years. Trump takes up so much air we don't even have any time to focus on Ailes or O'Reilly because the political situation is so charged (nationally and internationally) on a daily basis. In the end, all of these issues succeed in distracting and getting nearly everyone to focus on the unimportant TMZ element of politics...when's the last time since the health care vote that we've had a substantive political decision about actual policies? It's very rare.
  5. May actually got a hit? It would have put Ventura back in the news with some quotes if he got close to Robin's career start...
  6. How long can they keep trotting Abreu out at first?
  7. Not exactly the typical Buehrle kick save there... Holland at least keeping our "offense" in the game.
  8. May now 0 for 22. Never thought Leury Garcia would be the best solution to any personnel issue.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) He looked skinnier at the end of last year as well and he looks thinner then he has before so far this spring. I think it's helped get his bat through the zone a little quicker. Some guys can bulk up and not lose quickness through the zone but for Avi it always looked like he was a little too stiff in his trunk. Maybe he did less weightlifting and more band and flexibility training this offseason. There was a very interesting interview I heard with Robbie Cano about his new offseason training plan. His trainer ordered him not to touch a weight for two months and to only work on band and core flexibility work. He said he feels better now than he has in half a decade. Puig this year would be another example of bat speed returning at a much lighter weight.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:35 PM) Lol...really wish I would have bought in after the story broke. Would have been some easy money. So did thinking the stock market would collapse in the months after Trump emerged victorious...many sold or exited the market to safe haven investments like gold, CD's or bonds.
  11. If it's settled out or court, we will likely not find out. NDA, etc. I'll go with $3-5 million total between all three entities being sued so far. https://www.overlawyered.com/2006/09/the-bu...king-that-isnt/ Let's not forget the case of the UK burglar who fell through the skylight in the middle of breaking into a high school...fell through, sued the school and light manufacturer, and ended up with nearly $1 million in lifetime benefits.
  12. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) Well then, you could say that about pretty much everyone currently in office, starting with POTUS. All of this tweets through the years, what he has said, what he has been sued for, what he has been accused of...sure gives me a lot more insight into his character. Sorry for the tangent...but you can't play both sides of the coin. Surely she was literally bringing a tomahawk to scalp them, lol. This is remiscent of the GOP Congressman who made similar threats towards Hillary and the Dems about protecting his Second Amendment gun rights. But I guess the alt-right groups are filled with tons of fine and outstanding guys we'd all want our daughters to marry, like Richard Spencer, Milos and Pizza Gate dude.
  13. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) By 1998, Dick Morris was no longer involved with the Clinton administration, and the President had just faced a grand jury and was looking at an imminent impeachment. Historically speaking, the Democrats should have been shook in that midterm. In 2002, George Bush's shine was well receding - and he was prepping for a war in Iraq that was very divisive. The Dems just ran s***ty campaigns. The economy and stock market were flying high then. People vote their pocketbook. Federal budgets were actually being balanced on the backs of fair/er capital gains tax rates. Americans tend to stay with the party in power during wartime...rather than making dramatic changes midstream.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) Grudz answers to no one. See what happened between Backman and Alderson...for further reference on AAA coaches making independent personnel decisions.
  15. https://www.yahoo.com/news/alex-jones-infow...-152318154.html Is Alex Jones a "performance artist" or always unhinged/dangerous to his children? Interesting ramifications for Trump and Melania if they side with the mother.
  16. Well, it's hard to argue Q value has risen...because there are likely to be guys like Duffy, Vargas, Hector Santiago, Archer, Colon, Hellickson, etc., competing with him again in June/July. Heck, Derek Holland's top ten in WHIP, but let's see how he does against NYY tonight. A's could sell high on Graveman, etc. Seems like we might be headed to another suspenseful offseason. But we won't know that until mid-May at the earliest. Even a nice run of starts over a month didn't get Samardzija traded after a lousy start to the year, although circumstances were different back then. For now, let's hope he can avoid the AL Central unless it's the Indians.
  17. The average 9/11 family ended up with $3 million or so. If it was your father, I highly doubt you'd typify his injuries as "minor" when considering the fact half the world's population has now viewed the video...not to mention the public humiliation of his past medical board issues that he certainly never asked to be relitigated by the likes of TMZ. That's not even considering the racial profiling aspects of this and his age and the fact United precipitated the whole set of events by deboarding him once he was seated without justifiable cause as there was never an "overbooking" by paying customers. That crew showed up in the last thirty minutes before the flight took off, and they rushed into a decision to accommodate them without thinking through the chain of events they were about to set in motion. If a jury ever gets an opportunity to screw United (back), the amount rewarded will be pretty shocking. As far as supporting UAL by buying their stock, go for it. We are a profit-first oriented society, but there's an eventual consequence to consistently putting profits over people. It's inexorably leading to the erosion of our societal framework of universal mutual respect and treating others how we would like to be treated.
  18. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 07:06 AM) That includes the 1 run he gave up against them last weekend? I don't remember a game last season where he gave up 11 runs. Yeah, 14 ER against MN in 3 starts (17 ip) Detroit, 12 ip/10 ER KC 4/6 ER 33 IP/30 ER=8.18 ERA Cleveland 14/2 ER TB 6/2 20/4=1.80 Overall, 5.77 ERA last 9, 2-6 record
  19. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) George Bush in 2002. Bill Clinton in 1998. Post 9/11 and the Dems didn't yet have a clear way to go after GW Bush. Clinton/Morris tacked so far to the center that the Republicans didn't have a counter, plus Dole got obliterated...and the Gingrich Revolution of 1994 overreached big time.
  20. http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/news/...-trump/?ref=yfp Violent clashes at Berkeley weren't pro-Trump vs. anti-Trump, have been mischaracterized
  21. It's possible that Berkeley is at the center of this left wing "chaos/anarchy" group, but I'd have a hard time believing it's mostly university students who are the leaders or organizers. If any fingers are to be pointed, it's at university professors who believe it's their responsibility to advocate for political positions as part of their instruction, rather than attempting to be objective and presenting both sides of an argument for students to make their own well-informed decisions. You shouldn't try to control or manipulate their beliefs as an adult, no matter how well-educated.
  22. They already have Wade Davis rented for this ONE year...they're unlikely to hugely overpay for Robertson, especially after the Chapman deal last year.
  23. All of us should be okay with the rebuild, as long as they don't get impatient and screw it up by thinking guys like Avi Garcia and Matt Davidson are going to keep this up....or Shields and Holland, for example. And it's way too premature to expect this team to end up at .500. That said, Q/Anderson/Frazier/Cabrera/Abreu/Rodon haven't contributed much at all, and they were the heart of the team coming into the season. So that can cause you to be optimistic, if you want to get your hopes up. That and the fact that the Indians aren't running away with the division from the get go. I was SORT OF pissed they weren't PHing for May, that Kevan Smith was bunting...but then you can at least cheer for guys like Kahnle and Ynoa. Robin Ventura would have put in another reliever there instead of Nate Jones, and we would have lost in the bottom of the inning, I'm 90-95% sure of that. Avi and Davidson continue to be feel good stories. Saladino, until recently. We have Asche and Jacob May to kick around if we want to do that, although they're basically sacrificial lambs. Btw, now would be a good time to trade Melky Cabrera back to the Giants with their LF situation in disarray.
  24. Or he's simply terrible against the Twins (Sale went through similar stretches against them). 18 runs surrendered to them in his last three starts dating back to September 1st. 10 more runs in two starts against KC and DET. All of his other starts, he's been really good and typical Quintana...for example, against the Indians, who were clearly the best team in the division last year. Of course, that's only 4 good starts out of 9, whereas normally you expect 6/7 out of 9 (quality starts) when Q's taking the bump.
