  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) I guess now you aren't into the advanced metrics. But that OPS Parra is putting up in Colorado has to be worth the $8 million you wanted to pay him. Unfortunately I don't think anyone in baseball is ever going to read any of your realtime ideas and offer you the GM job. I doubt anyone would let you generally manage a lemonade stand. You've done an impressive job rallying more fans to this HoF manager and irreplaceable front office. At this rate, the White Sox won't even have any lemonade stands open the final two months. Ironically, you argued a lot more than most around here for Alex Gordon this offseason. Great call on that one.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 06:21 PM) Robertson never threw 96-98. In fact he is throwing as hard now as he ever has. Do you have 2012 and 2013 pitch fx data? His fb was higher velocity in early 2014.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) I feel bad kind of not realizing this situation before it affected me, but I am floored by how insufficient the US parental leave and maternity policies are. My wife last week found out that their company removed short-term disability from their benefits (they had laid off 20 or so employees in January that put them below the requirement in Chicago). So with 2 months to go, we find out we don't have 6 weeks pay we planned on. Which would be fine if we hadn't decided not to switch jobs earlier because it would have meant receiving only 6 weeks guaranteed job safety (and no income). I've been writing to congressman/senators but the Clinton plan on this really is something I'm hoping gets traction. But considering nobody bothers to cover any policy proposal of hers I'm guessing it gets nothing. Have you watched the latest Michael Moore documentary?
  4. Yes, because we never lied about our reasons for going to war in Iraq....and forced Colin Powell to lie to the UN.
  5. White Sox almost never send money to get better prospects....they traditionally do the opposite. As long as Hahn's GM, they also won't turn around and just dump Shields, especially when the state of starting pitching is so thin in the upper levels of the system. We already have plenty of RH relief candidates for the future and Mariners need Diaz to compete for wild card this season...would trade us prospects instead or no deal with them.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2016 -> 08:09 AM) Might want to check on Parra's offense again. You are making things up. Wrc+ of 63. Avi has a 69. 698 ops for Parra, 638 ops for Avisail Garcia.
  7. Put him in the bullpen. Half joking.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) To be fair, at this point if we ran the Baseball-Reference linker on your posts we'd multiply Soxtalk's traffic 10-fold So how can we talk about trading Robertson without speculating on who/m should replace him? He sucks! Trade him! Pitchforks and torches to the barricades.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) Holy s*** all they did was promote a guy. Someone suggested Engel in CF and May moving to a corner outfield spot at the major league level....
  10. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) Morneau and Gonzalez have played in the playoffs multiple seasons as well. Not to mention the Rays' other playoff appearances for Shields. Rollins, definitely. You'd have to think Navarro made it a few times....surely with TB. Albers, maybe. Frazier once or twice with the Reds.
  11. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 08:20 AM) "Do you guys know how many fans back in Chicago went to sleep last night thinking that the latest slump in this s*** show we call the 2016 season was over? Well, not a lot, but that's besides the point. We let those fans down again, guys. Again. Do you guys want to play baseball? Do you care about winning? I may look like I'm halfway to a coma most of the time, but I care. I occasionally wake up long enough to see this s***. And what I see makes me sick." *sits down with a huff* *points at Abreu and Robertson* "Did you know that soxtalk.com is going to remove you shlubs from the banner? Did you? Yeah, how does that make you feel? I wish I could get paid millions of dollars to do a s***ty job-" *snaps his head up when he hears snickers from the group* "Yeah, keep laughing, asshats. You're going to cost me my job." *points at Avi* "And what the f*** do you do here? What purpose do you serve?" *stands up and starts pacing* "You know, I might just call it quits. You guys depress the hell out of me. I'm going to go ask Hahn to trade me to the Cubs. I'll just go be their locker room custodian." *smiles dreamily* "Yeah, that sounds nice. Later losers.* *walks out of the locker room* Is this supposed to be Ventura or Chris Sale?
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) PABLO OZUNA JACK MCDOWELL ROBERTO HERNANDEZ PACO MARTIN Mature analysis...might make you eligible to apply for a job in the Sox front office.
  13. Avila and Jackson made the playoffs four consective seasons. Shields in 2008 and 2014...in the World Series. Robertson with the Yankees when he could throw 96-98. Cabrera with the Giants.
  14. Larry Himes. Personality clash. Not because he couldnt draft extremely well. Being a good/loyal team member is paramount. See Thibs, 2015.
  15. 11th place team in the AL. Behind tenth place Yanks by one game, a team currently contemplating their first concerted selloff in decades... No point to update anymore when they're sub .500 and buried in an even worse position strategically than 2015.
  16. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 10:45 PM) Fire Hahn, Kenny, Robin. Leave Renteria for now but let the new front office deal with him as necessary. He should get a tryout the last two months. They have to convince Ventura to resign.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 06:45 AM) names names names names Fine, in your opinion, should they trade or hold Robertson? Do you believe Jones can successfully post an 80-85% save conversion percentage? Do you trade Jones instead of Robertson? Do you trade neither, and why? Who are the three best equipped minor league pitchers for 7th-9th inning duties? Need any more, or will that keep you busy enough for now?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 05:26 AM) And for the next time anyone wants to say that its only Donald Trump who doesn't respect "sub-groups" and that it's totally not something their party would tolerate for decades, folks I give you Steve King (R-IA). This text is from the Washington Post but they won't let me insert a link, here's one with a video clip. Unfortunately, Iowa is legitimately in play for Trump right now...
  19. Plus it's now abundantly clear that two paragraphs of that speech were stolen from Michelle Obama's 2008 speech. At any rate, Ivanka will blow everyone out of the water Thursday. Tiffany, not so much.
  20. Ryan arguably was one of the best GMs in the 90s and first half 2000s until Bill Smith started to run things into the ground. Victim of Buxton disappointment...Sano and Berrios as well. Too much was expected of them, in hindsight.
  21. Even if Jones (ultimately) fails, which is worse case scenario that you didnt get more value trading him now, you can still throw Burdi, Danish, Hansen (maybe!), Stephens, Guerrero....Ynoa, Kahnle, etc., at the problem. Some will stick, it's simply a numbers (and talent) game. Maybe even Gonzalez or Fulmer.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 10:11 PM) No offense dude, but you're totally f***ing wrong here. The sweetheart lease deal is obviously valuable, but is not nearly as valuable as you're making it out to be. How much do you think other teams pay in rent per year? Based on my limited research, it sounds like $20M might be on the high end, making our lease under-market by $18M/year. Now consider our lease only lasts 13 more years, putting its undiscounted pre-tax value at $234M. I don't have access to Excel right now, but if you took the present value of the after-tax lease savings, the value is probably closer to $100M. Given that Reindsdorf only has a small stake in the team, his portion of the sweetheart lease deal likely makes up at most a percent or two of his billion dollar valuation. Are you including the highly favorable parking agreement for the Sox? As far as the poll, currently running about 80-85% sell, although how expansive the selling isn't possible to determine.
  23. They wont have Engel and May together on an "all in" 2017 roster....rebuilding move.
  24. Someone gets it...yay! $11 million closers are unnecessary luxuries on .500ish teams.
  25. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 03:15 AM) The last guy that shutout the Sox was around 110+. This one's on Robin. Way too many games lost by the bullpen. Why acquire an "elite" closer for a Top 3 salary in that category if you can't even trust him to close out a 3-0 lead against non-elite Mariners hitters in a pitcher's park?
