Which speech? The one this upcoming Thurs?
-
The whole Robin is the one that has to fight for us in that department...that he (Ventura) was essentially "selling out" by backing ownership/marketing over the concerns of players that were clearly expressed on multiple occasions before that day? Curious the spin is defending Sale more than backing Ventura/Hahn.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Again, my apologies. But also, WTF. Your life is fascinating. One of my best friends graduated from NU and Harvard Law, same class. Her two least favorite people from her entire time there, Hahn and Ted Cruz. Not going to go into specific stories, but she's always been a great judge of character. Impeccable would be the best adjective.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 03:13 PM) Pass. I wish some NL teams would get into the game here...but it doesn't appear that they will. Houston and Boston look like the possibilities. Those 2 teams have the GMs most willing to pay a haul (edge there to Boston, but Houston has certainly paid high prices for players recently). And they have position prospects. Prefer a position headliner to pitcher because, in the end, what do we want out of the pitching...another Sale or Q? Well, we have that bird in the hand. And I'd rather Sale/Q pitch for Houston...it will be a touch nauseating seeing either with Boston. Arenado has 3 years left after this year; same as Sale. You have to get some quantity if you're dealing Sale...ML ready prospects and some lower guys. Plus, the Frazier-Arenado upgrade is much less than the Sale-AAAA pitcher downgrade will be. Depends what you get back for Frazier....Arenado and Fulmer/prospect hopefully provides more upside, but you never know. Just that you absolutely can't win with this tepid offense on a consistent basis.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) If they are willing to send them here in a Josh Hamilton type deal, sure. If it means us taking less of a return on another deal, no way in hell. That's the move they trade Frazier and get Sandoval for practically nothing and can theoretically compete next year with Jones, Burdi, Kopech and Fulmer.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) You are the ultimate downer on this board and I think it's pretty clear at this point you don't like the White Sox. I understand not liking the Sox organization, but your constant underrating of Sox players and love fest towards other teams or players is laughable at best and old schtick at worst. Chris Sale is a HoF pitcher. The Sox aren't taking Pablo f***ing Sandoval back in a deal. I don't like Hahn for personal reasons that go all the way back to how he treated people at Harvard Law...but mostly because he has done a pretty lousy job. I don't think Ventura is the best manager for the future of this organization. I have never underrated Sale or Q. The Q package would include Robertson and return Moncada, Benitendi, Kopech, Eduardo Rodriguez and Rusney Castillo with huge cash susidy for remaining dollars on that deal.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) Quoted the wrong post. If the Red Sox say they need to include Castillo or Sandoval in a trade for Chris Sale, the Red Sox might as well pony up their Top 10 or just hang up. That was in addition to Moncada and Benitendi as one of the additional pieces, fwiw.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) So all they should do is concentrate on their job and not anything else. Actually, paying clubbies, IS PART OF THEIR JOB. How idiotic they want to make sure the money is going where they intend it to be going. What complete morons and idiots. How come you don't live by this credo? Let's just put Eaton in charge of the entire union if he's such a fighter for injustice...that way the White Sox can make up for JR's waning influence.
-
Was the perception that Shelby Miller would overly excite the AZ fanbase?
-
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) Is that even enough? Cubs just gave up a top 25 and top 75 prospect for .5 years of Chapman. If the Sox trade Sale now (3.5 years of control) as opposed to say a year from now (with 2.5 years), when he'd still yield a huge package (assuming he's healthy, etc.), are they really getting extra value? Seems like there might be some diminishing returns built in there. Too bad we can't trade a year of Sale to 3-4 different teams.... 2 months plus post-season plus hgher probability of keeping him in 2017 if he fits in well
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 25, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) They'll get Quintana and Robertson in a deal. Do they need Frazier as well? I can't remember how 3B is for them? Blockbuster involving Q, DRob, Frazier for Moncada+ Travis Shaw/Moncada/Sandoval
-
Why don't the Rangers, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Indians, Orioles or Astros care enough about this issue to protest? I guess we win the most politically active/protesting award for the AL this year.
-
Beane.... They will never in a million years give up Betts, Bradley, Jr., or Bogaerts in season. Perhaps they'll throw in Castillo and eat the majority of his salary...or Sandoval...leaving the Sox free to trade Frazier as well. Doubt they'd have much interest in Sandoval, though.
-
Candelario?
-
Right now, the legacy of this season is Drake LaRoche, Tim Anderson, Adam Eaton and Sales's performance as well as behavior. It would behoove Hahn to do something in the next week to give the fans a reason or two to feel positive heading into 2017, as it's unlikely to occur on the free agency market.
-
Nobody has ever complained it was unfair to pay Keppinger, Bonifacio, Rollins or Morneau, etc., those salaries. On the other hand, Alexei was underpaid quite clearly...until they corrected it. At any rate, it continues the emerging storyline the Sox are not focused due to peripheral/off the field issues, when getting back into the Wild Card race would have been the sole driver for a winning organization. All we seem to get these days are distractions, and not entirely positive ones.
-
It's not a salary dump situation 100%, but there will likely be disappointment in the return for Robertson unless he's packaged together with Quintana and there's no realistic way to separate out the trade return value. Hard to argue his value hasn't taken a decent-sized hit since the second week of May.

Had an interesting conversation with cousin in Dallas today. Says the most logical way to get Mexico to help pay for the border wall would be to tax the remittances through Western Union, Pay Pal, Xoom back to their home country at 25-33%. This would push some illegal immigrants back to Mexico and/or open up more job opportunities for American unemployed workers....creating an eventual higher salary for American workers over time because of lower demand from illegal immigrants for those jobs.
-
This is much worse than Melania's speech nonsense. Congrats in pissing off the entire progressive wing...with no accommodation to Sanders, Liz Warren, Tom Perez, etc.
-
Hope there is a Sanders revolt. He, Biden, the Obamas, her husband....will all overshadow her speech. Kaine might be the only one who can't...he would make a better Kiwanis or Rotary Club president.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 07:32 AM) Hopefully Nate Jones gets to come in with the game on the line again and blow it to Cabrera again Wasn't it Castellanos? He struck out Cabrera. Walked Victor intentionally...
-
They should have Thome, Buehrle or Konerko sit down and talk to him about professionalism...and being the face of the franchise to young kids everywhere. The responsibility that entails. Heck, the example he is setting for his own family, on a micro level. Can you imagine how embarrassing it would be if Little Leaguers somewhere copied that stunt or a high school or university team unhappy with their coach did the same thing?
-
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 06:41 AM) Exactly. This is what he said before, which struck me as a statement that contained a lot of hostility or hate as you said: Sale commenting after LaRoach matter: "This is a bigger issue than being told his son can't be around. It's a much deeper issue," Sale said, then referred directly to Williams: "We got bold-faced lied to by someone we're supposed to be able to trust." The White Sox should have traded Sale after that disrespectful comment and frankly, I don't care what motivated it. Can anyone even imagine a Yankee calling Cashman a bald faced liar and remaining on the team? No more special rules for special players. That is what caused the LaRoach problem in the first place. Would this have happened on a winning team...rather than one that's missed the playoffs for a longer stretch than only the Pads, Marlins and Mariners? Losing brings out frustration in even the best players over time.
-
Trading the number two lefty of his generation out of spite is how the White Sox end up in fourth or fifth place for another generation. Making Jose Quintana the centerpiece of the organization will ensure that we're even more irrelevant with the next generation of young fans in Chicago. Let's not forget it was Hahn who was dissed here on this occasion...can he keep his wits about him and make the perfect trade under these conditions? Does this happen with ANY manager...or is it simply a sign of a systemic lack of control that dates back to the last season of Ozzie at the helm (2011)? Did Don Cooper also help contribute to the creation of an environment where Sale feels he's so special he can get away with or basically be forgiven for anything because of his unique talent level?
-
Sale will probably be inserted as punishment after some scrub reliever gives up 2-3 in the top half an inning in extras and there are still 0-1 outs left to get.
