I don't think the Dems will need to have Joe Lieberman or Russ Feingold on the ticket at this point... They've pretty much alienated 75% of the country at this point. What's going to be amusing is watching every member of the Trump Family give speeches (Ivanka's will be the only worthwhile one, she's much more politically astute than her father, Eric's will be terrible) because they can't fill all the spots at the Republican Convention. I'm sure they'll have some really kooky ones like Gary Busey that might outdo the Eastwood talking to a chair routine. Even Ditka won't come within 100 miles of Cleveland to burnish his ego.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 07:11 AM) WRONG. That group in NYC are all Yankee or Met fans. New York teams always get the benefit of replay calls. I thought there was a rotating group of umpires involved...how can they be fans of any team? Boston +7 (losing) 2. KC +6 3. HOU/TOR/DET +5 1/2 GB 6. SEA +3 1 1/2 GB (assuming they hold 8-1 lead against BALT) 7. CHW +1 2 1/2 GB 8. NYY -1 3 1/2 GB Could have 8 teams within 4 games (assuming the NYC Review Crew doesn't screw over the Angels again, somehow)

Let's hope THIS Guerrero has a little bit of plate discipline. Probably not so easy for the Sox to teach. Nevertheless, if he's even 75% of the player Vladdy was, it's still a huge win.

People that pay $5-7 dollars per ticket will often also find a way to avoid the parking charge as well. They're usually not the ones spending lots on concession or souvenir items. Some do, as they feel the savings from parking and ticketing justify spending more in other areas, but numerous minor league teams have done studies and found that almost all free/discounted ticket nights lead to much lower than the averaging spending you'd seen on "full price" nights (even with 20% lower attendance). There's also an argument to be made that discounting tickets that heavily erodes the value of your higher or premium-priced tickets to an extent. And that it's much harder when the team's playing better or contending to get those $5-7 ticket buyers to get out of that "cheap" mentality and be willing again to pay $15-35 per ticket.

Red Sox busted for International signings violations
caulfield12 replied to GGajewski18's topic in The Diamond Club
MLB arranged a showcase workout for the five players this Tuesday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to assist them in finding new teams. Muzziotti hit .317 in the Dominican League and Guaimaro .253 with 12 extra-base hits. Both are years away from the majors but considered good prospects. The punishment was severe. Five Red Sox prospects were declared free agents Friday and the team is prohibited from signing any international amateur players until July 2, 2017. This is the first time MLB has taken players away from a team. http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2...cO6I/story.html Happened under Cherington's watch. Nobody within the organization has been fired/reassigned as of yet. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 11:28 PM) Why? That's the Republican thread? It's a Democratic problem (I mean it should be if not swept under the rug, I mean the tarmac). This meeting with Bill Clinton is one of the sleaziest things I've ever heard of. My gosh. Of course Republicans wish Trump would go away. I've yet to meet a real Trump supporter. Most kind of like his attitude of being non P.C., but it's not like he's turning the PC world around with his brashness. People are still getting in trouble for saying PC stuff all the time. Like nobody dared criticize that guy at the BET awards for hijacking the show ripping whites. “We’ve been floating this country on credit for centuries, yo, and we’re done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people out of sight and out of mind while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment like oil, black gold, ghettoizing and demeaning our creations, then stealing them, gentrifying our genius and then trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies like rinds of strange fruit. The thing is, though, just because we’re magic doesn’t mean we’re not real.” You disagree with what he said here? The language is a bit much, but it was meant to be hyperbolic and provocative. And it's not really "white people" per se as he's attacking the "establishment," which often is perceived by blacks to be comprised of predominantly white (and often Jewish) members. Notice he mentions "whiteness" and implies "blackness," not specifically a group of people but a social and cultural construct. I'm not so sure you want to be on the same side as Stacey Dash.

Bud Norris, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K's against COL for the Dodgers. Jeremy Hellickson shut down the Royals. Expiring contract. Available for a B prospect or two C's.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 10:25 PM) Red Sox win. Angels should have tied it on fan interference, but replay didn't overturn it. BS. I was about to guess the replay group in NYC had already gone home but that couldn't possibly be the case, as the Yankees are all still playing in SD. Watched the replay. Clear that ball wasn't out of the field of play. Hard as hell for a home team to evict fans for that one, because it was the second bounced and everyone probably assumed it was out of play already from the original bounce before it caromed in that direction at a totally different angle. Obviously, with Trout running....he scores easily. I can't imagine if David Ortiz hit that ball against the Yankees (trailing by 1 late) and it was, let's say, Bogaerts or Bradley, Jr., running that they would have been sent back to 3rd base with their team down by a run still. Just no way that happens. Never in a million years.

I was actually kind of shocked they were offering SOME $5 tickets for recent games...at least online. Thought $10 was the close to the absolute floor for most MLB tickets these days.

Wonder how many of the bullpen pitchers we've used this year will still be pitching in the majors in 2018? Robertson and Jones. That might be it. Duke, maybe. He'll be looking for a new contract then. -

Top 30 International Prospects; July 2nd 2016

It's funny the "low budget" A's are the ones who shelled out money (originally) for Cespedes, Michael Ynoa and now Lazarito. -

At least if Abreu isn't going to hit, it would be nice if he would learn how to stop committing to a stretch position before/setting up too early on throws. Is he really that unathletic that he can't make adjustments w/ bad throws? Feels like a recurring theme in the list of his defensive woes. Tonight, the way the offense is non-existent, it really doesn't matter. But lots of times, it does. Leads to bigger innings and more pitches thrown by the starters....which leads to using the bullpen more quickly than Ventura would like. -

QUOTE (soxfan85 @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 08:38 PM) Yep, "always" is correct. He has a mental problem. But, he would look nice in a Sox uniform next year Look being the key point. Have you seen his numbers the last couple of years? Austin Jackson might have him beat. Anderson exactly at .300 now. 2 K's, keeping up his roughly 1:3 pace in that department. -

$22 million/2 years for Gomez. If Hahn still has the job, that is. -
Even the Republicans, at this point, probably just want Trump to go away, the election to be over and the bleeding at the House/Senate level contained. Mexican planes attacking him? Really? At this point, I'm not even sure the John Birch Society would accept him for a membership.

Complete analysis (buy/sell?) of all teams as of today
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) Lol - I'd hardly classify as "complete analysis" three sentences essentially saying the Sox will buy or sell based on how they do in July. Okay, when I said "complete," I meant it looks at every team in baseball. So yes, I suppose I could have put it in rhe MLB Catch-All, and it could still be moved there, theoretically. But it also talked about the White Sox. So....? Or maybe the moderators should think about restarting the Trade Winds forum again. It's getting to be that time. Rodney was traded to the Marlins, and Bud Norris to the Dodgers, etc. -
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 05:39 PM) Weren't we like 7 games up on the Indians at one point? Crazy how far this team has fallen. 14 game winning streak is absurd. 6/7/8 games up on the Indians/Royals/Tigers on May 6th. So we've lost 15 games in the standings to them now since that time. Indians were one game under .500 that day.

Indians' longest winning streak in franchise history (tied with 1951 team, and another in the 1940's). Ryan Goins pitched the 18th and escaped from a bases loaded situation with a DP ball....threw 90. Barney gave up the homer on an 85-86 MPH "fastball." Bauer was supposed to start tomorrow's day game but pitched 5 shutout innings in relief so they'll have to find another starter to go against All-Star Estrada (probably will be the end of their winning streak). Joba Chamberlain, miraculously extricated himself from danger two innings in a row. Pillar made a gave-saving catch. Phillies blew two bases-loaded situations in the middle innings against Tomlin. Indians had numerous chances in extra innings. They used every single reliever except for closer Cody Allen, who wasn't available.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 07:06 AM) Sure. Anytime you feel you have a chance to list 10 random names why not jump on it right? Names are fun.....names....names....names....and more names. How are they random if they all played for Ga. Tech? I guess nobody here knows they are Fathom's favorite team, apparently. How about this? One of my best friends from graduate school is Director of Scouting for the Atlanta Hawks. What do you want to know about the free agency period?
