White Sox will not win until their players produce
caulfield12 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/6/16/1195...e-for-white-sox This article states JR (once again/recently) reaffirmed that he's not selling the team anytime soon... Expecting much out of Navarro or Avila was pretty dubious, at best. Everyone is very familiar with the struggles (recently) of NL players coming over to the Sox, highlighted by Dunn/LaRoche. Lawrie was basically a replacement level player for most of the last 2-3 seasons...started out pretty well (especially compared to Sanchez offensively), but he's not someone who you could really count on to be a 3 or even 2 WAR player. I'd say his results so far are about what was expected, more or less. Maybe a touch better than expected defensively. I'll agree with the premise that Rodon/Abreu are the two keys. And, on the other hand, nobody expected Anderson to have an 840 OPS and thrive (so far) in the leadoff role. Nobody expected the entire outfield defense to come unhinged at the seams when Austin Jackson (who's barely above replacement value) went out with his meniscus tear. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 11:43 AM) Me too. Pretty cool line about how Sonoma is a town of 10,000, and they have 4,000 come to watch on Opening Night. But there is part of me that habitually thinks when they face backlash that Sam and Ben are celebs and should get their way and realize that very few people listen to baseball prospectus podcasts. In some ways, they may be "celebs" in the minds who follow the saber world, but that means very little to their first manager and is a constant source of strife throughout. Between the two, one is more assertive and the other's more of a politician/conciliatory, and they never quite reach that point of time for an extended number of games where they're really running things. They're more like "political advisors," whose advice may or may not be taken. This book would have been a lot better were they from Day 1 put in the position of actually managing the team. As far as the minor minor league baseball part goes, it's really all about marketing/promotions and the connection that local team has with its community. I was expecting to have more insight into the "1%" world, since Sonoma is famous for it's vineyards and upper crust entrepreneurs, but we rarely have any interaction with any of the corporate partners.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) Yeah, not really the power swing that Alf had, but the swing technique and mechanics, plus the long levers. But A.L.F. is an extra-terrestrial being.

Or someone who believes that Garcia could actually put up higher than a 750ish OPS as a full-time DH...that would work, too.

The only way to not act on this attraction IMO is if both partners in the married couple believe in God and just simply won't allow themselves to go there. Greg, there are plenty of gay and straight couples that don't cheat and I'm sure they would tell you the reason has everything to do with respect for each other, trust/commitment, the belief in the institution of marriage, etc. If you want to attribute Biblical or higher powers to being the reason for couples having integrity/fidelity, that's great, but there are just as many Christian/Catholic couples who are held in high regard and go to church every Sunday and tithe who are cheating than non-Christians.

http://m.mlb.com/video/v819697383 Ventura with one of his funniest moments in a post-game interview...about how he's such a bad manager he didn't realize Sale was getting hit around there and was completely oblivious, being sarcastic...that really lightened the mood of the last couple of weeks.

Wite is having the same exact problem the Republican Party is having...defending the indefensible and/or trying to turn it around and make it where the Dems and Trump are somehow equally responsible for this toxic political climate. What would Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt or Ronald Reagan have to say about their fellow Republican? One would guess they wouldn't be too impressed.

Would think Gourriel/Gurriel will end up signing with the same team as his brother...probably the Yankees. -

With his bat-to-ball skills and ability to manage the strike zone, Fernandez is a potential high OBP threat in the major leagues, although his power is below-average. Speed isn’t part of Fernandez’s game, and his thickening lower half (listed at 5-foot-10, 185 pounds) has hampered his range at second base, where he’s at best an adequate defender. Fernandez also spent time at third base during the 2013-14 season, though his arm strength is better suited at second. -Ben Badler, Baseball America I don't know where our Cuban +23 year olds page went...? Jose Miguel Fernandez, 2B....agent comparing him to Ben Zobrist Lite, seems to be reminiscent of a Carlos Sanchez physically. Twins, Dodgers and Royals all expressing interest so far. -
Well, while we're playing at Cleveland, the Royals are hosting the Tigers... KC is 22-7 at home now after sweeping CLE. At any rate, it's very hard to jump over 3 teams in one weekend. The most likely is that the Sox gain 1 game on the Tigers IMO and end up in third place by the end of Sunday. And so far we've DFA'ed Danks, Latos and Rollins. KC just ate $15 million on Omar Infante. So we've wasted about $5 million more.

And an even better SS prospect behind Story coming...

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) Caulfield, raBBit's point is you created a thread about Avi Garcia and then only talk Puig in your comments. No one is ripping your Puig trade idea, but rather your inability to create a post that stays on topic from start to finish. What comment can I make when Jim Margalus already said everything there is to say about it? It stands by itself. If I started a separate Puig thread, then people would complain about that. So I integrated them. Or put it into the trade thread. Because Avi Garcia and that situation is specifically about RF. And Puig/Bruce/Braun all happen to be corner outfielders. Is it really so difficult to follow the logic that we need a legit corner outfielder (both offensively and defensively), Garcia traded and Cabrera at DH with Eaton/Jackson/Puig as the 3 starting outfielders? Especially when one of the reasons we've struggled so much was due to the defensive miscues all over the outfield after Austin Jackson went down? Shuck playing everyday is just a temporary band-aid, but at least it stopped the bleeding for now. But facing the Indians and the Red Sox on the road with Frazier still struggling and Eaton just coming out of it and Lawrie scuffling, we need more pop than Shuck/Garcia/Coats/catcher.

Haha. But he doesn't have a background having formerly played for the White Sox. He was a member of the enemy Piranhas and supposedly disliked everything about us. -
Biblical references can only be made when the Cubs win, lol...

Morneau's been taking some grounders/infield practice but still hasn't taken any live BP. -

White Sox win. Victor Martinez for once didn't beat them in a key moment. Robin Ventura keeps his job for one more week. Cleve/KC +5 Detroit 2 GB CHW 2 1/2 GB MLB-leading 11th victory for Chris Sale. At least kept them in the game today after that 3 spot. Battled back. -

Never a dull moment with Robertson. Second out would have been a double play if not for the wild pitch on the comebacker. Anderson with a great job of stopping that ball from getting through...but not sure if it matters. Almost better for the pitcher to look out there and not see a runner on 3rd base. -

Now, the real challenge. Facing a wounded (just got swept and gave up first, opposite of their opportunistic 4 game sweep over KC in Cleveland) Indians team on the road without Sale, and then Boston. 2-5 or 1-6 isn't going to get it done. Need to go 3-4 or 4-3 (being optimistic). -

Nice to see we have a young hitter who can actually hit a line drive on a 95 mph fastball. -

Bad luck for Anderson there...might have slightly deflected off Farmer's glove. Should be 6-3. -

Anderson sporting an 875 OPS right now. That'll work. Shuck's bat finally starting to come around with regular plate appearances. Once again, leading to the question of what Coats is doing on the roster when he can't get into any kind of offensive rhythm when Ventura doesn't trust him. -

Robertson will get JD Martinez, Upton and McCann. Not sure if Victor Martinez can PH or not in this one. -

First pitch to Cabrera was WAY outside for a strike call. Miggy just 2 for 12 against Nate Jones now in his career. Both outs on fly balls to RF (thankfully, no Avi out there to mess things up). -

5 outs to go. Doing Jones a favor not to let him walk you...swinging first pitch. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:33 PM) 3 for his last 31 with 2 walks and 11 strikeouts Since he came back up again? Or you're including earlier in the year? Because he was at least over .200 when I checked last night's box score.
