  1. Saw it tear apart the entire Iowa BB program (and fanbase) with Pierre Pierce and Steve Alford. It's a fair point of discussion. The White Sox brought in Wil Cordero, and we all know Albert Belle's history of incidents on and off the field when they brought him on board with one of the biggest contracts in baseball history at the time. I do think it's a fascinating morals/ethics/value argument about the willingness or tolerance for former PED's players...depending on whether they perform on the field or not. Nobody would support the White Sox any more if the Sox Charities program managed to get 3 of the players nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize but the team's record was 68-94. On the other side of that is the Christian idea of redemption/forgiveness, and many Americans love those stories where someone legitimately changes and redeems themselves...starting with Saul/Paul in the Bible. The question is what original crimes people are willing to forgive? Rape? Domestic violence? Child abuse (Adrian Peterson)? Pedophilia (Jared from Subway)? Gambling? DUI resulting in the death/s of another person (especially children)? Insider trading? Watching 50 Shades of Grey? Everyone has their own personal limits, where they draw the line. As others have pointed out, I think every president going back to Roosevelt cheated on their wives, with the exceptions of Carter and Bush, Sr. Dangerous to throw stones in glass houses, right? Now, we are in the mode of going back and judging past actions by the lens of today (Lincoln wasn't a great emancipator, he actually wanted to send the slaves to Liberia to avoid conflict...Woodrow Wilson was a racist...all former Confederate leaders tied to the KKK must be wiped out of history and even their military victories/strategies ignored). Where does it all end? Can we not use context anymore?
  2. http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/6/15/1194...-field-for-some And, since we seem bound and determined to add a Braun/Bruce type, we might as well go for the high reward/high risk Yasiel Puig...Trayce Thompson has earned a starting job in LA (even when Puig comes back off the DL), and they've also got Pederson, Kiki Hernandez, Van Slyke (just came back from DL), Ethier (DL, but will return) and just signed Will Venable, so they're pretty much set for Roberts. Puig doesn't have a place or role sitting on the bench, and will be a distraction for the new manager. Plus, he's actually been playing RF pretty well this season, his defensive metrics are fine.
  3. If anything, firing someone from their job would make them MORE likely to commit an attack. They can plan more independently, and fewer people will notice their mood/disposition, as clearly happened with not only his co-workers but also his wife. The problem is that you're relying on them to stop the attack, and not the FBI, because it's simply unrealistic to think the FBI has the ability to stop every single determined gun owner out there. Outlaw the guns? Well, they'll get them somewhere, on the black market or bring them into the US on a boat or whatever or through Mexico/Canada.
  4. Creative use of the word "encumbrance," at least.
  5. Realistically, you have the Red Sox, Orioles, Blue Jays, Indians, Rangers and Mariners that are clearly better than the White Sox, as of right now. Then you have the Yankees, Royals, Tigers, Astros and Angels that all have at least some pretense of being in it. Other than TB, the A's and the Twins, you're looking at least 8-9 teams who are going to have more trade resources (financial or farm system or both) to make moves at the deadline. It's not far removed from the situation last year at the end of July, when they decided to hold onto Shark but not make any major additions, either. That strategy won't work this year...either. It's also terribly difficult to imagine them even finishing 2nd in the AL Central when they can't even beat any of those three teams in head-to-head match-ups...at least up until this point about 40% of the way into the season.
  6. Fwiw, in the post-game last night, Ventura didn't seem concerned about his job security in the least...very matter of fact. Did say something sort of non-committal about MAYBE putting Shuck in there for Cabrera (or Garcia).
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 07:06 AM) No. The Sox thought Daniel Hudson was going to get hurt and traded him. The problem is, they could have traded him for something better (even though EJax was very good here). Erik Johnson had pretty much no value. If the White Sox were concerned about his mechanics and ready to trade him after just 3 starts...what's to say that other GM's wouldn't have identified the same issue/s (mechanics/injury risk) with him, or heard whispers around the batting cage that Cooper was frustrated and ready to cut bait, etc.? It's not like it's always a slam dunk that you can trade a top prospect for an established veteran major league pitcher with that kind of talent...Jackson had stretches of success in LA, TB and especially with the Tigers.
  8. That was kinda the point. Even journeymen/relievers can look successful, at least temporarily, in SD. The regret won't be with parting with Erik Johnson, but about the money remaining committed to Shields if he doesn't start turning things around here pretty quickly. That negative initial impression will be hard to shake for Sox fans...not unlike Dunn's 2011 season, or Melky last year, or Rios when we first claimed him. So it won't be what Johnson does, but more if Latos/Danks could have outperformed what Shields gave us, since we already had $15-20 million invested into them.
  9. Not really...because Erik Johnson doesn't have 1/2 of Daniel Hudson's talent. Clayton Richard and Eric Stults have looked serviceable as starters in SD. Look at Drew Pomeranz this year, compared to what he did in Colorado or Cleveland.
  10. Zimmermann made a damn good play on Eaton's bunt to catch Anderson between home and 3rd...think it shocked everyone, Tim included.
  11. So what consideration should be given when overzealous people constantly are wrong and suspect someone just because they're wearing a hijab/burka or skullcap on a plane? Even a professor doing a mathematics equation...he must have the "secret recipe" for bomb planted on the airplane, right? Logical conclusion. Free tickets on that airline for life? The false reporter has some type of consequence? What about those trying to police the bathrooms and they're constantly mistaking men for women and vice-versa...? It's not what the Founding Fathers would have ever wanted. It's not Christian...at least New Testament Christian. It's not what Jesus Would Do. Aren't the way we're going to treat Muslims the modern-day equivalent of the way that sinners/prostitutes/money changers/tax collectors were treated at the time of Christ? It's a tricky situation because we are a country of laws. If you're a teacher and you don't notice abuse and/or don't report it, you're responsible. If you make a false accusation, you're responsible (or should be). If you let students sleep in class even if they're working from 330 pm until 11:30 p.m. and barely have any food at home and lucky to have any attention from a single mother, you're also responsible and can be fired for negligence. All I'm saying is if we go down this road, it's not too far away from what the Nazis did to the Jews from 1933-1945. It's a path more similar than most of us would like to admit, with racism/prejudice/fear comingled in a brew of intolerance and xenophobia. http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/14/opinions/tru...rgen/index.html Greg, I want you to read this, and give a serious response that doesn't mention the name Hillary once...tell me why you believe the author and Obama are wrong and Trump is right on this issue.
  12. Witesoxfan is going off the deep-end these days... You just have to laugh. 23-10 followed by 9-23. To get to the exact same point (or a little below) where the consensus was for this team in terms of wins and losses, 82-86, with the average pretty close to 84ish.
  13. Ventura killed rally tonight by staying in the dugout...should have pulled Cabrera and Garcia from the game at some point and stuck Coats out there just to see what he could do. But of course we can't survive without Avi's offense.
  14. Manny Ramirez is still available. Or Julio Franco? Bainsey?
  15. Frazier was 8 for his last 69. (.116 average) I actually think he asked Robin for a day off to clear his head and just have a break from the grind...plus they get an off day Thursday, so maybe 2 days off in 3 will help. Maybe not, who knows.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 09:56 PM) Saladino 2 run dinger Off a pitcher with a 9 ERA who would have been DFA'ed already if the Tigers weren't trying to salvage his contract.
  17. Frank Thomas flare special to RF from Miggy there...or Joe Crede.
  18. Looks like more bad defense there from the White Sox. Missed tags two nights in a row. Gator-armed it. This team and organization continues to be a trainwreck. Run wouldn't have scored if Eaton would have held Kinsler to a double. 9-23 stretch now. Infield hit a generous call by the scorekeeper there. RBI.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) It bugs me that one of our better hitters, Saladino, is sitting most every day. He should be getting MLB at bats. Shuck bothers me. Amen, brother! Avi's days as a Sox should be Beckham-ed. Shuck blows. I hate to say it but he is another Teahen. Saladino had a big hit TONIGHT. And the homer in NYC. He's not one of our better hitters, though. You're being too selective with your sample size/memory. Unless you think 650 is a good OPS. MORE lackadaisical outfield defense again there....Austin Jackson going out and Avi having to play has completely screwed over the outfield. It's like a contagious disease has hit, the same one that struck the Sox in 2013 and 2014 in the outfield.
  20. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 09:21 PM) That looked like a gapper, s***. There are no gaps. Upton's practically playing on the warning track. Just had to run straight to his left for that one.
  21. DJ lighting into Ausmus for having Romine bunt against a LHP when he's a RHB with a 4 run lead in the 9th... Doesn't think it's the way baseball should be played...or at least used to be played. Obviously, the Tigers blew a huge lead last night but the feeling of this game is quite a bit different with the Sox not scoring for the last three innings instead of creeping closer and closer.
  22. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...itting/2016/ALL Was with the Yankees at Scranton-Wilkes Barre... Career 723 minor league OPS. 25 big league at-bats.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:52 PM) Which is funny, because I sure see the right wing labeled as radical... For their political, but not so much religious ideas. Not since the days of Buchanan/Robertson/Ralph Reed...Moral Majority, Falwell, etc. The likes of Huckabee, Santorum and a certain Texas senator have tried to take advantage of that niche, but it's shrinking and they don't behave as one solid/manageable bloc of voters anymore.
  24. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) KC just won, so at least the Sox lose no ground on 1st tonight. KC is 21-7 at home now. Face the Tigers after the Sox are done with them. Indians' announcers are pretty excited not to be facing Chris Sale this weekend.
